I don’t remember there being Bobsleds in Space Mountain. I guess I ride the CA version too much! But the ride itself, the theme and story and visuals are completely different. Its indoors and out through a frozen mountain with a Yeti, instead of a dark ride through outer space. ;-)
Well, yeah, the theming is totally different, no question there, but if you strip away the effects and just rode the tracks you'd see the same basic engineering. MK Space Mountain does indeed use the same style of vehicle, 3 people in single file. They basically just attach "rockets" to the back and add other space details. They also changed the restraints to a T-bar instead of seatbelts back during the major refurb about ten years ago now.
This is one reason the Space at DL is so different. It came after the MK version, and not only did they not want to clone the Matterhorn, they needed to squeeze into a smaller footprint.
Sorry for going all Disney nerd there.
