Disney Y.E.S. Program

We booked the one at Animal Kingdom. What would happen if it should really rain? Would they still have the class?

Not sure, but if they canceled the class, your tickets would still be good.

And why would your child be puking first thing in the morning just out of the blue? I can see if he was one who got motion sick and it was in the afternoon. And would he puke for hours or something? I guess I'm just confused.:confused3

I was a bit confused too. I can understand if perhaps this child has some severe illness, but my two younger kids have severe motion sickness and sometimes they vomit multiple times a day. It never even crossed my mind that we would miss our classes because of it. They just get sick and move on.

As for the original question, I don't think anyone can tell you first hand what happens if you miss the class. I don't think they had as firm of a policy in the past, but they realized that people were signing up for the discount with no intention of attending the classes. So now they clearly state that they have the right to void your tickets to discourage people from taking advantage of the program. Perhaps they will accept a phone call letting them know a child is sick as a valid excuse, but if they feel a number of people are lying to skip the classes they may become more strict and require proof of illness or injury.

We deal with anxiety in our family. No need to be actually sick, or "severely sick" - the anxiety causes the sickness and can take awhile to pass. It's not something you can predict either; maybe he's so nervous he makes himself throw up, or maybe not. Same thing with rides. Even if he knows we don't have to ride something, he can get very worked up. But chances are, 5 times out of 6, we'll have no problems, and I don't feel like he should be excluded from a class because he "might" get sick. That's why I was wondering if they were going to turn around and charge me, or let me try to get into another class (which is probably impossible), or ... ?

And interestingly enough, he's not the only kid I know like this. A friend has a child who throws up any time they're nervous, and the doc said it's not uncommon in children. I know another little girl who "gets a tummy ache" pretty much every time her mother leaves her, I've laid down with her myself for an hour or so to try to keep her calm while her mother ran some needed errands. No "severe illness" - our doc says keep him calm and relaxed and don't push him if he has this happen to him.

I'll talk to YES about this. Thanks for your input.

I apologize that my post was offensive to you.

In your earlier posts you casually mentioned "puker" and "weak stomach" so I took that to mean something much different than a child who vomits due to anxiety issues. For that I can definitely understand being worried about missing the class.

With various issues in my family, I have been exposed to vomiting on a regular basis since I was a young child so I tend to see it as no big deal. On the other hand I know many people who make such a big deal of the fact that their child puked once and that every plan they make involves being overly worried about the child being "a puker". I unfairly applied these experiences to your earlier comments. Again, I am sorry.

Thinking about signing my dd's up for the "Wild by Nature" class on Sept. 18th. Is that still a super hot time there or should the heat be a bit more tolerable? Class starts at 8:30.

I've been thinking about the YES program for awhile and this thread helped push me over :goodvibes Also, we decided to rent points and stay deluxe so I need to save other places and this is a great way to save :woohoo:

Understandable. We try to be flippant about it so that it doesn't weigh on him, so I'm sure that came across here. I wouldn't want the added stress of "well, whatever you do, don't get anxious or they're going to charge us another $300 for tickets". I'll get the straight story from YES; I thought maybe someone had dealt with it already, and this is a useful thread.

I read through this entire thread also looking for the exact same thing. Not that we expect to have anyone sick, but you just simply never know. Not wanting to cancel and really hope we wouldn't have to. My girls are excited about the class and it looks fun. SO, my hubby called the YES program this morning and asked. The lady he talked to said you'd just lose your $28 you paid for the class and that was it. It would have no effect on the tickets. But after reading what a PP posted from their policy, I don't trust what the CM said. I'd only buy the tickets through them knowing if you didn't attend, you'd either lose tickets or they'd charge you the higher rate.

It does sound strange to me...It doesn't seem to me like you actually pay $28, at least for the first course, as it's rolled in to the price of the tickets. There is the additional charge to take additional classes if you already have YES tickets.

It almost happened to us. My DS took the Animation class last Oct. The class was early and he wasn't thrilled about getting up. He said he didn't feel that good. I thought he was just tired. We still went to the class but he didn't participate much (not that unusual for him cause he is shy) I will say though there wasn't alot of pressure and there were a couple of other kids that were pretty quiet. So we made it through the class and the plan was that we were going to stay at DHS for a few hours, but he said he wanted to just go back to the resort. :confused3 As it turned out we ended at Urgent Care later that evening with strep throat. He had just gone off meds for strep a few days earlier and probably never got over it completely (he has done this before).

I am sure that people have to cancel because their kids get sick and I doubt it will affect your tickets as long as you notified them. But I would be curious to know what they tell you. Our class was fun (well not so much for my DS :sad1:) and informal so your DS shouldn't feel too much stress......as long as you can get him there.;)

I agree. It does seem strange. I've not crunched the numbers though to see if they are adding an additional $28 per child and parent attending on top of the ticket prices they quote. We aren't too concerned about sickness but we are flying in a few days before and it never fails, someone gets sick from the plane  So, for us, just more of a "what if".

Just booked DD10 and DS7 for the Ocean Discoveries on October 17th. I really wanted the Wild Animal on October 16th but it was closed already :( No matter. It's still about animals which the kids will love, and it still saved us $500. Thanks for all the information in this thread. It was very helpful in making our decision.

I am soooooo thankful that I booked our class last week because now it is closed! Word of advice for those of you who are definitely planning on doing a YES class, book it as soon as you can!

We booked the Wild by Nature for Oct 16th class last week. Sorry you missed out on it! It would have been nice to run into some other DIS board members there.

I've been waiting to see what, if any, discounts come out for October and after reading the above post - Wild by Nature being closed for October 16 - I went ahead and bought our Y.E.S. tickets just now. I was just too afraid to wait and then miss out on this savings opportunity.

So, it's Wild by Nature for us on October 23rd! :cool1:

I had previously asked DS12, he turns 13 on October 11th, who he wanted to go to the class with him, or did he maybe want to go by himself. Right away he said, "Mom." :goodvibes I think DH may have been a little hurt but as a mom to 4 boys, and he's my last "baby", it's nice to still be wanted.

I can't get over the savings. Our cost was $814.24 and the same tickets, at full price, would have been $1320+.

I'm sure it'll be great fun!! We've been on one other Disney tour, Behind the Seeds at Epcot, and it was very informative but at the same time they made it really fun. :thumbsup2

Does anyone know how early buses start running? We'll need to get from BLT to AK for an 8:30 class. Is that doable? Won't have a car.

Hi all! Thanks for the tip!!! We just signed up kids for Wild by Nature on 10/2 and Animation Magic on 10/5. Can't believe what a great deal this was, although it was tough to let FD discount go...I still think we'll make out better in long run, plus classes look neat!

We were just at WDW and DGD did the Animation class at HS. She and her mom had to be at the HS flagpole at the main entrance at 7:45 am and we were afraid to trust the buses. We called Disney Transportation from our room at POP and were connected directly to a cab service (I think Yellow Cab). I made a reservation with them, they showed up on time and my daughter and granddaughter made it to Hollywood Studios in about 7-8 minutes. It was worth the $10 (including tip) to not worry about the buses being late or whatever. Just food for thought!

Thanks! That is definitely worth $10:)
