Disneyland Hotel room requests? What's the best way to get the tower I want?

Okay so apparently the Adventure tower is the place to be because of the location and the views. I know that room layouts vary, but from what I've seen on TripAdvisor and Yelp, the Adventure tower has the biggest rooms and bathrooms.

Just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about, this room in the Adventure tower looks awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1AKgTm7HUw

But this one (Fantasy Tower) might literally trigger my claustrophobia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ5GlRLjz_Q. I don't know if it's the camera or what, but that room gives me anxiety.

SO! My main question is whether or not the Adventure tower is what I'll get if I pay for an "upper level resort view" room. Is the Fantasy tower in this category as well? Aside from requesting a tower when booking, when should I call to make a second request? And how early should I check in (on a Thursday in September) to try and grab one?

I know room requests aren't guaranteed, but I'd like to do what I can to try. I should just be happy to be anywhere in the hotel, but it's my first time staying at Disneyland and I want it to be everything I'm expecting.

Thank you!

we stayed in a non-view room in the Fantasy tower in March and I don;t remember it being weirdly small...

of course i looked back and can you believe i didn't take any pictures of the room!!???

What you saw in those videos was a standard room and a resort view. All resort views are in the Adventure Tower. Standard rooms face parking lots from the Fantasy and Frontier towers. If you book the upper level resort view, expect more to be ooking down at DTD and at the parks.

My husband and I stayed one night when they first finished the Adventure Tower - we booked a standard room and I requested the Adventure tower. At check-in they not only met my request, but ended up upgrading us to a pool view as well. :goodvibes

We stayed at the DLH last year during the construction phase, and I was able to negotiate for a better room. They first tried to place us in the only building that was under construction at the time. I said I'd rather not stay in a construction site, and could they possibly try for another building? Their next room option was in another tower, I'm not sure why but I declined and asked for something in the other tower (I don't recall which one, but it was the "middle" tower, facing the pool construction). The woman at the front desk was able to accommodate us without issue. The room was like the first one you posted, in the Adventure tower, though it was the opposite layout.

This year the demand for onsite rooms seems to be higher, evidenced by the fact that there haven't been any discounts offered to the general public. So I'm not sure how likely it is that you will be able to decline certain rooms and hope for an upgrade. Last year I knew we were there during an off time, and that we could likely pick and choose our room. This year I will ask for a certain room type at the Paradise Pier but 100% expect to be told no. For us, it is worthwhile to just be at PPH/onsite and the room type is just a possible bonus. You have to decide whether it is worthwhile to stay at DLH regardless of room type, and plan accordingly.

Ahh okay so I'll be good if I pay extra for "upper level resort view." That makes me happy. I was just thinking maybe the upper level of the Fantasy tower would be included in that room class because you can see DL and apparently the fireworks as well. And if they want to get really technical, the parking lot is part of the resort so they could put you in the Frontier tower if they wanted! LOL

To be honest, I don't care how high up I am. I'd actually prefer have that nice pretty view of the trees! But if I just book "resort/pool view" that could put me in any tower, and probably looking at the pool. I'm not big on pool views.

I've stayed in a standard room many times and have not gotten one as small as in the Frontier tower video (thank goodness!). Most of the rooms at DLH are 2 Q + daybed, but there are a few smaller and a few larger rooms. I was once given an even smaller room than in that video (1 double bed and no room for much furniture!) and declined it as it's not what I'd paid for. They didn't have any other standard rooms...so they upgraded us to a corner suite in the Adventure tower overlooking DTD!

I may be wrong, but I think the room sizes may depend on what type of room you purchase. The room in the Adventure Tower was a resort view room and the Fantasy Tower room was standard. I would think that the more you pay, the bigger your room would be.

I've stayed at the DLH on both of my more recent visits to DLR. The first time was before the remodel, and we stayed in what is now the Fantasy Tower. We had a standard room and I don't remember it being nearly as small as the one depicted in the video. We also stayed in the Fantasy Tower on our post-remodel visit, and we received a free pool view upgrade. Again, the room was much larger than in the video. The main difference between our post-remodel room and the one shown in the Adventure Tower is that ours had a chair with ottoman instead of a day bed and it didn't have double sinks. So I'm thinking that maybe the view and the room size are correlated, but again, I'm not sure. :confused3

I've always been granted my tower requests, but I've also always gone in the off-season so I can't really help you regarding the requests.

We stayed in upper level resort in frontier tower last year and had a room about the size of the first one (though we also had a desk/entry alcove which was great. We loved everything about it. We had a view of the pool and resort and could see fireworks from our room. I requested Adventure this time since it is closer and to see the hype. But, I just want a room the size of what we had. We'll see.

I read on here that the Frontier Tower had the biggest rooms and best views! Funny how everyone has a different opinion I guess. Look at the DLH super thread...that's where I read good things about the Frontier Tower. I called and requested it (we have a pool view already) and they said it shouldn't be a problem but can't guarantee it etc. We have adjoining rooms, too. Good luck!

MOST of the rooms--standard to premium--are the same size. Due to some odd configurations, like rooms at the end of the hall or making room for service elevators, there are a few rooms that vary from that. Most will have 2 queens and a daybed, regardless of room type or how much you pay. What you're paying extra for on the "better" rooms is the view.

The Frontier tower does have the nicest suites, with the best views if you get one on the end facing DTD, which is what I said on the DLH superthread.

As Dizme said, all rooms throughout the DLH are pretty much the same size, with a few exceptions, like the suites.

I have stayed in all three towers and my opinion, is that the frontier tower does seem to have more room in the rooms (standard rooms) from what we have stayed in.

Suites are different in that they are found throughout the resort, but only in the frontier tower do they balconys with is why I said I prefer the frontier tower when we rent a suite. :goodvibes

With the Frontier Tower: the front of the hotel faces North, these are the rooms with the Pool view, but if you get a room in the Frontier Tower that faces South you have a parking lot view.
So the Frontier Tower has some great views, and some of the worst (imho).

Oh Agreed, if you get the parking lot view. But even that is not a horriable view, it's not like you are looking at a brick wall or anything :lmao:

Other then that, in my opinion it is still the better tower of the three, but that is my opinion only.

I can say the end suites in the frontier tower do offer the balcony's, which again, since I have stayed in the other two tower's suites, are better in my opinion.

It is all what one prefer's, just like many would never stay anywhere but the GCH or PPH I will only stay at the DLH in the frontier tower if I can get it.:goodvibes

:thumbsup2 We also prefer the Frontier Tower anytime we book a suite, if we book single rooms we will request the Adventure Tower...the last five DLH visits have been in the Frontier :lovestruc

What tower is the concierge lounge in? Isn't that Adventure tower as well?

Yes the Concierge lounge is in the top of the Adventure Tower.

TIP: Concierge Level benefits can be added to any DLR rooms reservation regardelss of what room you stay in. Last I heard $100 per night per room.

When we stayed in Feb we requested a standard room and they gave us a disabled room in Frontier tower which was the size of the first room. This trip we paid MORE for our room because of it being summer and they put us in one the size of the 2nd and it was HORRIBLE. We backed up to the service elevator and besides the room being dinky we had to listen to the elevator all night long. By the time we realized it the hotel was completely booked so we couldn't move if we wanted to. However NEXT time I will try and request Adventure tower and if the room is bad I will ask for something better. I think they figure if you walk all the way over you will just keep it LOL

We are a family of 5 staying at the DLH for 6 nights this month. We haven't stayed there since we were a family of 4, so I'm a little worried about the room we get (more specifically the bathroom). We should be getting the daybed since we are 5 in the room, what I would really like is a double vanity and a separate room with a door for the toilet. We have a deluxe room reserved and I really don't care which tower we stay in, but does anyone know the best way to get the bathroom set up I want? I've stayed at the DLH 3 times before and all 3 times had different bathroom layouts. I know it sounds weird to be stressing over the bathroom, but with 3 DD's that take forever to get ready and my DH who spends his share of time in the bathroom it would work out so much better for us to get the double vanity and separate toilet area.

Thanks for all of the replies, but I'm still wondering about how I should go about requesting a tower! Do you think it even matters if I'm going after Labor Day? Anyways, I think I've heard that they "assign" rooms 5 days out, is this something that is accurate? Even if I request when booking, should I call on the 6th day to confirm again? And if that's true, is there no benefit to arriving earlier on check in day? I was planning on arriving around noon but I could push everything up if necessary.
