Disneyland Hotel??

I know I am in the WDW area, but nobody in the DL area felt like helping me out.
So can someone over here?
:]

DH and I stayed there in Jan. '06 for 3 nights. We thought it was a great hotel - a little older, but the rooms were clean and spacious, and there are lots of special little Disney touches everywhere. The rooms had Mickey hands holding up the sconces in the bathroom and character wallpaper, armoire with a DL map on it, bedding and artwork on the walls with stylized pics of DL attractions, as well as a Tinkerbell pixie dust border that glowed in the dark. I posted pics of my room on the Resort Rooms thread here on this board.

There was also a lot of great history around the hotel - tons of memorabilia, pictures, etc. in the lobby and along the hallways of the main areas. The pool area was themed to Peter Pan, and was delightful. The grounds were nice and spacious, with lots of neat topiaries, gardens, waterfalls, etc. I really wish WDW had something quite as "Disney" as that was.

We went back and forth between staying there, offsite, or the GCH. Although I've heard the GCH is great, we really enjoyed the DLH, and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Thank you that was alot of help.
Now I am really looking forward to staying there and looking for he Disney touches. :]

We stayed in Oct. the rooms were comfortable and clean, loved the tinkerbell wall border... the pool was really nicely themed, but a bit chilly for me... our only complaint is that for an on-site hotel, it is one heck of a walk... with our 3 yo (at the time) it would take us 15 minutes to get to the gates and onto main street. And we were walking slowly. And because we would go back for naps, and then back to the park, I felt like we waited 1 hour a day just walking to and from the hotel. We are doing GCH in May just for the shorter walk!

We just stayed there about 3 weeks ago. I absolutely loved everything about it. Every staff member was wonderfully helpful and the room was quite large and comfortable. Housekeeping was very nice and did a good job. We also found the walk to the parks very easy and quick. It was so quick in fact, we usually skipped the monorail (also super-close) because it was just as fast or faster to walk.

My son (2.5) had a wonderful time and loved the pools. The Mickey statue outstide was a huge hit for him. He got so excited whenever we walked by it.

We were there in Feb for 4 nights. I hesitate to say anything because we were in a 2 bedroom suite and I know not everyone goes that route. I have not been in a standard or deluxe room, so I really can't help you there. But, our rooms were beautiful, plenty of room for the 6 of us, and I would absolutely love to stay there again!! You can see pics of our room in my trip report (link in my sig), and while you could tell the hotel is older, I think it is still well kept, the staff is wonderful, and the kids absolutely loved the pool.

The only thing I would have liked better is if the hotel were closer to the park like a few others said. It wasn't a terrible walk, but it's about the same as staying at one of the hotels across on harbor, if not a tad farther than a few of them. Not saying there's anything wrong with a little extra exercise, but well, it is a little rough when exhausted. :rotfl:

We LOVE the Disneyland Hotel!! Our favorite tower is the Sierra Tower (Called the Dreams tower now I think) This is the closest tower to DTD and has either views of the resort/ pool area or views of DTD so you can't go wrong. We also like the rooms with the daybed in them (they are slightly bigger). We always have these preferences noted on our reservations and while it is not a guarantee, we have never not gotten what we asked for.

The neverland pool is really fun and so is Goofy Kitchen for a nice CHaracter Bfst.

I was dying to stay here for our June trip but rates were higher than I normally pay with our AP so we will be on Harbor which is fine too but there really is something magical about the DL hotel for my family.

Hope you have a great trip!

Is there a tram or bus to the park from the Disneyland hotel or is walking the only way?

thanks

No tram or bus but the monorail stop is just outside the entrance to the hotel in DTD and that will take you right into the heart of tomorrowland in DL.

Downsides
1-- the noise, especially if your room overlooks the pool. The people at the lost bar can get loud into the early hours.

2-- the bedding. It's just cheap.

We stayed there in Nov in a standard room. It was a nice hotel, like others have said lots of Disney touches. We have also stayed at the GCH, and loved it there too. We are staying at the DLH again when we go for our Anniversary trip in April. Here are some pics from our Nov trip!

Looking to the right from our room.

Our family of 4 stayed in a 2 bedroom suite just last month. The staff was wonderful. Housekeeping did a great job. They always had our room tidied up by the time we came back to our room for afternoon naps.
We were in the Wonder tower on the third floor. We were overlooking the waterfalls. This was wonderful because the noise from the waterfalls really kept out all the regular hotel noises.

Usually I like to have a five piece master bath- with a seperate shower and tub. Our rooms just had the regular bathrooms with shower tub combos and only one sink in each bathroom instead of dual sinks. Knowing it is an older hotel going into it prepares you for that kind of thing.

We did the walk back and forth from the park to the hotel at least 4 times a day because of naps for DD and DS. I never thought the walk was that bad. The kids loved the koi ponds, the waterfalls, the swimming pool, and meeting Goofy in the lobby. These were highlights to our trip. Enjoy your stay!!

Just to reiterate, compared to WDW hotels, the memorabilia at DLH is so amazing. While its older than I think every single WDW hotel, it has a totally different feel, that I frankly prefer. The picture of RFK really struck me, and I'm not even American! I haven't seen that picture in a few years but I can still see it in my mind's eye.

Have fun at DLH, have a look at Grand California for fun too. I know its the more expensive one there, but for me DLH is THE disney hotel.

We have stayed there many times (and once at the Grand California), and keep going back! We always spring for the upper tower view rooms (either overlooking the Peter Pan pool or Downtown Disney/Resort view). We are so comfortable staying there--and find the beds and bedding to be really nice. We like it better than the GC just because it is bigger for us (we have 3 kids, and it can get pretty tight in a small hotel room like the ones at the GC), and we like the views and theme better.

Here is a good video that shows what the hotel grounds a room looks like:

That video is by a guy who use to be a professional news camera man, and he has some great disneyland videos with excellent filming.

Thank you for the link, I too am having trouble deciding where to stay. The Grand Californian looks a lot like Wilderness Lodge (to me) and I have stayed ther before and was not blown away. The Disneyland Hotel looks so classic Disney, I think we might stay there.
