We booked the one at Animal Kingdom. What would happen if it should really rain? Would they still have the class?
And why would your child be puking first thing in the morning just out of the blue? I can see if he was one who got motion sick and it was in the afternoon. And would he puke for hours or something? I guess I'm just confused.![]()
I was a bit confused too. I can understand if perhaps this child has some severe illness, but my two younger kids have severe motion sickness and sometimes they vomit multiple times a day. It never even crossed my mind that we would miss our classes because of it. They just get sick and move on.
As for the original question, I don't think anyone can tell you first hand what happens if you miss the class. I don't think they had as firm of a policy in the past, but they realized that people were signing up for the discount with no intention of attending the classes. So now they clearly state that they have the right to void your tickets to discourage people from taking advantage of the program. Perhaps they will accept a phone call letting them know a child is sick as a valid excuse, but if they feel a number of people are lying to skip the classes they may become more strict and require proof of illness or injury.
We deal with anxiety in our family. No need to be actually sick, or "severely sick" - the anxiety causes the sickness and can take awhile to pass. It's not something you can predict either; maybe he's so nervous he makes himself throw up, or maybe not. Same thing with rides. Even if he knows we don't have to ride something, he can get very worked up. But chances are, 5 times out of 6, we'll have no problems, and I don't feel like he should be excluded from a class because he "might" get sick. That's why I was wondering if they were going to turn around and charge me, or let me try to get into another class (which is probably impossible), or ... ?
And interestingly enough, he's not the only kid I know like this. A friend has a child who throws up any time they're nervous, and the doc said it's not uncommon in children. I know another little girl who "gets a tummy ache" pretty much every time her mother leaves her, I've laid down with her myself for an hour or so to try to keep her calm while her mother ran some needed errands. No "severe illness" - our doc says keep him calm and relaxed and don't push him if he has this happen to him.
I'll talk to YES about this. Thanks for your input.
I apologize that my post was offensive to you.
In your earlier posts you casually mentioned "puker" and "weak stomach" so I took that to mean something much different than a child who vomits due to anxiety issues. For that I can definitely understand being worried about missing the class.
With various issues in my family, I have been exposed to vomiting on a regular basis since I was a young child so I tend to see it as no big deal. On the other hand I know many people who make such a big deal of the fact that their child puked once and that every plan they make involves being overly worried about the child being "a puker". I unfairly applied these experiences to your earlier comments. Again, I am sorry.
I'll get the straight story from YES; I thought maybe someone had dealt with it already, and this is a useful thread.
I read through this entire thread also looking for the exact same thing. Not that we expect to have anyone sick, but you just simply never know. Not wanting to cancel and really hope we wouldn't have to. My girls are excited about the class and it looks fun. SO, my hubby called the YES program this morning and asked. The lady he talked to said you'd just lose your $28 you paid for the class and that was it. It would have no effect on the tickets. But after reading what a PP posted from their policy, I don't trust what the CM said. I'd only buy the tickets through them knowing if you didn't attend, you'd either lose tickets or they'd charge you the higher rate.
Understandable. We try to be flippant about it so that it doesn't weigh on him, so I'm sure that came across here. I wouldn't want the added stress of "well, whatever you do, don't get anxious or they're going to charge us another $300 for tickets". I'll get the straight story from YES; I thought maybe someone had dealt with it already, and this is a useful thread.
It does sound strange to me...It doesn't seem to me like you actually pay $28, at least for the first course, as it's rolled in to the price of the tickets. There is the additional charge to take additional classes if you already have YES tickets.
Just booked DD10 and DS7 for the Ocean Discoveries on October 17th. I really wanted the Wild Animal on October 16th but it was closed alreadyNo matter. It's still about animals which the kids will love, and it still saved us $500. Thanks for all the information in this thread. It was very helpful in making our decision.
We were just at WDW and DGD did the Animation class at HS. She and her mom had to be at the HS flagpole at the main entrance at 7:45 am and we were afraid to trust the buses. We called Disney Transportation from our room at POP and were connected directly to a cab service (I think Yellow Cab). I made a reservation with them, they showed up on time and my daughter and granddaughter made it to Hollywood Studios in about 7-8 minutes. It was worth the $10 (including tip) to not worry about the buses being late or whatever. Just food for thought!
