Disneyland Halts All New Magic Key Sales w/ Renewal Info to Come; Plus New CA Resident Ticket Offer

TicketsAtWork, and likely several other outlets, are offering the new tickets with discount. From my first read, the tickets look good:
  • No mention of "expiring 14 days of first use"
  • No mention of "not eligible for upgrade" -- but I had noted that before learning that all new Magic Key sales were suspended.

Have they mentioned that they are actually cancelling it? I didn't bite the bullet and purchase ours like I should have. 🤦 I am hoping this is related to the lawsuit and they will come back.

if they do come with new / different, bet the prices will be moderately higher. I have no inside info or anything but I wouldn't be suprised if a top teir pass goes for $2k+

Do they usually offer the SoCal pass in summer? I wonder if reservations for summer are not what they were expecting.

ETA: Just realized it is all CA, not just SoCal! Wow.

After all of their talk two years ago about offering a "completely different AP experience", and MK being basically the old AP experience under a new name, it makes me wonder if they might finally try whatever it was they were previously considering.

Honestly, since both Imagine and Enchant are blocked out for the summer starting this Friday and next Friday, it's not a bad time to take them off-sale.

Except for those of us who were looking at post summer trips. I'm hoping they can at least tell us either way if there will be a new one or now so we know if we need to buy tickets.

I already bought 3 day tickets for a visit in June. I wonder if I will be able to get a refund on the overage since I could now get these tickets.

Point taken. I feel like you're not a real Disney parks fan if you haven't had the "I can't believe I didn't buy the tickets before the price increase" moment at least once.

You're a little bit in a double-bind, too. If you're going around Halloween, the reservations for tickets for those days will open at the end of June (probably worth setting a reminder), so it'd be another gamble for your trip if they don't announce something in the next few weeks.

I'll let the board chime in - but if it were me, I'd probably just buy tickets right as your days come available (so you can secure the reservations for those days), then upgrade to the new AP on your last day if it exists. I'd rather have the trip guarantee than take a chance on a hypothetical AP discount.

That's pretty much where I'm at. I have 28 days to decide what to do. What it would also mean is that I won't be booking as many days in the park if we need to buy tickets. We were planning at least two trips over the next year which the MK would have paid for itself.

I would just be happy if DLR just came out and said "no more aps" or "new aps coming as of xx date". Just knowing that it was coming would be enough to put my mind at ease.

I think the way you do it is to try to return the original tickets and repurchase the new ticket deal. But you would lose your original reservations.

I hope this means they are going to finally do whatever it was they initially intended to do with a revamped AP program.

Way back before the magic keys came out, they said a lot about a brand new customizable experience and all the AP surveys seemed to indicate some kind of pass that you could “build yourself” based on paying more for more features.

Then for whatever reason all that appeared to be scrapped and they rushed out Magic keys which was basically the old APs but with reservations and fewer features.

I hope they have now had the time to figure out something new and better.

I love the sound of that! I'm guessing software and system changes to accommodate not just the booking but also the verification of "perks" you paid for in park would be a hurdle.

Ugh. This all gives me so much anxiety. Can we please go back to 2000 when the parks were not crowded except for holidays, you could roll up after work on a whim for dinner, and the pass only cost around $100??? Every time stupid news like this breaks it kills me a little more inside.

The announcement also said that current Keys would be 'allowed to renew'. But renew to what? The current program? Some new program? Unless they announce the new/revamped program in the next couple of months current MKs are going to be renewing a pig in a poke.
