Disney YES Program Open to non-groups

I submitted my info when I first started making my plans a couple months ago. I forget the details, but remember thinking they were pretty good deals. Had a couple places call me after sending me emails, but no one called me again after I told them I had found different accomodations.

Not sure how big your group is or how they know each other, but, since we're mostly family, we ended up going through www.vrbo.com & found a 7-bedroom villa for our group of 17 for only $1300 for our week in September(includes cleaning fees, taxes, pool heat, etc).

The villa would be fun. It would be a group of boy scouts. Not sure the parents would think it was nearly as fun as the kids though, but it is something I'll check into. I had just clicked on the disney hotels and hadn't thought further. Thanks!

Hi All,
We have a trip to DW planned for Jan. 20-Feb. 3. We wanted to order homeschool tickets and I am wondering when is the last possible date for us to do this and be able to pick them up at a Will Call window. My husband was told there may be some changes to his job next year but, was not informed how soon those may take place. I am afraid, since these tickets are non-refundable, that I would order them and then not be able to make this trip. I have a son who is really looking forward to the Wild by Nature class so I am hoping everything will work out fine.

Also, I saw that the class starts at AK at 10 a.m. and lasts 3 hours. For anyone that has done this class already, do they let you take bathroom breaks? How about having a snack? Is it 3 hours of solid walking or do you stop and sit somewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!

We were looking at trying to get a group together for the week of Nov 13-19..we have 2 girls so we would need 8 more kids for the group. They don't have open enrollment yet for this time.

My only dilemma is that it says for a group that ther is a maximum of 1 adult per 5 students..if we get a group together of different families, this wouldn't work. Has anyone done a group like this with strangers and had it work? We could just wait and hope for open enrollment I guess. We were looking at the How things work class for 5-8 year olds.

We did a group in Nov., 2 actually.
K-2nd grade: 21 kids & 3rd-10th: 15kids.
W/ the younger groups, they require a chaperon per student 6yo and under (the 7 & 8 yos were NOT allowed to have their parent w/ them as long as there were 2 adult present for that group) We were split into 3 smaller groups of 7 for the class.

this is great!! thanks for the info. My daughters will be in the same class so that would be fine. My youngest will be 5 so she will need me with her anyway:thumbsup2

If you don't mind me asking, did you set this up as a group or open enrollment? If you did open enrollment, when did it start? We are going next Nov and there isn't open enrollment yet for anything past August.

It was a group of us that met on the boards.
It started because my oldest (DS12) wanted to take one of the physics classes, but everyone who was interested also had younger siblings.

Quick question: I registered my daughter for the individual enrollment. Will anything happen to my tickets if the enrollment is not met?

If enrollment is not met, the tix will still be good.

I thought I had seen a start time for my program previously but I don't now. Does anyone know where I might find that info?

We are hoping to do individual enrollment in August 2011. I thought I read that there were longer tickets (beyond 5 day park/5 day WP&M) pass but maybe they were combining the 5 + 5. Is the limit 5/5?

I'm confused about the individual enrollment.
We are thinking about going in June.
When I go to the website, it lists 4 different programs for June 14th under the individual enrollment section.
http://www.disneyyouth.com/individual-enrollment/catalog/

But when I click on "Sign up now" for the first 3 of those programs, it says it's available to groups of 10 or more:

I sent an email to WDW.YES.Programs@disney.com
They said they only manage the school group trips and they forwarded my questions to the appropriate department, but that department is off for the holidays, so I'm not sure when I'll hear back from them.

So does anyone know what the deal is with this?

When you find out, please let me know. That is the date I was looking at. The one I am interested in is Wild By Nature, but the one that will be in the afternoon, I think. I have an email address. PM if you are interested. But I would love to have answer for this.

I am finding there aren't many programs listed for age 7, mostly I am seeing Age 8 and up. Does anyone in the program check birth certs for age or can my well behaving 7 (almost 8) year old attend the 8 and up program?

We did 2 classes in Nov.
Prop of Motion & How Things Move.
YES insisted I put our 7yo in the older group because he's in the 3rd grade & it would be more on his level.
I wish I had gone w/ my instinct though, because my DH who was w/ the older group while I went w/ the younger, said he acted up, got bored & tried to distract the teacher.

So if your 7yo is very calm then go for the older program, but if he's a joker then go w/ the younger class.

No they did not ask for proof of age.

Last year my dd was 7 (with about a month before her 8th birthday). I contacted the young lady with the organization and she said that it would be fine for her to attend. I suspect as long as your child is interested, it should not be an issue. We ended up not doing it because I was too late to register for my dates. Otherwise, its an awesome program.

I think last year you couldn't actually register for the summer classes online until the winter ones were over. If they are listed under individual enrollment, then they will be open for that. You may be able to register over the phone earlier. I am waiting for my tax refund to register.

Can anyone tell me how to get to your class if it starts before the parks open? We are using ME so we are not planning to rent a car. Thanks!

Monorail and theme park buses begin running at least 1 hour before park opening time ( many guests have ADR's for breakfast at park restaurants ); bus runs may even begin more than an hour earlier than park opening time but you should verify that over on Transportation Board and I'd call to ask Disney's YES CMs what they advise. You may want to consider taking a taxi from your resort for peace of mind. It's a good idea to get there 10-15 minutes earlier than the starting time, our program in August was scheduled to begin at MK's opening time and it did.

We didn't do Wild by Nature but I will tell you of our experience for 3 hour World of Physics:Energy & Waves class :
my sister & I each took a water bottle along as did my daughter & niece, and we had mints, lifesaver candies in our bag too; it seemed that everyone in our class had brought bottle of water or soda along, one of the younger kids asked his mom for a piece of granola bar at one point. The age range of kids in our group was approximately 8 or 9 years through 15-16 year old teens.

About half way through our class there was only one short stop for restrooms and quick purchase at counter serve in Fantasyland ( our instructor advised ' for a drink, NOT a meal ' AND at the start of class pointed out that there would be no stopping for popcorn, churros etc.) There was a child in our group who needed to use restroom during another point & went with their parent but the program continued on & they just had to catch up with us.

Our class was a good amount of walking & standing (in the August heat & humidity :rotfl:): we went from MK entrance to one of the little side streets off Main Street where we stood for a 15 minute presentation/talk, then on to Stitch's Great Escape in Tomorrowland where we stood another 10-15 minutes for demonstration/talk and then waited about 10-15 minutes on line to see Stitch's Great Escape (this was really my only overall small 'issue' with our class - - a class/tour imho should not be waiting on the regular line to an attraction; Disney's YES Program should have it arranged for these groups to board attractions without waiting).

From Stitch's Great Escape we went to Fantasyland for restrooms, etc. & then sat briefly (less than 15 min) for another activity, then walked over to Liberty Square for another 10-15 min standing presentation. Then over to Haunted Mansion where we waited on line about 5 min - rode HM - then went to backstage area of HM where we toured a bit ( more walking & standing, about 15 min); then walked back to Fantasyland to Mickey's Philharmagic for short presentation (under 10 min) and then on line to see Philharmagic. We finished our class around 10-15 minutes earlier than the scheduled time of 3 hours.

What happens if you miss your pickup time? I think that I need to pay for the delivery. Could someone kindly tell me how to order more than the 5 days offered? I would really really appreciate it.

From what I know if you miss your pick-up time at a theme park will call window and you call the YES office before it closes for the day then it may be possible for them to arrange to have you pick up your tickets at Downtown Disney will call window which stays open a bit later (think 4pm?) than the park will calls. Otherwise you'd be out of luck until the next day.

If you want more than 5 days on ticket you have to type in how many days you want in comments section when you fill out online form.

Hi, this is the response that I got from the email that I sent to the representative about the June 14th course. I hope this helps. I will be adding the reminder date range to my phone so that I can remember. :thumbsup2

Hello!

We are excited that you will be joining us for our Open Enrollment program. Enrollment for June is not open yet. It should be opening in early 2011 (probably end of February or early March). Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you!

Thank you for posting the response you've received! :thumbsup2 I have also asked questions about this date and awhile back. It was mentioned they had/have an issue with the webstie looping back to last years information and it not being available yet. Which class are you looking at? Perhaps we'll see you? We're not 100% yet, however I did put a reservation on hold today at POFQ! :cool1:

Another question I had in case anyone has experienced this. We have one child attending and therefore the rules state only one parent can attend. Hmm..which one of us will go? :rotfl: Anyway, is this a hard and fast rule (which is fine if so) or have any of you guys had one child attend but two parents were able to go along? I'm trying to figure out our days and it appears likely one of us will have to stay back alone and then we'll have to meet up somewhere.
