Disneyland DVC DUO Studio “Garden View“. “I don’t think that word means what you think it means..”

Aww, after StarlitNight05 made that connection with the old Garden Rooms I love the name and I want to stay there (though I'll never be able to afford it lol)! I realize the name means nothing to younger people, but brings back great memories for me. When I would request the Garden Rooms, they would always caution they couldn't guarantee it, but it was never a problem because everyone else wanted to be in the towers lol. Those were the days - when it didn't cost a zillion times more to stay at the DLH than anywhere else (though my first trip, around 1958, my dad checked - unknown to us - every day what the "rack rate" was until he was able to snag a room for one night that we could afford, and of course the whole hotel was "garden rooms" at that time. We moved from our motel on Harbor for that one night. It was amazing.)

So, in my mind, we have a preferred view with a balcony or patio. It says “Access to Pool” not view of pool. If they are calling the concrete slab in the back with the bbqs, bordering the road, a “Garden” I’m not buying it
I agree about your view not being a garden at all. It could be described better on the website.( Love the Inigo Montoya reference in your titles btw.)

My first husband and I honeymooned at Disneyland in 1977 and stayed at the Grand Hotel, which is long gone now (the location was what is now the Pumbaa parking lot). It was pretty swanky at the time but cheaper than DLH, which was my dream place to stay. We were both 21 which seems so young to me now. But in 1988 (I was single again), I finally got to stay at the DLH with my 2 kids & my sister and her 2. We didn't stay in the Garden Rooms but nearby in these bungalow rooms. There was a Japanese garden and the rooms were white with white wood beams or something like that. I loved the old DLH when the grounds were so extensive--there was so much there, but most of it was converted to DTD. A lot of people don't realize that the monorail station never moved, they just cut it off from the DLH grounds and built DTD. The monorail used to take you right into the DLH.

I have never stayed there. But I did follow all of the posts and updates about it so I definitely knew that the "garden" rooms were that separate smaller building by the pool. But the honestly can't expect everyone booking a room there to have followed along with construction and media posts about it to know that the rooms are REALLY like. So yeah...I agree that the name is super misleading.

Those rooms are the completely opposite of what I would think of when hearing the name. And it's definitely not the type of room I would want to stay in at all. It those photos, it's like you're practically on the pool deck. YUCK.

So we booked a Disneyland Hotel DVC Tower Duo Studio “Garden View” room. Now we have had “Garden View” at a number of Disney Hotels and it has always been of quiet, grassy area or interior courtyard, like at the Grand Californian. Our “garden view” is a full on super noisy pool view room. ????? Why are they advertising a “Pool View” as a “Garden View”. We asked the DVC CM at the old Blue Sky Room, now DVC showroom, at DCA, and were told “Yeah, all Duo Studio “Garden View” rooms with a balcony are really “pool view” rooms. Why the deceptive advertising and not just call them “pool view”.
You are totally right about how misleading and dumb the name this room type is. And I don’t know if Disney has fixed it or not but they had the photos on the website for each of these villas rooms mixed up. But its so funny how people will just defend Disney no matter what and instead blame you because you didn’t go watch a you tube video first.

Is “Garden Room” the best name? Probably not…. but I don’t know what else was run by legal and shot down. I also agree that the pool area gets pretty noisy, even at night or in the early morning because of work being done.

However… it’s 2024…..there are plenty of free online resources available to check out a room category at a fairly new property before booking it or after it is booked. This is a time share which generally requires a fair amount of advanced planning as part of the booking.

There is literally a whole thread on this board with VDH room views.

As a general rule, I don’t see how it makes sense to do little to no research on something and then get upset when expectations are not met.

lol I’m not defending them I’m simply saying it isn’t a garden view room as OP claims
It never says it’s a garden view
It’s called a garden room as it’s seperate from the tower in the pool garden

Sure. Ok. Whatever you say. Lol

It's kind of a moot point whether it says Garden Room or Garden View Room, isn't it? The word "garden" is front and center in the room description, which is obviously misleading.

I think it's unfair to blame the OP for feeling misled. Sure, it's a good idea to check a room configuration via media posts and pictures to make sure it's what you want, but that doesn't change the fact that "Garden" is a complete misnomer. I'll bet there are plenty of guests who don't realize that the word doesn't refer to the view. Speaking of which, why IS it called a garden room?

If you are unhappy, what is the process of requesting a change of rooms with DVC?

Boggles my mind how many people defend Disney no matter what! There is no way any person would book a garden room and not expect it to look out at some kind of garden!!! A POOL is not a GARDEN!!! You should not even suggest that someone needs to look up video's on their hotel rooms. (A disney vacation takes more time to research already than it takes to enjoy!) They are given names, that should be enough. People have to figure out Lightning Lanes, Rides, shows, etc. A hotel room should be what it says it is!

What amazes me is how much people will complain/blame others for not doing any due diligence on their own.

Also, I just booked the Garden Duo for a night as part of an upcoming LA trip where I am flying in solo the day before the conference.

I’m looking forward to the tropical garden of palm trees outside of my room. 🤣

If someone recently dropped the reservation, thank you! 14 points a night!

Me over here with a reservation at WDW called...

Garden Room - Water View

Garden Room seems a pretty standard naming convention at WDW for rooms that are in a smaller building that it is separate from the 'main' hotel building. Could they be a little more clear? Possibly, but they do seem to be sticking with a naming convention.

This is good to know. It's not a convention I know about. Is this a Disney thing or a common hotel description?

No, this seems specific to WDW.

Both Boardwalk and Contemporary have Garden Rooms as a room type. The seem consistent on naming a reservation as Room Name - Room View.

You could end up with rooms like Garden Room - Garden/Woods View
