Disneyland conversations?

I was reading Bengal BBQ's menu and have a question.

What is in the zulu sauce? What is good at this place?

We really like the meat skewers here, but they don't offer a whole lot else and the price adds up very quickly. It is wonderful for a quick snack!

The Zulu Sauce is a sweet sauce. I have to look around more for the recipe - I know I've seen it online before....

I have the Banyan Beef Skewer recipe for you...

1 cup Soy Sauce
1 1/2 cups Water
1 Tbsp. Ground Black Pepper
3 Tbsp. Sesame Seed Oil
1 tsp. Ground Red Pepper
1/2 tsp. Cayenne Pepper
1 Tbsp. Granulated Garlic
3 Tbsp. Cornstarch
18 one-ounce pieces Sirloin Beef Chunks
6 Bamboo Skewers

Directions

Combine all of the ingredients above and bring to a boil, adding cornstarch to thicken. Soak the bamboo skewers in water to avoid burning. Place 3 pieces of beef on each skewer and cook on the grill 3 minutes on each side or until desired doneness. Brush with sauce and serve.

The chicken skewers use this one.

Tonkatsu Sauce (Chicken Marinade)
Teriyaki Sauce 1 cup
Soy Sauce 1 cup
Red Wine Vinegar 1 tblsp.
Brown Sugar 1 cup
Sherry Cooking Wine 1/2 cup
Whole Bay Leaf 2 each
Ground Black Pepper 1 tblsp.
Fresh Ginger Root 3 tblsp.
Fresh Garlic 2 tblsp.

Mix ingredients and marinade chicken overnight in your refrigerator.

Tahitian Sauce (Chicken Dip)
Whole Cloves 4 each
Red Wine Vinegar 1 tblsp.
Catsup 1 cup
Crushed Pineapple 1/2 cup
Pineapple Juice 1/2 cup
Brown Sugar 1/2 cup
Soy Sauce 1/2 cup
Orange Juice Conc. 1/4 cup
Water 3 tblsp

Simmer cloves in vinegar for 5-10 minutes. Strain cloves and add other ingredients. Bring mixture to slow boil over medium heat.

Hey Nancy,

As you may remember...I'm going to Disneyland in early November. I booked the Grand Californian through my DVC points.

Now I need tickets. I tried AAA, but they don't sell tickets to Disneyland. At least they don't here in Omaha (welcome to the flatlands).

I was looking at the Southern California City Pass because I would like to see Universal and the San Diego Zoo.

Is there a good place to get a discount?

Thanks
Laura

My friend and I giggled when we saw it, as the first reaction was:
"I wonder if it's made with real Zulus." :rotfl2:

I'd consider it a sweet BBQ sauce, but it's been a while since I had it. I'd need to do more hands-on research. :cloud9:

Wish they had a Bengal BBQ at WDW. I'd even have a spot for it. They can use the Adventureland Verandah restaurant space.

So glad you posted up - I tried sending you a PM and it didn't go through. You may want to check your PM settings.

Did you try Dreams Unlimited (this website's travel agency) to see if they had any? they have a source for discount ones for WDW. Otherwise, www.getawaytoday.com is popular among the folks on the DL Board. You may want to do some lurking and posting over there, too. Very friendly folks.:thumbsup2

I think I fixed my PM setting. Sorry about that. Thanks for the information. I will try those two avenues for tickets.

Thanks for the help!

I am planning our first DL trip just before Labour Day to celebrate DD's 8th birthday. Now that the cruise is over the questions will be starting for me.
First up - DD has requested a character dinner for her birthday. We read some stuff over and thought Goofy's Kitchen would be good. I figured I could surprise her with a Birthday Bucket.
What are your thoughts on this? Other suggestions?

I am also interested if anyone can discuss allergies for late August/early September. I know Ragweed can be very nasty up this way at that time of year. Any ideas on what a pollen allergy will be facing down there?

Thanks!

Hello... I am really excited about coming out in September. I wish I could be there labor day weekend too... but unless I hit the lottery. LOL
We just bought some DVC points in California. That has us very excited.
I enjoy Disneyland. I can't wait to come out and do the parks... plus take a side trip to Pinks for a hot dog.

I have really bad allergies to- well everything! But August and September have always been fine for me in Disneyland, I haven't had any problems. I have also been in April which is a bad time for me (and I forgot my allergy medication!!!) and surprisingly I was fine....so maybe they are pumping something special into the air ;) Just make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and maybe one of those little spray fans!

Thanks. I usually seem to be free of allergies at WDW too...must be all the pixie dust in the air! :goodvibes

And if you use the spray sunscreen it cools enough that you keep on spraying to cool off - avoiding the sunburn at the sametime. (warning-this advice only works when you remember to spray all exposed skin.:upsidedow)

Shopping question:

---WDW has a couple of grocery delivery services and a drug store that delivers...so what kind of grocery delivery services are common in DL?

---Why are there no more yellow Mickey ponchos?

Okay, I need to think about more questions...:)

Okay, there are MANY grocery stores near DL. If you want delivery just contact Albertsons or Vons. . .regular grocery stores that offer delivery service in the area.

Nancy...

We are planning a trip to Disneyland for the summer of 2010. We visited for the first time in June 2008 and fell in love. A trip this summer just was not in the cards for us.

Anyway...this trip we plan to stay at the Disneyland Hotel and will probably plan 5 full days on site. Do you think 5 days is too much time to do the 2 parks? Do you think we will get bored? We only had 3 full days this past trip and it just didn't feel like enough. Just wondering if we should plan to do something other than Disney while there or if you think 5 days is just enough time?

Also you always hear that the DLR parks are busier on the weekends because the locals are in the parks. I'm tenatively planning to fly in on a Sunday, spend Monday-Friday in the park, and fly home on Saturday. Do you think that is the best planning for park days?

One last one, in '08 we flew in to LAX but I'm seriously considering the John Wayne Airport. What do you think?
Look forward to hearing back from you.

Okay I am a Los Angeles Native. I NEVER fly from or to LAX and for Disney it is only reasonable to fly to John Wayne (Orange County) or Ontario. I would live at DL if I could so no 4 days 5 days 10 days. . .is never enough. But of course we have to limit our vacations. You could do other stuff while there but why? Okay so I am jaded cause I am from the area. Okay for the person who asked about crab cakes . . .wrong coast sweetie. For the person who asked about dining. . .wrong coast again. This is all about the parks and rides baby. . .

:banana:Great to see so many more folks posting on this thread! Let's give it more momentum! Thanks for commenting Darcy - keep it going!

I do want to mention one thing - no matter how much nicer the other LA airports are, LAX has one thing over many of them for folks coming from other parts of the country - more flight options for less money. Unfortunately LAX is a central hub spot for more people's flights and it's going to come down to a personal call about finances and time frames vs better airport facility.

I do love Burbank's Bob Hope Airport, but as far as getting me to where I want to go, when I need to get there - it's LAX for most of it, unless I want a long connection or eastbound flights that stop leaving at 2:30pm.

Hey Donna!

It's not a Birthday Bucket anymore, but a Princess Jewelry Box or Pirate Treasure Chest. (You can buy the other "bucket stuff" separately through the venues, too.)

You can still get special request cakes, which are delivered to the restaurant or through room service. The Princess thing comes through room service, too.

Can't wait to meet you!!!!

The Princess Jewelry Box sounds perfect then...can we do that at Arial's Grotto too? We are still deciding on restaurants.

I am looking forward to meeting you too...and I have another question. I was reading in my UOG about the Enchanted Tiki Room at DL is also Under New Management. I had the idea (don't really know from where) that it was still the original out there.

Donna,

Ariel's will also do the Jewelry Box, as will all the sit downs and the bakeries.

and for your last one....

We are the "original" Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room - no new characters for us!!!! It is a slightly shortened version of the very original show from the World's Fair.

Also - don't forget that when you get into the Tiki Room holding pen (waiting area), it has it's own line for Dole whips! Get your Dole Whip once you walk into the pen and eat it inside the show! Only at DL!!!!!:yay:
