Disneyland area hotel, and San Fransisco for the day...

Sounds great, SNA it is then! Sounds like a 6.45am flight from SNA would be doable leaving the hotel by 5.30am then, although I'd probably leave a bit earlier just in case. How much did that cab cost by the way?

Andre

Cab was $45 + tip so say a round $50.

6:45 flight - I'd make sure I was in the cab at 5am - just to be sure - better to have some wiggle room.

Thanks. Might book the 7:24am flight and give myself an extra half-hour in bed. :) That would still get me into SFO before 9am, so to the WDFM not very much after 10am I hope.

I just wanted to pop in with a vote for Paradise Pier. We just returned from a 3 night stay there (view room). Just as an FYI, I'm a DVC member at the Grand, so I've stayed in the villas there. I've stayed in the old Disneyland, but not the new (refurb'd rooms) yet. We really had an awesome stay there. The rooms seem bigger, and we were fortunate to have a view room, which made the stay so much nicer. The rooms at the Grand (and I'm sure Disneyland hotel) are gorgeous, definitely. But we had a very enjoyable stay and just wanted to let you know that in case you wanted a full Disney experience :). And if you didn't know, the hotel just underwent a semi-refurb, all new linens and carpets (even curtains). Anyway, have an awesome trip!

Thanks for all the tips. I just booked the 6:45am flight from SNA (John Wayne) airport which gets me into SFO at 8:18am, and coming back again at 8:35pm. That should give me the best part of 10 hours in SF itself.

I reckon I can be out of the hotel by 5am as a one-off (especially as I expect I'll still be a bit on UK time at that point).

Just worked out a cunning plan on the transport front...

On the day before my San Francisco trip I was thinking of maybe going to Burbank to visit the Studios, and that is also the day when I change hotels from the Disneyland to the Candy Cane Inn.

So I'm now thinking about hiring a car for that one day only, which would also help me in getting my luggage over to the new hotel, and I can drive over to Burbank rather than trying to use public transportation. Then I'd plan to drop the car off at SNA airport on the Wednesday morning ready for my early flight to SFO (and get a shuttle-bus back to the DL area and the Candy Cane in the evening). Having looked at the maps at satellite images, the drives to Burbank and to SNA airport both seem pretty straight-forward (just follow the freeway!).

I can do that for about $50 including gas, which is around what a cab would cost me anyway, and it'll give me a lot more flexibility on the Tuesday too. Does this sound like a good idea?

From what I've read, Alamo would seem to be my best choice for collecting from Disneyland and dropping back on-site at the airport - or is there a more convenient/better option? Want to avoid too much trekking about to collect/drop off the car. Leave hotel around 5am to get a 6.45am flight?
