Disneyland is attempting to ban some cameras

If paparazzi are a problem, Disney should deal with them, not everyone for a VERY VERY VERY VERY small minority of people. Celebrities aren't so special that they should affect my daily life, I could care less if they are there. Its up to Disney then to protect them, wihtout infringing on me, because if thats truly the reason than they are catering to those celebrities at a cost to EVERYONE else, and trust me, the non celebrities with nice cameras far outweigh the celebrities when it comes to park attendance.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you. We are all just speculating on Disney's reasons for suddenly enforcing this policy. You are right - there are very few celebs in comparison with regular guests at DLR...which is why I said paparazzi don't have the time or money to go and stake out DLR just waiting for a random and not very common celebrity sighting. They have other places to go where the famous folks will definitely be. It is either the average Joes in the park who are taking pictures of famous people and selling them, and hence, causing trouble for other people in the park as a result, OR these people are tipping off tabloids and sending the photographers running to the parks to catch said famous person in action, and hence, causing trouble for other people in the park. So it is a bad situation any way you look at it. Disney may not be able to just single out paparazzi if it is a few of the average Joes who are causing the problem, in which case, they are making everyone with nice cameras pay the price....IF this is the reason for it. It COULD just be an anti-terrorism precaution they are taking. Who knows? Maybe they have received bomb threats or other threats that we don't know about and they are being extra careful? We don't know. It could be anything. Just looking at all options!

I'm usually a pretty calm guy but you've managed to get my gumption up with all of these statements. And, while I certainly appreciate all of the compliments you have given me, I'm in disbelief as to why you don't understand why I'm offended by the things you have said thus far. And, the statement in bold above is outrageuos to say the least! I have a record of every sale from my account (very few) and for some strange reason, there's not a single DL picture that has ever sold. Since you have so many details, I would love to see a copy of the smugmug receipt/email along with the date and time it was purchased.

I meant to go back and buy one from you so that you would get some compensation... Anyways, I just did! Uh Oh! You are a "professional" disneyland photographer now! Sorry again, I really forgot that I didn't order it from you in the first place!!

I'm done explaining all of this but would just like to mention that I have all profit levels set to zero for my DL galleries. That's part of the flexibility I have with the account level I purchase every year. Even I have to pay smugmug when I order my own prints. I don't want financial credit for my DL images. I'm always flattered when someone simply requests one of my pictures for their personal use. And lastly, I really can't believe you just purchased that picture to try and prove some crazy point.

Let's please end this madness and show some respect to the OP and not continue OT.

as for the celebs. . . i have seen a couple and I have to tell you had they not had any disney peeps with them, they would have blended right in. . . now I do know there are a few CMs (however haven't heard recently from the one on jungle cruise) that would call into our local radio stations celeb hotline phone and would report who was there at Disney riding the jungle cruise. So i'm sure that doesn't help the celbs vs the pap peeps. when you are out and about in public there is always a chance you will end up on someones camera. . . I just hope I can bring my camera in, it is a point and shoot, but to a noncamera person looking at it, it could appear not to be a point and shoot. . I have awesome pics of the moon, seems we time the full moon and our disney trips pretty well and sitting on a bench in frontierland is a great place for moon pics!

now my suggestion would be pay attention to the screeners. .. some or more anal about it than others. . i find the males just glance and move you along. .. the older females. .. are anal. . . at least in my experience . . .

Well the one that I had printed a few months ago didn't have your fancy signature. So if you come famous one day... ohh collectors Item maybe! So even at $33 you make $0 profit? That sucks because I can print em at my photo lab for $9. Let me know if you are looking for a good lab.

Anyways... back on Topic....

Nowadays most paparazzi travel with video cameras as well! Should we ban those too?

I am wondering, and I could be way off here, but do you think that this new rule (or strict enforcement of an old one, whichever it is since no one can seem to find out) is in preparation for the soon-to-be madness of Miley Cyrus' birthday bash thingy? Besides Miley, won't there be a ton of famous people there? I am sure Disney will be wanting to keep the paparazzi at bay on that day, and so maybe are establishing their rules NOW so they have a legal leg to stand on when they don't let the photogs in then?

Or maybe I have watched WAY too many movies with conspiracy theories??

And Danny, it would be a crime if they didn't allow you to take your magical photos that you so GRACIOUSLY have allowed many of us to "kidnap" for our very own....FREE of charge, might I add.....You capture the park like no one else I know, and I truly hope you can continue to do so!

I have the best Idea for us DIS'ers cameras All cameras! Pad your camera in your bag with Sanitary Pads around it and throw a 5 or 6 Tampons on top of your camera!!! Let's see what the Men Security people say then!!! If they ask why, tell them a friend said it would pad your camera from bumps and knocks!!

This is just crazy. We go in a couple weeks and believe me I'm taking my camera. I mean I didn't spend all that money for nothing. I have a Nikon D80 with and extra 70-300 lense. I'll just hide the big lense in the bottom of my backpack. That lense will not be staying in the hotel room all alone.

Policy has always been there but the enforcement is now stepping up. I'm trying to find out if my 18-200mm would be allowed. Its a decent lens but definitely not "professional" quality.

Please let me know...I was considering renting that lense for the trip but if it's not allowed I"ll stick w/ my little 18-55 kit lens

I brought my D80 with attached 18-200mm vr lens on my last trip.Sep 18-21
I even told the security person that looked in my bag-
"it's just my big ol camera"
and she & the one the day before her let me right on through and told me to have a great time. Never a problem.

I did have it in this tho with the strap attached. So they didn't *see* the lens.

Ours has been pretty inflammatory as well but recently Britt Dietz was kind enough to inform us all about the situation. I dont think i should past is response without his permission but here is the basics. Yes, there is a ban. The rule is no lenses longer then 6 inches are allowed. Thats it. everything else is unchanged. This is due to the Paparazzi catching lindsey lohan and another recently. and with the miley cyrus even, their pretty sensitive about things. so basically up to about 200mm is fine. I am posting here in hopes to ease worries and tensions.

Well, IF this is true, then it makes sense as this is the typical standard operating procedure for most event type things such as NBA games and such.

I know when I go to my local NBA games they say "no lense over 6"".

So, if this is the case, it makes sense. HOWEVER, HOWEVER, HOWEVER, this is NOT what is said on the website, so it still leaves one to be open to question.
