Disney World without your Kids? Top 3 Things To Do Alone?

I will be doing this in March. My Mom is driving down to Florida the 2nd week of March to scout out places to live. She has asked me to come down there and take a look at some of the places that they have chosen to see what I think. They are staying at WDW while there (we both own DVC). I can't pull the kids out of school again so I am flying down myself for 5 nights the 3rd week of March. I know I will spend some of the time house hunting. But since they are going first they will have some of the places scouted out first and just want my final approval. I should have plenty of time to play while I am there and I also have an AP so I am not concerned about having to spend a day on a ticket if I only get to spend a few hours.

I like the idea of walking around World Showcase slowly. I also plan on sitting on a lot of park benches and just taking it all in.

Can I have your boss? Please?

That's one of those "did I really hear you correctly?" moments.

I second the shopping, tour, and spa suggestions. I had a great time at SAB alone while DH was at a conference. Go figure.

Again, can I have your boss?

Believe me it was all I could do to contain myself. Behind my back I was directing "It's A Small World After All" as I was saying "If you really think I need to go..."

And what's worse is the fact that DH can't go. He loves Disney as much as I do and everytime I mention going, I can see the pain that he is going through! I've done my best to just not bring it up. But, the truth is, it's all that I have been able to think about!!! I can't wait!

1. Jellyrolls - absolutely no doubt about it
2. Pleasure Island
3. Any meal that you have always wanted to have in peace!! LOL

I can't wait to pin trade to my heart's content! I'm planning to get a seat right in front of the castle for Wishes! I can get there an hour in advance and I don't have to worry about entertaining the little ones while I wait! How exciting is that! I might get a front row seat for the parade too!

I'm going to try to ride Expidition Everest as many times as I possibly can! I'm going to go to Le Cellier in Canada and order the most expensive thing on the menu!

I'm going to get a funnel cake in America in the WS! I'm going to ride Pirates as many times as I can and try to lock the memory in since it will be different the next time we make it to Disney! I think I'm going to try to do a ride through of Pirates with my digital camera.

dh and i were naughty..when our ds was 9 months old, we left him with my mum and we went to disney world. we had opportunity to go for very very cheap, so we took the chance while it presented itself. since that trip we said 'omg we can't wait to take our son"

well november this year, we take both our kids!

but anyway i digress....

we didn't do as much as we wanted to do sans kids....because of circumstances we had to stay off site (grumble. never again) and we missed out on a character breakfast just the two of us (couldn't get there on time wouldn't pay the steep cab fare) we missed going to the comedy club (the night we planned had no transportation back to the hotel from Pleasure island. again, wouldn't pay the steep cab fare) and we were too foolish to plan a meal at Grand Floridian (victoria and alberts i think)

so if i were going with just my hubby, or just me even! the above 3 things are what i (we) would do.
a) character breafkast, no kids!
b) comedy club (or another club) at Pleasure iSland
c) Victoria and Alberts, because you are worth the night out!

have a great time!

I would forget the Drink Around the World...
But I have allways wanted to Eat Dessert Around the World... with out sharing! I have a much higher tolerance for Choclate/cake/sweet then booze.. I am such a cheap date, 1 1/2 drink and take me home, hon!

I did WDW alone for a few days last year, and had a blast, then in Aug did DL in Cal for 3 days solo.

I did all the shows no one else in the family has ever wanted to do, esp at AK ! and loved them!
Did Adventures Club, then took the family back, kids loved it, DH not so much :confused3 !

Did a tour solo.

Did lots of food and toured all the hotels/resorts in WDW I had never got to.
So you could Eat Dessert Around the World in Ecopt and WDW!

Played mini golf. I am such a sap!
Almost did the Circ D' sol thing solo, La Nubia? Have done this with the family and loved it, but couldn't stand to spend that much on it for me alone....

Did Disney Quest solo, I HATE video games! HATE THEM ! Love DQ... no idea why. Spent about 5 hours there on a weekday when it first opened, think it was a Wed. No one was there! It rocked!

Did a water park solo... had a ton of fun.

Went to the mall... it is the only mall that I have ever found the make up Bare Minerals and I wanted to try them..did and had a free make over. Or rather it would have been free if I hadn't spent money on the makeup.... :lmao:

Got my first Dole Whip.
MAXED out on the points for Buzz Lightyear! Ok, the ride did break down. But still! I won't be doing that again....

Chrome64,

Try the Tennants in the Rose&Crown, if that's not available, or even if it is, sample the Boddington's there also. I prefer Dos Equis beer in Mexico over a Maurigrita (sp). Labatts in Canada outside, Moosehead in Le Cellier and if they ever get Ringnes beer back in Norway, grab it, Carlsburg doesn't measure up IMHO.

We just returned today from our trip w/o the kids (3yr and 4mo).

We did the Segway tour at EPCOT...way cool!!!!

Enjoyed more Sit-downs this time.

WE still did the commando pace since it was a short trip (3 parks yesterday :Pinkbounc )

Enjoyed the EMH until midnight strolling at our own pace taking in all the little things.

Have fun!!!

I honestly felt very distressed upon first getting off the plane w/o having all the STUFF. It was an odd sensation. All I had was a tiny purse! It was soooooooo liberating to not have an extra 15-40lbs on me at any time!

So, I'm sitting here thinking about this while DH watches the Superbowl.

The first one that comes to mind for me is:

To buy a Dole Whip Float and not have to share any of it!!!

ISN'T THAT THE TRUTH!!!!!

I get to do this a few times a year too! I absolutely love going by myself. I also feel tiny pangs of guilt without my son, but I get over it fast when I get going. I usually end up calling my DH at a park so I can tell him about my experience while there.
-I love doing the rides my family doesn't like as much as I do.
-I love eating and drinking my way around the WS, (I would add a margarita and a glass of french wine to your list).
-I am weird that I don't enjoy fine dining by myself. Occasionally I can get one of my co-workers to join me in the parks, then I dine, but more often than not they do not want to pay admittance for just a couple of hours in the park (I have an AP). Munching at the stands around the WS works perfect for me.
-I like offering to take pictures for people.
-I like to wander slowly and go in all of the shops!
-I like closing down Epcot and walking the boardwalk and getting a micro beer and the hummus appetizer at Big River (?) on my round-about way back to my resort. Bellying up to a bar I have no trouble with by myself, but night clubbing at PI is right out for me.
I really hope I get to do this again soon, writing all of this has gotten me in the mood to go again!

Enjoy yourself and do anything want to do!! :cheer2: :cool1:

I'm not telling DS2, he wouldn't understand why he couldn't go. But for DD10 and DH, I'm taking a shopping list of all of the things that they want me to bring back for them!

If your daughter is young enough to slip it by her then I wouldn't worry but, if she is old enough to understand if someone accidentally says something in front of her... You might be better off to tell the truth and bribe her heavily to keep her from being mad at you!!! It might be worse on her if she finds out after the fact or from someone else. But, of course, I don't know what your situation is and keeping it from her may be the best option (like me with DS!!!).

I love the Segway idea that several have mentioned, I may have to look into doing that!!

My daughter is 8 and Disney is her favorite place on earth so keeping the trip a secret from her for now is the best option. I will probably tell her where I am going a few days before I leave and bribe her heavily with gifts to bring back for her.

Funny, I wonder if it is the same conference?? I actually signed up for extra workshops that are on Monday!

If you look at doing the tours make sure you check to see if you qualify for any discounts. AAA, APs, and DVC all have discounts. If you are not a AAA member it might be worth it to go ahead and sign up.

Last time I was there I saw that there is a AAA lounge in Magic Kingdom (near Space Mountain). I asked someone about it and they said that it is air conditioned and they provide free refreshments!!! That alone is worth the membership fee!! I plan on checking it out next week!

Actually our conference is in St Augustine, a few hours north, but since I was going to be flying into Orlando, I took 2 personal days and flew up 2 days earlier so I could do WDW solo for the first time. I never thought of the tours, but I booked the Keys tour today! Thanks for this thread, or I might never of thought of that. Enjoy your solo time....I know I will. :)

I haven't read all the replies, but Jellyrolls is a mustdo if you don't have the kids.

My DH and I went Oct 2004 w/o our kids for the first time. They are grown, but still missed them :cool1: Anyway, my DH had been gone for 2 mos for an AF school, and missed our 24th, so we deserved it

We had a blast!

1. Make Fantasmic ressies at the Brown Derby at MGM. This gives you an awesome meal in a fun Hollywood atmosphere, and preferred seating at the water show - it was FANTASMIC :cheer2:

2. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast a time or two - it's amazing how much you have time for when there are only two of you.

3. Skip the park with the EMH - it is always the most crowded. Go to one of the other ones and you'll spend less time in line, you'll get more magic hours that way!

4. Horse and carriage ride at MK

5. Don't forget to let yourself be kids :Pinkbounc

I don't have kids but if my boss would send me to WDW I would be so excited I don't know if I could keep myself from jumping up and down like a crasy person. Wow are you going to have fun. Make ADR's at places you want to enjoy but could not because of majordy over rules.
