Disney Y.E.S. Program

We are here now. The class is tomorrow. I wanted to let you know my ticket experience is not what I expected. We picked up our tickets at Will Call at Animal Kingdom. We were issued regular tickets good for 6/9 - 6/21. First of all, my receipt says good until June 30 (7 days after the end of my trip as expected). Second of all, that's only 13 days. A regular ticket gives you 14!!! We also got regular tickets and were finger printed. While none of this actually effects negatively ( we will be done at the parks by the 21st and I don't care about the fingerprinting), it is not at all what I expected by reading the dis threads nor by the info I was given when I ordered the tickets. Because I don't need them to be "right", I didn't say anything. However, it's a heads up for others of you out there.

I will try to post about the class afterwards. However, my dh is going, not me, so not sure if I'll be able to give the best description.

They are still good starting the day you check in, correct?
 
"Regular" ticket are Tyvek :) YES tickets should also be on Tyvek - the only difference is the information that gets printed on the back.

This could just be a case of the CM issuing the ticket incorrectly.

We had 10 tickets (family traveled with us) - on maybe the 2nd or 3rd day - 2 of us were fingerprinted. The next day 1 person previously and someone 'new' was asked to be fingerprint - because we didn't write down the names on the ticket, we spent a few minutes trying to remember which child ticket was fingerprinted. I would suggest to everyone to write their names on tickets with large number of people (and the ticket characters are repeated).

BTW, it isn't a fingerprint. It measures the distance between bones in the finger or something like that. It does not take your fingerprint.

It is possible that the tickets could be encoded to require a finger scan (especially if the previous poster may have gotten incorrectly coded tickets). The big test is to put the ticket in and wait a couple seconds. If the light turns green before even putting your finger on the scanner, and the scanners are in fact on at the time (other people are being required to scan), then you should NEVER need to scan. However, there is a bit of a delay, and people put their fingers on the scanner anyways - and the CMs don't want to waste time waiting to see if the scan is needed or not, so they tell you to put it on there unless you are obviously under 10 (no child ticket should ever require a scan).

More specifically, the current system looks at the ridges of your fingerprint, picks a few well-defined points (sharp curves, merges, etc.) and creates a simple numeric value based on the geometry of the points it picked. It's not a full fingerprint or scan, and the scan itself is not stored, only the numerical value calculated, which IIRC is just a 4 digit value, meaning there is at best a 1-10000 random match ratio with another guest. Good enough for the reason they use it.

I believe bone geometry scanners have fallen out of favor in general, but I think that's what the old "peace sign" scanners did. One facility I have access too still uses a whole-hand version of them, and if you don't do it exactly right, they don't work. A colleague of mine was stuck in a "man trap" for a bit his first time through because he kept pressing down hard on the scanner, until I noticed he wasn't behind me and I went back and had to yell through the plexiglass not to press down...

If they were will-call then they might have been issued incorrectly. I didn't think of that. I was thinking they were all mailed back then. We also were asked to do the finger scan several times, but we didn't really NEED to. It was quicker to do it than to explain that it wasn't necessary, lol. :upsidedow

This is our first time using the YES tickets, so I'm not sure how they were done before...but like you said, it's easier to just put that finger on the scanner right away than wait just to know if you needed to or not...

That's interesting because we knew it was one of the three boys tickets (because we gave them Mickey, goofy, and pluto - boys) when one of my little cousins tried we were told no, it wasn't him, so we tried his brother. It worked.

Maybe your tickets weren't issued correctly. How old were the boys? Even with 'regular' tickets they should not need to do the finger scan unless they're age 10+ (because they would then have an adult ticket).

Yes ours were mailed to us.

Wondered if that normal? I mean wears a family of four & I'm sure we're no where near the only ones that have a child that can enroll & one that can't...I just don't think we should have to pay regular child prices for her if we're doing the Y.E.S. program.

Did you list your DD's name on the registration form? You do need to include her in the children's names, even though she isn't attending a class. princess:

Right...on the very first form to fill out, list EVERYONE in the family.

That will allow you to purchase the right amount of tickets later on. That's what I had to do as we had the same thing...one DD is taking the course, and there was no course the other DD could take, but they allow us to buy tickets for all (up to the set limits).
 
I've found the person at YES to be very helpful..I'm pretty sure we're all talking about the same guy...DL are his initials :) I entered the wrong arrival date on our reservation and he was able to change it and did so in the most kind and genuine way..REALLY great guy! I need to change them yet again, so he'll be hearing from me today..lol ;)

Signed up and purchased tickets february 7th.

received a class confirmation email monday for DD's Wild by Nature class on June 26
DS did not receive anything for his Synergy in Science for same date.
My friend did not receive anything for her 2 DD's either, same class as my dd.

Called in this morning, person I spoke with took the 3 children's name, class names, and date of class and is forwarding to enrollment to have information sent.

Keeping fingers crossed.
 
I just added a ticket to my YES program this Monday (for our July 20th trip). My neice is going with us. I just got the confirmation today. They sent me an entirely new ticket form to take to Disney's Will Call to pick up the tickets. The class is all booked up (Art Animation). But she could still get a YES Disney ticket. I had no problems. If you want me too, I'll PM the guy I used too. BTW, only 1 child is registered for a class and I purchased a total of 5 tickets. I love this individual program.

Yep, this is the same guy I used. His first name is the same as my husband - shortened. My DH name is David. :thumbsup2 - he was REALLY nice!

Yup that's the guy! I'm sure if he reads this thread it'll make him smile, he is genuinely helpful and friendly in every way. Really appreciate his attitude and helpfulness. LOVE this program and the way it's run!!! :flower3:
 
How far in advance are these announced? I am currently seeing the latest dates available as October 31st. We will be in the parks early December, and not only are the tickets a great deal, my kids would actually love to attend a couple of these classes.
