Yikes, I’m dragging this thing out. Sorry about that. I think it’s that subconsciously I don’t want this trip report to end because it means that the vacation is completely over. Done. Period. The end. If you’re still reading, thanks for sticking with me!

Magic Kingdom – Part VI
After
our refreshing trip into the past with our nation’s forefathers we marched back down Main Street and exited the park. We were headed to the monorail to do something I had wanted to do since I had last been there over 20 years before – ride the monorail into the Contemporary Resort Hotel!
Monorail!!!
I think I fell in love with this hotel at about age 5 when I saw the Mouseketeers at Walt Disney World on the Wonderful World of Disney. Who wouldn’t want to stay at a hotel with a monorail running through it? I do believe I’ll know I’ve made it when I can stay there in a room with a balcony and a view of the magic Kingdom.
Soon we were gliding away from the Magic Kingdom to the wonderful and amazing Contemporary Resort Hotel! With a song in our hearts, my sister and I led the car in a rousing rendition of Zip-a-dee-doo-dah.
Oh wait, that was the New Mickey Mouse Club, not us. I know I mentioned my fondness for the New Mickey Mouse Club in a post I wrote closer to when I started this report, about 12 years ago

After writing that post, I broke down and ordered a DVD of the
Mouseketeers at Walt Disney World. That’s where the screen shot came from. It was a lot of fun to watch that again and remember the first time I saw film of the monorail heading into the Contemporary.
Back to reality. When the non- Zip-a-dee-doo-dahed monorail pulled into the Contemporary we took a look around and enjoyed some of the ties to Disney’s past.
Like, a model of
the Tower of the Four Winds that stood outside it’s a small world at the 1964 World’s Fair.

And Mary Blair’s mural. One of my favorite Disney artists.

We took a peek at the shop. It’s cute, but I don’t think the design really fits with the architecture of the hotel. That said, there was a lot of construction going on, so it was hard to get a real feel for the interior space of the Contemporary. I’m looking forward to checking it out when they complete some of these projects they’re working on.
We thought about going to the lounge at the Wave to have a drink, but decided instead to hop back on the monorail and head to the Polynesian!

We strolled around the Brady Bunch goes to Hawaii splendor that is the Polynesian and settled in at the Tambu Lounge for a cocktail. My choice was already made – I had to have a
Lapu Lapu! A drink served in a real pineapple would just solidify that I really was on vacation! I ordered mine sans Bacardi 151 because it was pretty hot out and the last thing I felt like doing was getting so tipsy and tired that I wouldn’t enjoy the rest of the night at the Magic Kingdom. I’m kind of a lightweight when it comes to mixed drinks, but it was delicious!
No, my sister wasn’t drunk when she took this picture of me and my pineapple paradise. I had the camera set wrong. (Yes that's actually my finger, and not
E.T.'s)
My sister got a sangria and we settled into our bar stools and watched some Olympics. The Tambu lounge was a nice place to take a break. I’d definitely enjoy staying at the Polynesian at some point in the future.
Feet rested and cocktails downed, we got back on the resort monorail loop and headed back to the Magic Kingdom.
I’m hoping to wrap up our day at the Magic Kingdom in my next post.
Well, that didn't happen, but I did post a micro mini photo update.
