Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

202.5 yesterday. So...1.8 less than last week. 41 lbs total. I'll take it!!

I have to say I am still very very worried about falling off the wagon. Being so close to 200 feels good and bad at the same time. So scared of slipping and want to have a weight that starts with a 1 soooo bad!! I haven't weighed my current weight in 13 years.

I'm trying to stay focused...It is however getting harder and harder for me. I really need to switch things up. I've gotten bad about journaling and need to start again. I also need to plan out my food again and stick to it. Being very busy the past few weeks has not only made it harder to exercise, but harder to eat!! Sounds sillly, but if I go all day without eating and then try to eat what I should for dinner I end up waaaayy under calories and start to hold on to all the weight instead of lose it. I do much better when I plan it out and try to eat something small every few hours. My life has just been in the way lately.

I did find a great treadmill on Craigslist this week. My mission for this weekend is to read the manual and give it a try! It is a very nice heavy duty one with all the bells and whistles. I don't think it had been used much...I bought it from an older couple and it was dusty..lol. Retails for $1200 and we paid $375. So the money I won in the "biggest loser" work contest covered the treadmill and about half of the Disney Marathon entry fee. Which makes me happy!!!

I am wrapping up 2 classes this week and am thinking about taking a 2-month break from grad school. Hard decision because I am so close to the end that I want to just get it done, but balancing everything is really tough right now and it would be nice to have a break. We'll see.

So...I will try this week to start a routine with the treadmill to work on 5k prep, get back to journaling, and plan out my meals more so I can eat regularly. After I get my final papers written this week I hope to step things up and really kick in again.

Hope you all are well. I'll be back to catch up on the thread in a bit. Homework calls.....

Amy--

I just wrote up a lengthy reply to you with some awesome self help guidance and the computer ate it up. I guess it must not have been as great as I thought and was gobbled so I couldn't send it.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS! You are doing great! And good job on the weight loss this week.

Don't worry about that arbitrary 200 mark. You can SO DO THIS! Let's see if I can more concisely repeat of the regurgitated Oprah self help tips I have for you:

1) Write down that number you ultimately want to get to and post it on the wall to look at. Form a visual picture of yourself when you reach that weight with details of what you are wearing, what you're doing and how you feel. Maybe you're in a gorgeous cocktail dress looking so hot! Or on a beach in that slimming bathing suit jogging down the shoreline. Imagine whatever inspires you. And when you're tempted to grab that snack, go back to this image and remember why you are making sacrifices today in order to reach the ultimate reward in the future.

2) Write down what it is about the number 200 that has you anxious. What does this hurdle symbolize to you? Why are you afraid you can't get past it? Once you articulate for yourself what's behind this emotionally, it may be easier to understand what you need to overcome. Losing weight is more than just eating right and exercise, there are really emotional issues in there as well for most of us.

3) Make yourself a priority. Take the time to exercise, eat right and take care of yourself. Wake up early if you need to . Give yourself 60-90 minutes a day to work out, fix your meals, relax, focus on yourself. You can not do this long term without giving yourself this time and focus. And ultimately it will allow you to give more to others.

Here's a great little Oprah clip about making yourself a priority
http://www.oprah.com/media/20090116_sas_greene_priority

Feel free to throw virtual tomatoes at me. ;)

You can SO do this. You are SO capable. I can't believe how much you do: emergency room supervisor, grad school, mom -- if you put your mind to it there is nothing you can't do. And taking care of yourself is important! Make this a priority!

And for the QUOTE OF THE DAY
You must act as if it is impossible to fail.

No gym Thursday or Friday as I had to entertain 4 girls for a sleepover. I'll be going to the gym today and/or taking my dog for a long walk. She seems off and I don't know why. She's been sleeping a lot lately but I'm wondering if that all of us being on spring break has messed with her schedule.

Have fun at the gym and the walk!! :goodvibes

I got in my 6 mile run this morning, so it's rest for me until Monday.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYBODY!!

OK, I'm finally over here. My Dr said our chance of conception is greater if we lose a few pounds, so let's give it a try. Not sure if that is statistically true or if you are just more attractive, which leads to...

I was never big for my size, pretty much thin in HS & most of college (no ****s thin, so not the best experiences with body image then. But I was buff!) Then pretty average until my now DH & I started dating. We met ~5 years ago and I have gained 65 pounds since then. I've lost about 5 so far this year, but it's not making much of a difference in how my clothing fits.

Saw this post on the first page:
I'll reserve this spot to put links to any healthy recipes that anyone wants to post. That way they won't get "lost" in this thread as it grows.
And we just tried a new recipe about 3 months ago. I'm not on WW, but get their emails still. It's become one of my DH's favorites:
General Tsao's Chicken
WW POINTS® Value: 6
Servings: 4
Preparation Time: 20 min
Cooking Time: 10 min
Level of Difficulty: Moderate

You can enjoy this Asian classic once again by sauteing it, instead of deep-frying it. Serve it over rice to sop up every drop of the sauce.

Ingredients
• 3/4 cup canned chicken broth, reduced-sodium
• 1 1/2 Tbsp cornstarch
• 2 Tbsp sugar
• 2 Tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
• 1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
• 1/2 tsp ground ginger
• 2 tsp peanut oil
• 2 medium scallion(s), chopped
• 2 medium garlic clove(s), minced
• 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, or 1 dried chili pepper, minced
• 1 pound uncooked boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 2-inch pieces
• 2 cup cooked white rice, kept hot
Instructions
• In a medium bowl, whisk together broth, cornstarch, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar and ginger; set aside.
• Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add scallions, garlic and pepper and cook 2 minutes. Add chicken and cook until browned all over, about 5 minutes.
• Add reserved sauce and simmer until sauce thickens and chicken is cooked through, about 3 minutes.
• Serve chicken and sauce over rice. Yields about 1 cup of chicken and sauce and 1/2 cup of rice per serving.
Notes
• We renovated General Tsao's Chicken from 15 POINTS values to 6 POINTS values by:
o Cooking the chicken in a small amount of oil, instead of deep-frying it.
o Eliminating the egg that would have been used in batter-fried chicken.
o Using reduced-sodium chicken broth and soy sauce.

Hey Kerry! Welcome!!! This group is great, so supportive. :grouphug:
And thanks for posting that recipe. I'd forgotten about adding recipes to the front page, but I will add that one. :thumbsup2

Hey talk to Stacie(lee) she is the conception expert. Or at least she has in someway or another helped peeps get prego....

Good luck on the weight loss.

Thanks for that recipe. It looks so good! I'm going to have to try it.

And here's some baby dust for you!:wizard::wizard::wizard:
I remember those days for us...took us over a year with trials and tribulations. Sending lots of great wishes and I'm so curious to hear what Stacielee can do for you!

We're a good group here. I'm the relentless annoying one who will bug you to no end to GET IN YOUR EXERCISE!! Keeps me accountable and helps me to remember myself.

So are you joining us for the Disneyland 5K? :hyper:
Everybody's going (even though they don't all know it yet ;) )
Beth thinks she got out of it, but Amy and I are so still getting her there!

:woohoo:

Thank you I think I am having similiar issues right now. Sabotaging myself and all. I've lost 23 pounds, have seen 25 come and go several times the past few weeks, and would like to lose 10 more. I realized that 140 is less than I weighed in highschool after my weight gain after weighing 84 pounds anorexic. That whole experience was so awful for me- I don't know. Maybe I'm afraid I'll go that route again. When you have literally starved yourself, and then experienced that again simply trying to survive... I'm also not confident that I'll be able to maintain when I get to the point where I'm satisfied. That it will all be for naught. I think slow and steady is the key here for me. Disney in a year and 2 months will keep me steady I think :)

I am not joining the weigh in this week either...although I've been following my running program for 7 weeks now I have also been eating like a hog..oink, oink and I am promised myself to start writing down everything I eat and maybe even join WW online to give me some kind of structure and suggestions on what to eat because now I am a little out of control. BUT I am proud of myself...last night we went Easter shopping and I really, really want one of those Reeses eggs that they only have around Easter and I was going to buy one...well there was not any to be found at CVS and Borders was our next stop so instead of just substituting some other chocolaty calorie laden Easter candy I decided if I couldn't get the Reeses then I wouldn't waste my calories on anything else. Normally I would have had eaten anything and everything!

Vickey, that is great! Good victory!

I'm going to look online too, I think Self magazine and one other mag has a free online weight helper/thingy.

I got myself to the gym today and did 20 minutes of cardio (but only made it 1.7 miles on the elliptical) and my weight training. Then I came home and had 2 lunches and 2 desserts. :scared1: Well at least I exercised. :headache: I also did not get on the scale today. I don't have a good relationship with that contraption right now, as it never has anything positive to tell me. I'm breaking off our bad relationship for a few weeks. Though I don't recommend this approach to anyone, as it's immature and only can lead to bad things.

Tomorrow I have a 60 minute run. I must admit, it's a tad frustrating to be working out pretty consistently for two weeks to still be way behind where I was in February. It's scary how quickly I got out of shape. How do people maintain that kind of running and exercise over time? I don't yet know...

The runners I know just get high on it and will not quit. I also notice that on exercise days I'm so hungry. Trainer said to have a protein drink (forgot which one he thought was good) right after exercising to help that.

I have been busy and not at the computer until late so I didn't know about the Friday weigh in anyway. I am also hovering over the same darn two pounds. But with all the extra exercise, something's got to give.

202.5 yesterday. So...1.8 less than last week. 41 lbs total. I'll take it!!

Amy, this is so good. You're doing all the right things and your plan is solid. You're totally right, we tend to gain more by starving all day and then getting around to eating -- better to eat 6 small meals/snacks spaced throughout the day to keep blood sugar even. I hear you about those fears and it's good to just give voice to them, doncha feel it? You can do this, you are doing it! Congrats on the treadmill score!!!!

Thanks, Kerry, for the recipe. Cristabel, Beth, all, keep going!
:yay:
Me, I am grumpy that I was so busy today I didn't make it to the gym. And tomorrow my gym won't be open and we have plans of course. So Monday!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm going to try to make it to the 5K, but may need to see if I can afford the entry fee & a hotel the night before.

Does anyone have the link to the 5K info?

Ate too much junk today and only went to the gym twice this week.
Now that Easter is over there aren't any holidays until 4th of July so I'm home free for family get togethers with unhealthy food!
I want to remain strong and dedicated to my healthy eating plan and exercising 3-4X a week for at least a solid month!

Starting off right by going to the gym today (Monday).

Hi there! Did you get my PM reply? I found it so awesome regarding us both being from the same small area in CO! Good luck with the baby project! It took us 2 1/2 years to get pg with my daughter and I totally understand the frustrations that go along with that process. Sending lots of pixie dust your way!

The recipe looks yummy!

I'm going to look online too, I think Self magazine and one other mag has a free online weight helper/thingy.

Thanks! If you find the free online weight helper/thingy I'd be interested! I joined a site called SparkPeople but I haven't found it to be very user friendly...but maybe if I became familiar and spend more time on that site it might help? ;)

The runners I know just get high on it and will not quit. I also notice that on exercise days I'm so hungry. Trainer said to have a protein drink (forgot which one he thought was good) right after exercising to help that.

I want to get that runners high!!! I seem to be hungrier on running days too but I think for me it's more mind over body thinking well I ran today....don't think that is how it works!:)

We had such a busy weekend and I am really tired today! BUT I have to share with you all that yesterday was MM for DL resort guests but it was also my running day (Jen I didn't get the chance to run on Sat. so I had to run on Sunday regardless...!) so I opted out of going to DL early and went running instead...me choosing to run or exercise instead of going to DL is really amazing! DBF joined me after walking the kids to DL and I love :love:having him run with me because he is so motivating for me! He pushes me beyond what I do alone which is a good thing and I try not to whine too much! We actually ran 28 min. instead of the scheduled 25 min. and that is because he encouraged me to run just a little longer...this week is 3 days of 28 min. runs and now I know I can do it..what's 3 extra minutes when you've already run 25 min? :woohoo: It was fun running around the DLR area...we started by walking from the GC to the DLH and then started running arond the waterfalls at DLH then ran past PP hotel and around the outside of CA past the Convention Center then up the other side of CA through the ticket pavillion between DCA and DL and then through DD. It really was really nice to have new surroundings to look at.

I am off today and then start Week 8 tomorrow. I need to find something to do on my off days...something with weights but I really don't like just lifting weights, I need somethnig that includes weights but doesn't feel like I'm doing weights. Does that make sense??

Hope everyone has a great day!

Big props for running instead of doing magic hour!!!!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: And then did you walk around DL after that?

About the hunger thing, it really is real if you've exercised a lot.

Maybe you'd like working out with bands? There is also a vest you can get that has weights in the vest so when you walk you're getting more of a workout. What is it you don't like about the weights?

I'm off to the gym soon...

Sending some positive energy your way!:wizard:

Right now I'm at 140 and while part of me really wants to get to 128 (that's the number I've written for myself), I am not focusing on the scale. I think that being healthy is what's going to work long term: getting good exercise habits, eating right and staying in the Body Mass Index (BMI) range. I'm also trying to get rid of my belly fat, as that isn't supposed to be healthy for me. If I can get down to 128 with that, then great, but if my body wants to stay at 140 and I'm within the BMI index and I'm taking care of myself with exercise and good eating habits, well that's going to be a balance I can maintain over time and that is OK.

Are you exercising regularly, eating right and taking care of yourself? What is that weight that you want to get to? Where does that put you on the BMI index? What are your goals for yourself beyond weight?

Sounds like you're doing a great job and tackling this on an emotional as well as a physical level. The most important thing here is to be healthy - mentally and physically -- and to get to a place that you can maintain over time.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm going to try to make it to the 5K, but may need to see if I can afford the entry fee & a hotel the night before.

So glad you might be able to join us for the 5k. I posted some training plans awhile back (which I can repost if you are interested). Also, I don't know if it's still available, but I was able to get the Entertainment rate at Hojo for Labor Day weekend.

Good job with running at Disneyland! :worship::worship::worship:
You ROCK!!!

It's great that you have the support of your DBF! While my DH doesn't run with me, he does support me by helping to arrange our weekend schedules around long runs (which took 2 plus hours when I got close to the 1/2 marathon) and watching kids while I'm exercising on the weekends. It's not necessary to have this to exercise, but it sure does help. And it's also fun to have a little cheerleading section at home. :goodvibes

BTW...have you thought about the 1/2 marathon at DL this year? If you keep up the training schedule like you are, you might be able to do it! I was much less ambitious and took almost a year to train, but you're really progressing fast! :thumbsup2 If you don't want to do the 1/2, are you at least doing the 5K??

Oh, and for weights...do you have any classes nearby? I know I sometimes do a weight works class, which is great. Also, pilates is super strength training and great core exercise. Sometimes these classes can be really good to get you started and help with form and make it fun!

BETH: How is your exercise going?

CAPRI, WENDY, SARAH, TRACEY and other Divas: Where are you? :confused We miss you!!

As for me, I rested yesterday and ran 45 minutes today. While I made it almost 6 miles in 60 minutes on Saturday, today I was SLOW. I just couldn't make it even 3 miles. Oh well. I guess they call these "junk miles." I got it in.

Hi all. Just posting real quick so I'm not making a kitchen run. :sad2:
First week back on track. I mean for real. Not the half-arsed effort I did last week.

I brought my food journal back out of hibernating and wouldn't you know it, the last entry in there was March 13. Exactly one month ago today. Weird.

So far today, so good. But man, it's hard to get back into the groove of things.

Ooh, one month exactly? I'd say that's a sign, girl. I know it's hard at first, but you've done this before, your body will remember and help you out.

Go Beth!!!
:cheer2::cheer2:

I made it to the gym today (imagine me, actually bothered that the gym was closed a day!). Did 30 min on the cross trainer elliptical and this time I watched the distance. I was doing just under 15 min per mile, so I need to work up to the 5k speed. But I was closer than I thought I'd be.

Then I did my first (for a long time) real aerobics class. Well, it was a hi-low, but she worked us super hard for 30 minutes straight. Then we got to do some stretches for 30 min. Let's see how this feels tomorrow.

How's everyone else doing?
