Disneyfied! Two sisters return to WDW after 21 years. [micro mini update 11/30 p. 14]

Only up to page 5 but had to say OMG you were so close to us at the MK opening ceremony, on your video clips if you had just gone a little bit more left you would have seen us at the wall :rotfl:

All caught up and what a fun trip you and your sister are having already, I loved your video and the beds at the Dolpin do look lovely :goodvibes

Thank you! If only I had panned a bit to the left. That would have been really funny!

We had a wonderful trip. I tried to convince her that we should go back for another long weekend just before Christmas. Unfortunately she had to be all practical about silly things like money.

Just found your trip report and am all caught up! You have a great sense of humor!

You take fabulous photos!

Can't wait for more!:woohoo:

You are so sweet. Thank you! My job has sapped me of all creativity this week, but I'll get a new update posted soon. My photopass photos came yesterday. Oh my. Cheeseariffic!

This isn't a trip report update, but it is a post about my rather Disney day. Disney's celebration tour was here in Minneapolis today. When I got to work I saw there were Mickey balloons attached to various things outside our office. It was a nice way to start off the day.

At lunch I headed to Nicollet Mall (not Nicolette mall as Disney has it listed on their site) to see if I could find the Disney street team. As I got closer I saw lots of people carrying Mickey balloons. I nabbed a balloon for myself to carry back to my office. It was funny to walk around through the skyway with a Mickey balloon attached to my handbag. I got a lot of smiles.

As far as I could tell, Mickey was not in attendance. Each balloon has a gold "invitation" explaining the birthday promotion and giving a URL to go to in order to register for a sweepstakes to win a trip. There are kiosks attached to a couple of Disneyfied vehicles where you can do this on the spot. Each invite has a code to get a "free digital gift". I could not find a way to enter in my code. I think the field can only be found on the original registration form, and I had already signed up when the site went live a few days ago. I let my boyfriend try it and the site just told him the code was invalid. Bad show, Disney! Hopefully they'll get the kinks worked out with that. Still, it was a cute promotion, but not one I'd go out of my way to check out in person.

I left the Mickey balloon tied to my office chair. It's probably not the height of professionalism, but it makes me smile and I really need that right now.

A little bit of Disney in your home town.. gotta love it!

I have a BIL and SIL that live in downtown Minneapolis! We were just there this summer!

I enjoyed the Japan video too! Very fun. I hope to put together video from our trips in the past few years, but ya, well....that hasn't happened yet! :headache:

That totally stinks about the code not working. When I checked on Disney's site about where they would be in Mpls, it didn't even have a location listed. Glad they at least got that on there! :rotfl: I knew there would be no way I could attend, being that I live in the sticks (1 hour west of Mpls). Now, I'm glad I didn't try to make any effort to go. Cute if you run into it, but I agree-nothing I would go out of the way for.

I think it's FANTASTIC that you have a Mickey balloon tied to your chair! I think it says you have a personality and are fun!

I totally forgot about this! I would have headed down there today... oh yea... WHEN? I literally ran around driving my DD from one activity to another. Sounds like it was a great thing that I didn't make a special trip into town.

Great balloon shot!

It was fun. And now I have a bit of Disney in my cubicle at work. I tried to be a grown up and give it to my boss to give to his son, but he wouldn't take it.

Funny that you were just here this summer. I have a friend who moved to Indiana and is trying to talk me into roadtripping it to Indianapolis to visit her.

Thanks! You should edit those trips! It's weirdly addictive once you get going. At least, it is for me.

Great balloon shot!

Thanks! The closer up shot is from my BlackBerry. The best thing about that phone is its camera. I am not a fan otherwise.

I might have missed the big hullabaloo or something, but all I saw were the trucks/kiosks and folks with balloons. I definitely would not feel bad about missing it. That said, I saw photos from the toronto event on another Disney dork site. They had Mickey, Goofy and some chick from Camp Rock.

I’m sorry it’s been so long since I last updated. It’s been a busy couple of weeks at work and I just didn’t feel like I had enough spare brain cells to write coherently. I know I had to go back and remind myself where I was in the report, so if you need a refresher here are links back to the earlier chapters.

Magic Kingdom – Part IV

After we left our dear friends Geppetto & Pinocchio, we walked back down Main Street to head to Adventureland. I don’t know how anyone can listen to the catchy Main Street music without wanting to dance. We didn’t want to be obnoxious, but we snuck in a little of that criss-crossing hands on knees dance move that should be familiar to any fan of musicals. It was a little disappointing that our fellow guests weren’t holding up their end of the performance. Oh well.

We realized we didn’t have any photos yet of ourselves with Cinderella castle in the background and stopped for a Photopass picture. The photographer really wanted us to ham it up, so my sister and I gave him our best Disneyfied (I love that Word wants to change this word to dignified) grins and ended up with this. Yes, we look like dorks, but very happy ones.

You can see that a rumpled blue poncho is also immortalized in this photo. The rain had stopped by now, but we carried those around for the rest of the day like a talisman. The forecasts before our trip had indicated we’d have a lot of thunderstorms. We figured that if we kept our ponchos, then at least the rain would hold off for the rest of the day. It worked!

We grabbed some fast passes for the Jungle Cruise and, after enjoying a Dole Whip Float in honor of Bawb, headed for the Tiki Roon. It was restful hanging out in the queue with the waterfall and exotica music playing in the background.

Video of the Tiki Queue Area

If you only want to read about pixie dust and happy Disney thoughts, then you should probably skip this next part where I rant a little bit.

Eventually we got to head in and see the show. This was one of the biggest letdowns of the trip. I had read about the changes to the Tiki Room, but I guess I didn’t realize just how bad it would be. They don’t even play more than a few seconds of the tiki tiki tiki room song! My sister said the look of horror upon my face was quite amusing. The Enchanted Tiki Room used to be a charming little show and now it’s abrasive and not very “Disney”. I’ve read rumors that they are going to re-do it once again, this time to theme it as the Enchanted Stitch Room. Puke. There are a lot of details about this on another Disney forum (that I don’t think I’m allowed to link to). Disneyland went the opposite direction and has lovingly restored the show to something closer to its original incarnation. In fact, for its 45th anniversary this past June, they released all sorts of commemorative merchandise, including some by my favorite Disney artist Kevin Kidney. I know this isn’t necessarily the most popular sentiment here on the Dis, but I do wish Walt Disney World would take a little more pride in its history. Re-doing something in a lame attempt at being hip is one sure way of making certain an attraction isn’t going to stay relevant for long.

OK, rant over.

One bit of history Walt Disney World has that Disneyland stupidly destroyed is the Swiss Family Treehouse. I am so glad that Tarzan hasn’t evicted the Robinson family and moved in to their home in the Magic Kingdom. I can’t have been the only kid that wanted to live in this amazing Disneyodron Eximus treehouse. We had a good time exploring the treehouse and enjoyed the views from the top.

With the swisskapolka firmly embedded in our brains, we moved on to the Jungle Cruise. My sister and I love the corny humor and our skipper did not disappoint. We had a great spot at the very front of the boat. Skipper Manuel was hilarious and kept the patter going even during an extended wait before we docked. I adore this ride.

OK, that’s it for Adventureland. If you liked your ride my username is Teruterbouzu. If you didn’t, my username is IWuvTinkerBell1273* and I’m writing a trip report about towel animals I have known and loved**.

Next up, the Hall of Presidents and a brief Polynesian getaway.

* No offense meant to anyone with Tinkerbell in their name. I was just trying to think of a username that would seem like the “Jane Doe” of the Dis.

** Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

As a Jungle Cruise lover, I've just got to say :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Glad to see the Dole Whip for Bawb. We took "Flat Bawb" with us in June

Great update!

I totally agree with your Tiki Room criticism ... we don't even bother to visit that attraction which is such a shame because it used to be so much fun and then Jay and I would sing the song for the rest of the day.

And I love the picture of you and your sister ... it's great! :goodvibes

Thanks for laughing along with me! I'm glad you got to have a dole whip in honor of bob too!

Thank you! As sad as it sounds, I think I'll skip the tiki room next time around too. I had to listen to the original song on my iphone to try to cleanse my brain of the horror I had just witnessed.

Very cute photo of you and your sis, you look like you're having loads of fun :)

I agree about the Tiki Room, we did it in 2005 and haven't been back since :sad2:

:rotfl: The visual from this is hilarious! If I had been there I would have SO held up my end!!!!!!!

best Disneyfied (I love that Word wants to change this word to dignified)

It took me a minute to realize what you were talking about here, Microsoft Word! LOL Disnyfied, dignified...works either way for your pic! ;)

I plan to do this as well in November. I've never had a Dole Whip, but I will have my first one, in honor of Bawb! Did you take a pic?

We never did the Tiki Room, so I don't even know what to expect right now...but the Enchanted STITCH Room?! Are you serious?! That is just wrong sounding. He already has a ride, and it sucks, don't ruin another Disney!!

Haven't done this yet either! I look forward to it!!!

Thanks! My sister thought I was a weirdo for ordering the photopass pics, but it was too silly to pass up.

You'll have to make sure to do that little dance move when you're there in November! It was around 90 when we were there so I did not get a chance to photograph the Dole Whip float. It was melting too quickly! I did snap a photo of the Dole Whip booth at the Minnesota State Fair.

They've already opened up an Enchanted Stitch Room at Tokyo Disneyland. Here's a video (with sub-titles). Word is that they'll close the Stitch ride in Tomorrowland and move one of the animatronics to the Tiki room. I guess it's better than the current abomination, but I'd rather they restored it more like they did at the original Disneyland.

definately trying a Dole Whip in June. Yummy!!! I love the Jungle Cruise too. It's so cheesey, but a classic.

I totally agree with you about the tiki room! The first time I did it was in DL and then in WDW, I ma thankful for that because the original is SO MUCH BETTER! I always say if they at least go back to the original song at the end of the show it would be something, but NO!

great update and pics.

I have never seen the Tiki Room.

Dole Whips are yummy, but make sure you get the float. They are so good with the pineapple juice. My sister and I shared one and it was plenty.

Next trip, I'm going to ride the Jungle Cruise at night. People say that's a lot of fun.

I haven't been to Disneyland since the 90's. I think it needed a bit of work then, but we still loved the Tiki Room! You are right, if they at least played that song at the end, then maybe it would be tolerable. The way it is now is unwatchable.

great update and pics.

I have never seen the Tiki Room.

Thanks! You'll have to check it out next time you go to Disneyland. The MK version isn't worth watching.
