Is this done on a stage now? Wasn't it done on the sidewalk before?

How do I miss these things? I have never noticed the owl or the dancing Aurora and Prince statue. I have been so many times I thought I knew the park so well, maybe I have tunnel vision and always head to the same places and such? Well the next trip I am devoting to things like that.

I've always been into the details - it helped that my first real trip to WDW was at age 23 (with an interest in art and architecture) and I didn't get to DL as an adult until age 32 (after being fully entrenched in Disney at that point).

One way to do it is to have a visit where you do nothing but wander around and sit on benches and look at the scenery - I know I'm talking crazy, but force yourself to slow down and not do rides. Read the captions on the photos on the walls! When you go as often as we do, we get a lot of quiet time in the parks. When we went to WDW last year with the kids, I think we maybe did a total of 20 attractions in the whole week we were there....

We simply don't rush - and really can't sometimes, with diapers and the fact that my girls always have napped in the stroller. We've also taken it at a pace that we aren't concerned with baby swapping rides (although we've done it a few times lately since Z doesn't nap anymore and is old enough to ride things with Daddy while I sit). That is how my husband really has learned to love the place. He wasn't into it at all when we had our first date there, but once I starterd showing him the little things, he really grew to appreciate it fully.

I just wish that I had started photographing some of the little details during those periods. The folks on these threads gave me the little green bug of envy, so now I've decided it's time to catch up with them!

Joe......I like what you did with the Jack Sparrow shot. Looks a lot better than all the red you typically get in that section of the ride. Here's one of mine that's very similar to yours......

It almost looks like you took that photo from a parked car while driving down the street in one of the nice parts of town in New Orleans! It really has that "I'm driving down the street looking at houses to buy" feel! That's really impressive to do with a crowded place like that area of the park is!

Wow.

Danny and Joe what ISO were you shooting the Pirates shots at? They're nice pictures, BTW!

I don't know about Danny's, but mine is ISO6400. It seems like the D300 does okay at ISO6400 as long as the exposure is correct to begin with. I shot mine in RAW and did an auto WB to get the colors. I usually click the auto WB to see if it looks good - half the time it does - but sometimes I need to make adjustments.

BTW I like Danny's pic better. It's closer up which shows more detail on Captain Jack. I'm guessing he shot his with a 50mm lens?

Thanks! Yeah, all that's missing is the "For Sale" sign in the front lawn. ;) I shot this at 10mm so it does give a little bit different perspective.

ISO was 3200 at f/1.8 resulting in a 1/25 shutter speed. I also shot this RAW/Auto WB and adjusted the WB like Joe did afterwards. He's right about the characteristics of the D300's noise at high ISO levels. Any increase in exposure during PP will definitely increase the noise level. And, he's right again......I was using the nifty 50. ;)

Perlster, which shop was this? I love the Partners figure in the middle. Was it for sale? i know I have seen the bronze version for sale, but never this white one (is that ivory or something?).

It was a while ago, but my recollection is that it was outdoors - maybe you'd call it a permanent kiosk - in Downtown Disney. I assume that the reason all those items were displayed was because they were for sale.

The owl is over by Snow White's wishing well to just the right of the Castle (as you enter from the hub). If it wasn't for my kids having fun with the wishing well, I wouldn't have spent time taking pics in the area. And yes, you do just have to slow down and look - which is hard to do if you're touring the park commando style! (This advice is coming from a commando family! :goodvibes )

It almost sort of looked like a centerpiece for decoration among the other items - that is why I wasn't sure if it was for sale. I will have to wander around DTD and look for it. If I am not mistaken, I think there is some sort of crystal place in DTD. Maybe that is where Partners was, in a kiosk outside of the shop. Thanks!
