Disneyland...OMG!!!!!!!!!!

I find it so funny hearing people from the USA saying "going to the East Coast is a lot" hehe, I'm from Australia.
From my house I have to drive to Sydney which is 6 hours, then the flight to LA is 14 hours, factor in all the waiting at airports etc it's 24-30 hours before I even arrive at my hotel after leaving my house, but I love it!!

I guess when we are so far away we are just used to the long travel times and think nothing of them.

I totally feel you. Though your itinerary takes the cake! Coming from Hawaii, the flight to LA is a breeze. Flying to Orlando is painful, especially with little kids. Flying to Asia or Australia/NZ is easier. People in the mainland US are spoiled when it comes to travel times.

we regularly do LA - Orlando which adds another 6+ hours to the trip! We still get up the next morning and hit the parks running LOL

You must have more time available than our family does - and be gluttons for punishment! :P That's an awful lot of travel time which for our family would leave not a lot left for being at the destination. With all the activities going on at home it was hard to find 4 or 5 days free for a trip. So for us if we go to the East Coast that is 2 days of the trip burnt solely on traveling (one coming and one going). But if we go to West Coast we can fly down in a couple hours and be in the parks that morning!

It is funny because a lot of those same people think nothing of loading up the car and driving 20 hours to Orlando.

I live in CA and fly to WDW pretty often. I'm at MCO 8 hours after I leave home, and that's with a connecting flight. If would be 5 if I flew direct. It's really no big deal.

One of my favourite lines goes something like this:

"An Englishman thinks a hundred miles is a long way; and American thinks a hundred years is a long time."

And when you go to DLR you stay onsite? Is that why it's more expensive for you? Because there are certainly hotels along Harbor Blvd. that would be equivalent in price to the Moderates at WDW.

I don't currently have plans to visit WDW, but if I do I'll stay in a Deluxe again. Animal Kingdom Lodge is my favorite! I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside once and really enjoyed the boat ride to and from what's now called Disney Springs, especially at night.
We usually stay at Port Orleans or Animal Kingdom, just depends on time etc...We've stayed at GCH and the others and we also stay at the Marriott properties (love being a platinum member and getting perks!)...all depend on the time of year etc!

Ah, yes, staying at the GCH at DL vs. PO at WDW would definitely increase your costs! But such a beautiful hotel...

You picked a great time to go. We just got back from probably our last summer trip ever to Disneyland and I have zero complaints as well. I can officially say that trip felt so much more like our 2019 trips.

I have not seen the ride queues that way in so long. Haunted had lines inside the gate and rarely went outside near the fountain/train station. Indy had a little line just before you went up the long straight ramp. Never saw the pirates line extend past the main entrance.

We had leg room to watch the fireworks on main Street and people generally respected the distance between each other for unobstructed views of the castle.

Yes and no...very big, lots of walking and to me the rooms are not anything special. Being close was the main pull at the time.

Thanks! We did get hoppers, so very glad to hear you'd recommend it. Our kids are still little-- 5 and 2 (though youngest turns 3 during the trip)-- and we're still solidly in the mode of nap breaks etc. So, totally looking forward to staying at Grand Cal and popping into whichever park seems to be the thing to do after naps. We know which WDW equivalent rides will resonate with the kids, and I'm curious to see which of the unique-to-CA rides strike a chord. We grabbed Genie+ too, just for the added flexibility.

Well, you only live half way around the world!

We lived in Perth for a while. I feel your pain. Another 6-8 hour getting from the West Coast of Australia to somewhere else before being able to make the journey.

Haven't read all the responses on this thread but just chiming in to say welcome to the DLR side. DLR beats WDW any day! It's our preference by far. Although, we are heading back to WDW this year for the first time in a decade to see Tron. I'm am ready to be disappointed overall since we have been so spoiled by Disneyland.

Are you like 19 years old? Or on adderall or speed?
Haha lol nope I’m 43 and I think it’s just excitement honestly
Even my kids who are small are fine
I’ve been doing these trips for 20 years now and just love it

If it's been a decade there is lots of new exclusive stuff to impress you - Cosmic Rewind, Ratatouille, Slinky Dog Dash, Flight of Passage - I'm sure you won't hate it. 😉

I am glad you had a great trip! I leave tomorrow for my 8 day trip to DL at the GCH. WHy was Blue Bayou disappointing? I have ADR for BB. I always have stayed at the DLH - I love it there but with all the construction I decided to stay at GCH - my first time! Everyone tells me I will never go back to DLH after staying at GCH.
Have a great trip the resort is beautiful.

About Blue Bayou, we thought it was over priced with a limited menu. Also my Hurricane which had 2 different rums in it tasted like there wasn't a drop of booze. I ended up switching to beer. The experience was awesome though.

I'm skipping Cosmic rewind and FOP but looking forward to the other two. It's not a matter of being impressed. Disney Parks in any form impress me generally. Just not looking forward to the heat and sheer size of WDW. And that's coming from a native Texan. We're on something like day 35 of over 100 degree temps here.

I am on the East Coast..Long Island, NY I prefer Disneyland over WDW!! Would rather fly the extra 3 hours to CA..it os so worth it. I have been more times to DL than WDW.
Agree my wife and 2 kids had never flown cross country and wasn't looking forward to it, but they are now ready to do it again next summer they loved DL so much.
