Disneyana Convention

Not sure if this is on the right boards, so moderators, if you have to move this thread, I understand! Thank you...

Ok, has anyone ever gone to the Disneyana Convention at WDW? It seems that the only way to go is to get a special package for the event, which I assume is held at the Contemporary. My DH and I are big collectors (which is a VERY expensive hobby) and we're thinking of going to Disneyana in 2003. I'd like the scoop, if anyone has it! Thanks very much!!!!!!

I have attended PUBLIC DAY for the past 6 years. This is usually the Saturday of the convention, although this changed this year. Being a local, and belonging to the two local chapters of the NFFC I meet a lot of Disney collectors, and most of them attend the entire convention every year. They have loads of fun.
The convention was held at the Contemp and most of the funtions were at the Contemp Convention Center up to this year.
This year it was held at Epcot (and I heard that they inked a 5 year deal) and most stayed at the Y&BC.
On Public Day, those who did not pay and attend the Private Functions are invited to attend a couple of the Disneyana events. This usually includes The Artist's Room, Minnie's Attic, The Logo Store, The Limited Store, and The Disney Showcase. In prior years there was a seperate addmission to attend this event, but this year it was included with your Epcot entry, if you knew where to look.
I always have a great time on Public Day, pick up a few Convention Items, and get to meet, talk to and collect signatures of the artists.

Thank you for the info. I was not aware that there was a public day. This sounds like the way my DH and I would probably go. Do you know where I can find the dates for the convention/public day for 2003? How far in advance are they usually released? Do they advertise public day? Thank you again!

I have been to three Disneyana Conventions and I must say that they "AREN"T WHAT THEY USED TO BE".
Our first experience was at WDW three years ago and yes, it was held at the Contemporary and it was WONDERFUL. The following year they moved it to Disneyland because of the 100th birthday of Walt Disney and again it was WONDERFUL.
This year they were back at WDW and moved it to EPCOT and it was TERRIBLE. It seems as tho nobody knew what they were doing and nobody knew where anything was. It was spread all over EPCOT from the World Showplace to Innoventions West to Norway and the Living Seas. In years past there was only one public day but, this year they were almost all public days. If you had admission to Epcot you could get into most of the events. There were not a lot of happy conventionEars this year.
I think the only reason I would do it again is to meet with my friends as Disney has managed to truly mess up a good thing.

Depending on how "serious" a collector you are, you would also want to attend or at least get a program to see what they are auctioning off at the "big auction" which they hold before public day. I believe you can get a paddle for the aution without paying for the whole event.

I would have to agree that this year's event was run very poorly. My only hope is that they learn from their mistakes and next years will be an improvement. It would be hard to imagine thta it could be worse.

Also, I am guessing that a lot of people will complain about why they should pay for the event, when they could just go on public day.
