Disneyland is attempting to ban some cameras

Tamron and I think Sigma too.

But I agree, they really have to make this public somewhere. At least put it on the website.

EDITED to ADD: I'm assuming 6 inches means full length when the lens is extended, right?

I say we all show up with SLR camers and massive white lenses (and other colours too for all you non Canon users) and watch them try and refuse entry to each one of us. Who knows, the probably would, but at least we're making a statement. We're not paparazzi, we're all part of the DISboards photography club.

Nah I'll just trot right by ya all! With my hp point and shot. I did mention it is a great camera

Oh no!!!! This means my Macro lens might be out (need to pull out the measuring tape!) I have a 100mm Macro lens that I obviously can not bug a single soul with but love to take to DLR. I know its odd but I have a lot of fun with the lens.

I take very unusual shots at the parks that most never know are in DLR like these

I hope that they continue to work with honest visitors to allow us our cameras otherwise I am so sneaking mine in!

I'm seriously considering purchasing a low end Sony SLR digital camera for our trip in Feb/09, as I find our current digital camera doesn't have a strong enough telephoto for my liking. Because of all the confusion about what cameras are being allowed and what are not, I have contacted DL, and have asked for clarification of their camera policies. There's no point for me spending hundreds of dollars on a better digital camera for the trip, only to find that when we go, that some over zealous security guard denies me access because of the camera I bought:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: . Will everyone know what type of response I get from them when they get back to me regarding this issue. Have a great day!!

Hopefully you get a better response than me.

I spent 2 hours on the phone being connected from A to B to C and then disconnected, and nobody had a clue about specifications of the rule.

On another board, one of the regulars had no problem bringing in his Nikon D80 into the park yesterday. He only had a 10-20mm lens attached to the body, but he had a 70-300mm in the camera bag as well.
I had my wide angle lens on as I went through the bag check and I had the other lenses in my bag. The security guy was looking for much larger lenses, so I was relieved to get the 70-300 lens in as it is 6 inches before extending to about 10.
I'll actually visit tomorrow (during the day, before Miley's Sweet 16) and see if I have any problems with my Canon XTi and 18-200mm. I figure they'll be really strict tomorrow because of the special event. I'll report back with results. *fingers crossed*

...I stopped counting after the 12th or 13th camera that I saw. The park was full of guests with lots of Nikons (a couple D40s, more D80s and even a D300), and Canons (plenty of the Rebel XT family and one 40D). I even spotted a Sony A300/350 and an Olympus E410/510.

However, the security personnel are definitely looking for and stopping anyone with long zoom lenses. As for your camera, they don't care if it's a point-and-shoot or a $2000 body. I was stopped for having a 70-300mm in my bag, but my 18-200mm was okay. I knew it was a risk having the 70-300mm lens, but I wanted to see the response at the security checks. All in the name of "testing" for fellow DISers. :)

So, all you dSLR photographers, don't worry about your camera not being allowed. However, plan appropriately when making your lens choices.

Ah, big sigh of relief! Our 18-200 on the D80 should be fine then... although DH agreed to throw in the quick start guide for good measure! ;)

Heh, its a camera. I bet you'd spot the difference instance in picture quality between that and any SLR instantly, let alone someone who does it as a hobby. Im not that into cameras but I can tell the difference between my higher end point and shoot canon (some focus, lens speed etc) and my gfs lower end nikon, which is still above most HPs.

I've been seriously looking at the Sony DSCH50, 9.1 mp camera. It has alot of features I like on it, and the 15X optical zoom is a bonus. I like the fact that is a Sony, and that my memory card from my old camera is compatable for it. I love my Sony Cybershot 6.0mp, but around 90% of the shots I take are with the telephoto lens, and have gotten rather frustrated with the lack of ZOOM in it:badpc: . It takes excellent MACRO pics, but need a camera that has a more powerful telephoto in it. I have checked around, and it seems to be the best camera in it's price range. BUT...since I won't be buying it till around Christmas, if anyone has any good reviews for a low end SLR digital camera around the $400.00 to 450.00USD or CDN let me know, and will look seriously into all that are recommended. I also like Canon, but have yet to see a camera that I would be interested in for what I'm looking for. Have a great day!!

Brought the Nikon D2x and the 80-200 2.8 which are unquestionably professional gear and had no issues. and the 80-200 is about 12" long,

Was staying on-property though so I think these rules are directed mainly at paperazzi. Security definitely looked at it but with DLR room key no problems bringing it in - they did ask whether I was a professional and I told them yes but I do wildlife photography and seascapes I did leave the 300 2.8 at home tho LOL!

I have a Sony a300 and will be taking my first trip to DL in 2 months. Does anyone think I'll have a problem getting in with it? I'll be staying at a good neighbor resort and don't want to have to walk back just to put up my camera.

I'm really thinking that they may decided to not enforce this rule any longer. On my last trip, a friend of ours, who is a professional photographer, brought one of his "professional camera" with a camera case full of lenses and other fun camera stuff. No one said a thing, even when he stopped every five feet to take pictures. Castmembers had to have noticed.

All in all, i would not worry about it.

I hate to say this, but the staff at the security check points are not exactly the brightest.

I have had issues with them before too, but for different reasons.
