DisneyLAND bound!!

4pm Saturday sounds great! I just have to firm up the plan with the hubby though.

I started my official training on the Ocean City, MD boardwalk this past Monday. What a way to start, huh?!

Speaking of that area - Cam (since I know you live in DE), there were soooooo many car accidents (and resulting traffic) in Delaware on our way home today! It was pretty unbelievable. Must be all us crazy tourists!

I may be able to change our DL ressie to the DL Hotel. My charity has a group rate of $169 per night. I love the DL Hotel, and that rate is tempting. I'll have to see what the overall increase would be to change from the HoJos to DLH. This is supposed to be a cheap trip. I am going to eBaying my behind off this summer to pay for it! :teeth:

Tomorrow is my 4 mile long wog. I just hope this cold thing I picked up at OC doesn't get any worse...

Some more info on DL. For those not getting a rental car, you can use Super Shuttle for $10 for a semi-private (up to 8 passengers) van one way. And you can order groceries for your room online from albertsons.com and they will deliver to the hotel on the date/time you request for a flat fee of $9.95, no minimum order. I plan on getting a few snacks, water & diet coke for the room

Saturday at 4:00~ I'm there!!!!!

Thanks for the info on the shuttle and groceries. We are still up in the air about renting a car. We always do, no matter where we go. But in CA, we always mean to go outside DL and explore, but then we spend all our time there anyway. Of course, if we don't rent, I won't be able to get to the outlet store... :scratchin

I just checked the official DL website for park hours and discovered that the Haunted Mansion and Matterhorn will be closed when we are there in Sept :sad2: Darn, and double darn....DH and I were really looking forward to comparing the DL HM to the WDW version. At least there will be plenty of other stuff to see :woohoo:

HM and Matterhorn are going to be CLOSED??!!! Oh, rats!!

Yea, for a meeting time and place!! Thanks, Cam!
The Expo is at the Disneyland Hotel Convention Center. It says our packet will be mailed in late summer...ooooohhhhh, I'm getting excited!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: Is this late summer yet? Is it? Is it?? :rotfl: I was VERY nervous before the Minnie, but after completing that I am a little more confident that the training will see me through. Now, though, I have to think about the crowd that will be there. Minnie was great for me with the smaller number of participants.

Look what I found!!!

I am so bummed about the Matterhorn being down for refurb. Last time we were at DL, I was pregnant. DH got to go on it though!

As long as they don't close down my all-time favorite Indian Jones, I think I will survive.

ooohhhh! That medal is beautiful! I keep a brochure from WDW last January that has a picture of the castle medal taped to my dresser mirror. It is great motivation!! It is really getting exciting now, actually exciting doesn't begin to describe it....maybe..... practically vibrating with anticipation?? Definitely way beyond excited.....gonna have to come up with a new word!!

4.00 Saturday works for me too - I might not eat properly then as my poor jet lagged tummy's going to be in enough of a mess without confusing it by swapping meal times (although show me the way to some cheesecake/apple pie/trifle/something generally gooey and I'm happy) but that sounds a great plan. The worst thing is, I'm going to be 8 hours behind as I'm coming from London, Tim will be 3 hours behind (well actually 21 hours ahead but.....) as he's coming from here, so I'm going to be awake when he's asleep, and vice versa for about 3 days, which could be interesting.

Still, all that aside, definitely count me in - Tim's presence depends on baseball season - if the Anaheim Angels are playing, he'll be there instead (we don't get baseball here so I have to give him his freedom!!!), but the nice thing about DL is that I can walk from the CCI no problems. Hooray......

Trainingwise, did 50 minute run tonight, got 1.10 to do Wednesday so I'm getting there. Speak soon - Helen

I'm Wendy, a walker (well, technically, I run downhill!), and I'm new to the DISboards. I hope it's not too late for me to join your group. I'm from NC and headed to Disneyland for the half and 5K. (Hey, if I'm going that far, might as well go for broke, right?)

This weekend was a "short" 8-miler for me. It didn't seem short -- and I'm hoping having some virtual training companions will make the mileage more interesting -- especially since I'm training for an October marathon so I'm going to be getting into some serious mileage all too soon.

Like some of you, I'm also engaged in a marathon of a different type -- a weight loss marathon! I'd love to be in Onederland by Disneyland. It's going to take a concerted effort on my part.

Well, that's enough of an intro for now. I look forward to following your training (and reporting mine).

Wendy

Helen- wow, now that's some major jet lag :dance3:

Anne-OOHHH, I love that medal! I cant wait to get me one of those!! I sure hope we can get thru airport security on the way home with all that bling :rotfl2:

Pat- I knew about Matterhorn, but not HM. I really wanted to ride the Matterhorn. It seems really cool.

Krisiti-Indiana Jones sounds really neat, I can't wait to try it!

Anybody else have this song in their head "California here I come, right back where I started from......" It just poped in there this a.m. :rolleyes1

Just think 11 weeks from right now we will be tired, sore, and sporting our huge, honkin' castle medal :cool1: Anybody going to wear it to the park on Monday?

Wendy- :welcome: of course you can join! We love all DISer's  What marathon are you doing in Oct? Is DL your first 1/2? I run downhill too, its easier for me than walking. And I am definately in a weight loss marathon :rotfl2: Where are you staying? You are invited to come to our DIS meet at DTD, Napolini restaurant at 4:00 on Sat :thumbsup2

HECK YEAH!!!! :teeth:

Also, Indiana Jones is actually the same idea as Dinosaur at WDW, but 100 times better. You will love it! They so need to take away the Indiana Jones show at MGM and put in the ride in FL.

Hey... we were so picked out of the crowd on our honeymoon to be "in" the stunt show... It's a lot better show when the stunts are going on around you! ;) Also highly recommend getting picked out of the crowd to participate in the Lights Motors Action or whatever it is stunt show... We did it in Paris but I think they just added it to a Florida park as well right?

I'm probably flying in on the saturday and out on the sunday for the half (cant interrupt my training, can only take leave on weekends) so I probably won't even have time to visit the park...

Then again, I might buy a 1 day ticket JUST to see the fireworks... In my opinion, the "Dreams Come True" spectacular they've been doing for the 50th is far superior to Wishes at Disneyworld and worth the price of admission alone... If you're a Disneyland fanatic and will catch all the references anyway. ;)

If y'all are wearing yours on Monday then so will Susan and I!!!!! I wasn't sure what we'd do since it wasn't our 'home turf' :rotfl: I know at WDW I will wear it for then entire week this time around. In Jan we wore it on Sat and Sun, didn't on Mon and was bummed because everyone had theirs on. We were at WDW from Thurs to Thurs and everyone from Saturday night of the 1/2 thru when we left had them on and the CMs were wonderful with the Congrats. Never got a look that said 'you're still wearing that old thing' LMBO So wear it with pride and enjoy your days with it!!!!

As we are leaving right after we recover.. I'm wearing my medal on the plane and in Vegas!! :woohoo:

Helen Oh, I WISH there was some quick antidote to jetlag! Napolini's will have cheesecake, I'm sure! :teeth:

Oh, WOW!! We will definitely stay for that, then!
Matt There will be a group of WISHers with our lime green WISH shirts on, so make sure you at least stop by and say, "Hi!" before you join the fast group at the front!!

Wendy, :welcome: You are doing 8 miles already?? YIKES!! Crzy4Pooh/Lynnda will be doing the 5K, also. Please put DTD's Napolini's at 4 on Saturday on your schedule! ::yes::

Thanks so much! I'm doing the Hartford (CT) Marathon in October, the OBX (Outer Banks NC) marathon in November, and (hopefully) Kiawah Island (SC) in December. Last year, when I did the Goofy at WDW, I did a marathon a month from September until December to help me train. It worked pretty well. You'd think I was an athlete unless you saw me, then you'd realize I am actually the poster child for "anyone can do a marathon". I'm 50, at least 40 lbs overweight, and slow as molasses. I enjoy marathons, though -- they feel like such an accomplishment!

And, yes, everyone should wear their medal in the park the next day. At WDW, I wore mine and met tons of other marathoners in the park wearing theirs. Be proud, and celebrate your achievement!

I'm flying in on Thursday and flying out on Wednesday. I'm staying at Paradise Pier. My first (maybe only) trip to Disneyland (NC is a long way from CA) and I'm so incredibly excited.

Wendy

Wendy= wow what you have accomplished walking! All those marathons & the Goofy :cool1: I am so impressed & you are now my new hero  I have been trying to decide whether or not to do the 2007 full. You've given me more to think about. Until a year ago I was a fluffy couch potato. Now I'm not quite as fluffy (but could lose 50 more) and have done the 1/2 & the Minnie 15k. It's addictive isnt it. I would love to be able to say that in 1 year I did 2 1/2 marys, a full ,a 15k & a couple of 5k's.

This may be my only trip to DL too. I'm in AL & its much easier & cheaper to go to WDW. We have several other NC people here too.

Right back at ya, TiffJ -- That 50 lbs lost banner says a lot about your strength, perseverence, and determination. Congrats on your racing, too -- I'm sure you'll have many memorable finish lines in your future.

Off to the TM for me -- 3 hilly miles for me today, then off to enjoy friends, family, and fireworks. Happy 4th everyone!

DITTO! Wendy you are an inspiration!

I walked my first Half in WDW last January and am now registered for the Full!
When I am not super excited about it I am terrified! It is great to hear from someone who actually walked the Full. Of course I've learned on this board that one person's idea of slow (even as slow as molasses) is not even close to my idea of slow.

My goal for last Jan was to finish ahead of the sweepers, and finish with a chip time of less than 3:30. Well, I knew I was ahead of the sweepers so I didn't push myself, and I finished in 3:29:27. Cutting it a little close I know, but I didn't expect my niece and her new husband (in WDW on their honeymoon) to surprise me as we entered Epcot for that push to the finish. I still made my goal though (barely!!). My goal for the DL Half is to finish with a chip time of 3:20. And for the full....well a chip time of anything less than 7 hrs would be fabulous!! I am hoping to find a WISHer who likes the slow but sure method for the full as that is a long time to keep yourself going both physically and mentally if you are by yourself.

Looking forward to seeing all my WISH friends soon! :thumbsup2

I am sooooo with you there! I belong to a virtual training group called the Disney Deads -- and I tell the "slow" runners on that list that the only way I'll ever go that fast is on a golf cart!

You can definitely finish the full. I've done it more than once, and though at the 23rd mile I typically swear I'll never do it again, I'm always rushing to sign up again. Last year's Goofy was a more daunting challenge, but I was encouraged by many folks to attempt it and I'm so glad I did.

The only great wisdom I have to impart from all this is that I know now I should never have let not having the perfect body keep me from getting out there and trying new things -- and that's why I hopped on this board as soon as I found it. Here's a whole group of people who are living my life lesson! I need the inspiration! I especially need to get down to a healthier weight.
