Disney Y.E.S. - Too Good to be True?

Hi all -

I'm new to the board, but I have a question for you veterans . . .

I signed my 14 y/o DS up for a Y.E.S. event, through open enrollment. I am his adult chaperone. We have six other family members just going to the parks, so I bought 8 four day Park Hopper tickets through the Y.E.S. program. I asked a Y.E.S. representative if that price extended to everyone, even those not attending an event, and she said yes.

So, we got 8 tickets at less than half price for 2 of us participating in a 3 hour educational experience. It sounds too good to be true. Has anyone participated in this program? Did it work out for you? Are there restrictions I am missing?

TIA!

Dawn

Dawn, we did it this last trip, It was GREAT! There was no downsides and no issues. Hopefully, all the people that sign up for the classes DO take them, otherwise I am quite sure YES being taken advantage of...(just for tix) will not continue ;) we did the physics class and the class really was enjoyable, fun, and a great learning time while having FUN and being at Disney....Geez, a no brainer and a win win situation for sure! I really felt like it was a bit of a "tour" as well, so many Xtra things that we learned about Disney...and since I am ADDICTED, it was great for me too :lmao:
so to all those YES instructors, :flower3: Keep Up The Good Work!!
Good For you, that it worked out.:cheer2:...wish there was something we could make for our next trip, but not avail :sad2:

what month in 2011 are you looking at?

We're going to be there the first week in Jan and then again from May 20th through some point in July. My kids will be 5, 6, 7 and 12(well 13 by spring)

Don't want to hijack your thread but I'd love to know as well. We are going in Februrary 2011. I would love if my kids could participate!

Maybe we should start a 2011 thread to see what interest is out there to match up ages and dates. :goodvibes

Signed my kids up today for our August trip and got an awesome deal on 10 day premium tix!!!! Thanks all for sharing this. We saved a ton of money and we all get to do something we've never done at disney before!

Did you call or go online to register? I want to sign up my 2 kids for August and am also interested in the 10 day tickets but didn't see where they were available. The most I saw was for 7 days.

Thanks!!!

We're going Feb 14-19th, and I have 4 kids who want to participate in a class. I have been thinking of coordinating a class-but, if someone else wants to do it (I'm a Disney newbie, admittedly) I could provide you with 40% of a class, LOL!

Maybe I should start a thread? With that week being before President's day week, there should be interest

eta- See New Thread!!!

awe we won't be going till Nov.

Can someone please explain what the YES program is or give a link that explains it? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

We are going Feb 21 to 28, although the date of the class would have to be Feb 22 to Feb 27 because of late arrival, early departure. Would be interested in trying to coordinate a class with others. I'd have 4 kids total in my group (two ten year olds, a 9 year old and a 12 year old). Would probably lean toward something at AK, but have no definite preferences.

Here is a link to a good thread about it. I wish they would make it a sticky.

To make it short and sweet, YES is Youth Education Series. It is a program where groups of students(and chaperones) take a 3-4 hour class at a Disney park one morning of their trip. The student's party gets heavily discounted tickets for their participation. The program was only for groups of 10 or more(usually homeschoolers) at one time, but Disney has started opening up some classes for any students. The tickets you get are dated and not upgradeable.

Quick question- I went to the YES website and it says the program is for K-12th grades but other things I've read on DIS says it's for 1st grade and up! Which is it??? My son is starting kindergarten this year (he's going to be one of the oldest in his class at 6 just about at the start) and is highly interested in the ins and outs of Disney and the technical aspects of things going on there! He is a really smart kid and I know he would love it if his age is allowed! Anyone know??

Thanks!

I did send a help email over the weekend and then called on Monday morning. Julie and Heidi were very helpful. You have to add to the comment section if you want a different ticket. They offered an 8 and 10 day. What are your dates?

There is only one K-2 class for YES. It's the one I'd like to do for my youngest. The 'How things move' program

There is also a 1st-5th program 'Synergy in Science'

We'll be trying a YES program for the first time in two weeks! I emailed last week when the August/Sept/Oct dates were finalized, signed youngest up for the Wild By Nature program at AK (she's thrilled!), bought the tickets online, got a DVC reservation (!!!!) and received our YES tickets by FedEx yesterday :)

Guess I'd better change my signature LOL

I sure hope that the minimum of 10 sign up for the class. August 10 anyone?

DS did the "How Things Move" class at MK a couple of years ago, right before he started Kindergarten and there were no problems. In fact, we had someone's younger sibling in our class - ... when the teacher asked how old everyone was the little boy said "Usually I'm 4 but today I'm suppose to say I'm 5." The dad's face turned a hundred different shades of red. The teacher just smiled and continued on. My understanding was that if they were going into Kindergarten you're okay.

It was a great class - he was still talking about some of the things he learned/experienced when we were at WDW earlier this summer.

This thread has been so helpful. I have seen YES threads before and skipped over them - and for some reason decided to read this one today. We're going in May - June 2011 and I know our two older children would love something like this! (and I'd love the discount, too).

yay! another May/June family! :goodvibes

We did this in March. HUGE savings on tickets!! We had 3 kids do the class and we bought 5 tickets. DH and I already had APs. (We have 4 kids and teenager brings a friend.) The kids really enjoyed the class too.

How would the YES program work with Free Dining or a room discount?

Not sure about the free dining but I booked this with the 40% room discount. There was an option on the phone to speak with someone about accomodations. Not sure if there's a discount for that too!!
