I may as well start this. We just got home late last night and I am SHOT!! I'm starting this instead of catching up on laundry and bills like I should!

We were at WDW from 7/31 to 8/7. We stayed in a pirate room at CBR and had the DxDP. My son is 8 1/2 and has autism. We did use a GAC on this trip, though not for every ride. For the first time ever at any park anywhere we did not get him a stroller. We figured we'd try it and if he got tired at the end of the day or towards the end of the trip we'd get one. We ended up getting through it just fine.

We had an amazing trip despite some stares and rude comments, and a bit of a fight between DH and I.

Just so you know, my son is overall moderate functioning, lower in some areas, higher in others. He is verbal but not conversational. He can make simple requests for wants/needs and answer simple questions. He needs to be spoken to slowly and sometimes you need to rephrase what you say a few times. His auditory processing is SLOW and his comprehension is as well. He's very bright though academically, very affectionate and LOVES theme parks! He's a thrill ride junkie!

I didn't take pictures of the food sorry, but I will comment and give reviews.

We were at WDW last year 8/16-8/23 during free dining. This year we got a PIN for free dining so we went earlier. The crowds were significantly less this year than when we went last year. We did use the GAC but probably only half the time. There were many occassions, even on major/popular rides, that we just didn't need one. My son's limit is 15-20 minutes before it gets ugly so in the morning we try any line 20 minutes or less, later in the day we go to 15 minutes or less. I was shocked to find so many lines that we were able to get on stand by!

Hey!
I was at Disney the same time as you. I went 7/28 - 8/4 & I stayed at CBR, too, but not in a pirate room.
Glad to hear you had a fun time, I had fun, also. :)

We arrived at CBR around 11am on Saturday 7/31. Our room was ready! We were in Trindad South in room 3431. The pirate rooms are awesome. My son loved it and so did we. The only thing that got annoying was the fridge being in the barrel. It just drove us nuts for some reason. Our room overlooked a courtyard area and was very nice. The bus stop was close. We had a car and I only rode the bus once to meet my husband and son at TL, but it was close.

There was a cute little surprise on the table in the room from the Disney Florist. I got so excited because I thought DH sent it for my birthday (which is tomorrow but we couldn't stay until then). It was for someone else. I called Bell Services and someone was at our room in about 5 minutes to pick it up. I hope those people had not checked in yet so that little girl got a nice surprise.

We threw our stuff in our room and headed off to MK. We all started off with a beloved Dole Whip Float that did not disappoint.

Later on we stopped at the Golden Oak Outpost. My son got the chicken nuggets and took half a bite and wouldn't eat anymore. He did like the fries though. My DH and I thought it would be a good idea to split the Chicken BLT Flatbread. Very messy and hard to split, but very good. I would get it again.

We seemed to just trip over characters all trip which was nice. We walked up by SM and there were Woody and Jessie, and very little line. Later on we walked up and got to see Jasmine in just a few minutes.
Here is Jessie telling my son she likes his hair. She also gestured to me and when I said "you like his hair?" both her and Woody gave a thumbs up. They were so cute and very interactive!

We had dinner at CRT. I dressed my son up like Prince Charming. He was PC for Halloween a few years back and we got the idea to dress him up for this dinner. The costume had to be made for him. We changed him in a bathroom by the Fantasy Garden and as we walked through the park people were loving it! We also made him ride the carousel and try to pull the sword from the stone. I thought for sure being dressed like that he'd get to pull it out!

My DH and both had the salmon crabcake and loved it!! I had the prime rib and though my piece was very fatty. I also couldn't believe I only got 4 little stalks of asparagus! DH had the Herb Rubbed Chicken and loved it. My son had a hot dog. We barely touched our desserts because we were going to the Fireworks Dessert party. My son ate his ice cream sundae though. The chocolate cream cheese buckle was just okay. DH like the berry sorbet.

The fireworks dessert party was nice. Loved the raspberry lemonade but would have killed for a coke!! The desserts were good but somethings were warm and mushy not long after it started, it was so hot. I hear people rave about the Mango shooters. I personally hated them. Not my thing. So unless you know you like mango, taste it before you take a big suck on that straw!!
The view from our table. We were in the first row of tables on the rail.

Our view after stepping up to the rail. Unfortunately we were next to a very rude, disgusting and obnoxious teenager on one side. The girls on the other side were great though so it balanced out

I think that wraps up our first day.

Characters met: Cinderella, Snow White. Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Woody, Jessie, Jasmine.

Depending on the meeting circumstances, we would usually tip off the characters about the autism. With non talking characters I just send my son up, snap a few shots, pose my kid, thank the characters and call him back over. Face characters usually get a quick mention of it. Some of them were great and just kept talking to him as if he were answering. Some said "oh okay" posed for the picture, were patient while we got a good one, and we moved on. As you'll read later on Mary Poppins is the BEST!!!! She was amazing with my son.

Cool!! I'll have to check out your trip report. I love reading them. Writing them, I'm finding out is a long process and lots of work! But fun!

We started our second day off with breakfast at Chef Mickey's. We got our table fairly quickly. The food was just okay, your basic breakfast buffet, nothing overly impressive. The characters came over, we ate, took pictures and got out of there. Glad we did it once but will probably not do it again in the future.
There is a duck called Quacker Jack that is the mascot for a local baseball team. Paul loves him and is fascinated with his beak. Quacker Jack is much taller than Donald so my son could reach up and touch is beak but never quite grab it. Well, he grabbed Donald's beak and as my husband went get him, Donald reached over and grabbed my son by the ear. I was taking pictures and was sort of cluelessly just clicking away. It wasn't until after hearing it from DH and seeing the pictures did we realize what happened.
donald.jpg

Even after that we still got a decent shot of them together.

We headed off for Blizzard Beach. My Dad and StepMom were driving up from West Palm to meet us. We haven't seen them in a year so they were going to spend the day with us. We rented a Polar Patio since my stepmom has bad knees and we thought she'd spend most of the day there. Luckily she was able to do a lot with us in the park
patio.jpg

We had lunch brought over from Lottawatta Lodge. I seriously think the water park food is the worst. the burgers are totally tasteless and need lots of salt, pepper and ketchup to be edible. My son's pizza looked nauseating, and the chicken wraps were barely edible.

After that we went to MK. We got there in the middle of an insane storm. The monorail wasn't running so we had to wait for a boat. We were really late for our ADR at The Plaza but they sat us anyway. We just had to wait a long time for a table. I had the Chicken Strawberry Salad and LOVED it. I can't believe how much gorgonzola was on there. I ate the whole thing. YUM! My husband had the reuben and loved it as well. My son devoured his grilled cheese sandwich. We both had the delicious cheese cake for dessert and my son had the Mickeylodeon. We all left very happy and satisfied.

Characters we met today: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Goofy

nice updates. :)
I met Jessie on my trip also, she's one of my favorites! and your son looks adorable in his prince costume!

I'm in and enjoying your report! My DD, age 7 1/2, also has autism and is a red head. We stayed in CBR this past March and in 2009. Your son makes an adorable Prince Charming!!

Thanks. He looked really cute when he was 5 too. I don't think a typical 8 year old would let me get away with this but my son was a trooper about it. He loves getting dressed up and thought he was pretty cool!

Thanks! I'm still not sure how we got the red headed kid but I love it. His hair changes color throughout the year from a dirty blond to a real bright strawberry blonde. It also depends on the lighting.

Day three was spent at AK. Incredible day!! I think it would be amazing for any kid to do what my son did today, but even more special and amazing for a child with autism.

First off, you gotta love the early pre-opening ADRs. I love getting in the park when hardly anyone is there, getting nice pictures and not having crowds. It was so nice. The only people we saw the entire time we walked from the gates up until Tusker House were Photopass photographers and random CMs. We were happy to find the Photopass people and get these 2 shots! I really wanted the Simba shot and wasn't sure if we could get my son to do it. With no line waiting behind us, we were able to take the time to get him to hold his arms the right way and smile at the same time. Trust me, this was no easy task, took about 20 shots and a good 5 minutes of time. But we got it!!!

ak2.jpg

We loved Donald's Safari Breakfast at Tusker House. I thought the selection of food was great, and some different dishes than other breakfast buffets. And the juice that I had heard so much about, I drank about 10 glasses!! I couldn't get enough of it. Amazing, refreshing and just delicious. That alone made this meal worth while!!
My son even got up to dance around with the little parade Mickey leads. My son LOVES music and instruments and will dance to anything. These little dancing parades are so up his alley. We just have to keep a close eye because he will wander away from the line of kids and may even stop to help himself to something interesting on a table any where in the restaurant. I was happy to see the parade stay right in our little area and not go around the entire restaurant.
ak3.jpg

We went on the Kiliminjaro Safari then headed out to the Conservation Station. We were in the building about 30 seconds when out came Jiminy Cricket. My son was so happy to see him.
ak4.jpg

I ran over to another line and it was HUGE. I thought it was for Rafiki but it was for Pocohontas. My son really didn't care about meeting Pocohontas so I asked where the line was for Rafiki. I could see him but not see a line. It was between 2 rocks but there were only 2 people there. I just couldn't believe how lucky we were getting with those lines. Last year we avoided a lot of character meetings because the lines were always so long.
ak5.jpg

My son LOVES those drums set up in Africa. We can never pass them without him going around and playing everyone that is there. There happened to be a little drum class going on and my son got right in there with the other kids. Unusual for him but hey, drums and music were involved. He didn't exactly play what the African drummer was teaching the kids to play but you couldn't tell, and he looked so cute up there. He's in the back with his floppy hat.
ak6.jpg

From there we decided to go watch The Festival of The Lion King. My son loved it last year and I remember them taking kids from the audience. The kids didn't have to do a whole lot other than play an instrument and walk around the stage area doing it. We figured if he got picked he could handle it. I got so excited when a CM started walking over our way and then he leaned over and talked to the little girl in front of us wearing a birthday button. :( He wished her a happy birthday and invited her to participate. She said no. :woohoo: :yay: The CM then looked up at my son and asked him. I whispered to my son "want to go dance?" and he jumped right up and went off with the CM. He did okay but needed some gentle guidance on when to walk and when to stop because he just wanted to dance around the entire theater. The CM with him in green was amazing and just took him by the hand and led him through it all. Last year I saw them choose a child in a wheelchair and the CMs pushed the child around the theater, so I didn't think it was a big inconvenience for them to hold my son's hand and walk him. He can't be the only child that ever needed help with this right? Here is my son in the show.

At that point we went back to Tusker House for the lunch buffet. I though it was terrible. I thought the variety of food was limited and what I did taste was terrible. I ended up eating corndog nuggets off the kid's buffet!

After that we headed to ride EE. DeVine was moving around in the bushes. I wanted to see her so bad since I didn't know about her last trip. Thought she was cool and creepy all at the same time. A few minutes after we got to where she was, she started coming out of the bushes and walked off to leave. My son was a bit freaked out and latched on to DH for dear life. As we were walking we saw Flik down in a character spot and there was only one other kid there. A CM was halfway down the trail. My son started running down there and then Flik started walking up. Guess he was just going to leave and I called to my son to come back because it was "closed." We tell him something is "closed" when we can't do something because he accepts that better than words like no, not now, later. It just avoids a big meltdown. The CM waved him down and we got our pictures.
ak10.jpg

We had to make a point to see The Tropicals. They are the band that plays right outside the Finding Nemo show. The Tropicals ROCK!!! My son loved them so much last year that we went back to AK a second day that trip just so he could see them. He danced right up next to them and made himself the 5th member. We knew that this year we had to make a point of seeing them. We got to their area a little early, so we walked a little further and had a nice frozen lemonade in front of DinoLand while we waited. As soon as the music started my son jumped up. My son went over to watch and my husband took a few steps back to be out of the picture. My son lunged forward and grabbed one of the drummer's cymbals. Excitement just takes hold of him sometimes and what little self control he has goes out the window. My husband went over to grab our son and before he did, the drummer handed my son one of his drum sticks and let him play. He played the cymbal and the drum and just tapped away however he wanted. The guy let him do this for about 5 minutes. My husband finally stopped him when he stopped drumming and figured out he could spin the cymbal with his finger. He had so much fun, he was so happy after that. We were beyond thrilled because last year, him dancing with the Tropicals was one of our highlights!

We walked around some more and decided to catch the parade. We found an awesome primo spot and 10 minutes later, they called the parade off due to weather. BUMMER! My son loved that parade last year. If anyone has a kid that watches Nick Jr, and you've seen the little musical clip called Papa Moco Jumbi about the stilt walker, that is my son's favorite song right now. I couldn't wait for him to see the stilt walkers but oh well. What can you do? We went into ITTBAB instead since a CM told us that Kali, EE and everything in Dinoland were shut down as well.

We had dinner at Yak & Yeti. For appetizers we tried the pork egg rolls and the wok fried green beans. We loved both. I had the shrimp tempora and really enjoyed it. DH had the steak and shrimp and left nothing on the plate. My son got chicken bites and chicken fried rice on the side and barely ate. He ate some of the green beans appetizer but that was it. His appetite had been off for the past few weeks anyway so we weren't concerned. For dessert DH and I both had the fried wonton dessert and both ate every last bit. My son had his usual ice cream sundae. The kids menus and desserts are so boring everywhere!

We were done with everything by 7pm and it was an EMH night. We could have played until 10pm. We wanted to ride EE in the dark but didn't feel like hanging around for 2 hours until it got dark. We were tired from the heat and not up to walking around to the things that were open for EMH. We went back to the hotel. I rested and DH took our son down to the cool pool at CBR! They were down there until about midnight.

Characters we met today: Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Mickey, Jiminy Cricket, Rafiki, Flik

My DD loves those drums at AK too!!! I have a picture much like yours of her playing them. We can rarely get her to look at the camera. :sad1:

i caught up on your updates.
I love The Festival of the Lion King, it's such a good show! :)

She's adorable. My son is getting better about looking at the camera. If he hears the beep he looks and gives his horrible fake smile so now it's getting harder to get candid shots of him. When doing something like playing those drums I'll loudly say "Paul, are you having fun?" And he'll turn and smile at me. I always say his name first because otherwise he doesn't realize I'm talking to him. LOL He ignores me even when I do, and most of the time intentionally, just like father!

We started off early with the Princess breakfast at Akershus in Norway. My DH wasn't thrilled that I booked yet another princess meal with no daughters to bring but I think he's sold now. I have him convince that it doesn't matter who the characters are, book an early ADR and get in before the park opens. You get cool pictures, and even if the park is open by the time we are done, we are all ready in the park, not waiting online to get in, and for a kid with autism, not starting the day that way is a plus. We also rent a car so getting there that early also gets us close parking. That's a big bonus at the end of the day!

I love getting shots like this

The breakfast was nice. I liked the way it was part buffet, part served family style. They were very quick about bringing over more hot food when my husband and son devoured all the bacon and eggs. We would do this breakfast again, even without characters. I liked the building too. It was very pretty inside, nice atmosphere. The princesses there were Belle, Aurora, Snow White, Ariel, and Cinderella. I won't post them all but these are my 2 favorite
My son was totally loving Cinderella
e33.jpg

I do actually have a picture of my son with Ariel and he's looking at me and smiling but this was a cute picture. After taking the nice smile pose, Ariel asked my son (who is basically non-conversational but can answer simple questions) "do you like to swim?" He answered "yes" and she asked "are you a good swimmer?" My son said yes (which he is, he's an amazing swimmer), and I jumped in and said "he's such a good swimmer we think he's a merman." She was so cute. Her face lit up and she got all excited and said something like "oh my with you being a good swimmer and having red hair just like me, you must be my brother." And she gave him a big hug. She was awesome and we loved the moment although I'm not to sure how crazy my son was about the hug. LOL
e5.jpg

After breakfast we headed back into Future World and decided what rides we wanted to tackle before lunch at Le Cellier at 1pm. The boys went on Mission Space which I can't do. I did the orange track with them last year and did not feel right for the rest of the day. I passed and went shopping instead. After that we were heading over to the Nemo ride and I made them stop at Club Cool. BAD MOMMY!! BAD BAD MOMMY asked the boy if he was thirsty then handed him a cup of Beverly. Look at what I did to my poor baby! :rotfl: :rotfl2: sorry but his reaction was comical
e111.jpg

e222.jpg

We went on some more rides and headed off to LeCellier. The pretzel bread lived up to the hype. I also liked the sour dough. I didn't get to try the multigrain one, my DH ate it all. I had the tomato stack, and while I enjoyed it, I must say I expected more from reviews I had heard of it. I had the mushroom filet with the risotto. I kept debating on getting the mashed potatoes instead and couldn't decide so I went with the risotto. It was amazing. The filet just melted in my mouth!! For dessert I had the smores and was really disappointed. I took 2 or 3 bites and passed it off to my son who barely touched it. My DH had the cheddar cheese soup and loved it. He had the house burger and said it was good, but I could tell he wasn't impressed. He had the chocolate mouse and loved it. My son had the cheese soup and barely touched it, the steak and fries and ate about half and for dessert he had a fruit cup and most of my smores. We would definately eat there again, but now with the new dining plan options, if we had the plan we'd do lunch for 1 TS credit. I liked having lunch their because after that we head off around the World Showcase and hoped to be done in time for our dinner ADR at The Rose and Crown Pub.

We headed out and around the World Showcase. I really wasn't feeling well. I started feeling sick the night before and was sure I had a fever at this point. I usually get sick a few days after flying. My immune system in compromised due to my rheumatoid arthritis meds so I pick up everything. I wasn't sure I wanted to trek around the showcase in that heat not feeling well, but I really wanted to get a picture with Aladdin and Beast. I figured we'd start and could always turn back. We did well with characters. We could see Belle and Beast out from a distance and I told DH to run ahead and get online for us. I was slow moving at that point. When he got there they had closed the line which still had about 15 people on it when Belle and Beast were leaving for a break. I stopped to take a picture of them as they walked away and Belle looked right at me and smiled. I didn't realize my son had run up ahead towards them until he appeared in my view on my camera. I thought "cool, he'll be in the picture with them." He reached out and pulled on Beast's cape. I was about 15 feet away and my DH was still on the line. Beast pulled away and shook his finger at my son and DH came running over. I apologized as they walked away and didn't have a chance to tell them he has autism and was probably just fascinated by the big cape flapping around as he walked. He wasn't trying to pull it off or cause a "wardrobe malfunction." He was just stimming!! They handler said they'd be back in a while but I was embarrased and didn't want to see what would happen if we came back for a photo op.I really wanted a picture of me with Beast but hey, you can't have everything right? Here's some of the character shots we got
e8.jpg

Mary Poppins was awesome. She kept talking to my son like he was answering her, and he wasn't. Finally she asked "where is your smile?" He made a fake smile and pointed to his teeth. I saw her smile a real smile (like she finally got through to the kid) and then she pointed to her smile to show him hers. It was really cute

e11.jpg

We hit Japan and needed a break. Kaki Gori.........YUM YUM YUM. I could have eated one of each flavor. It's on my "must have" list for next time!

We skipped Snow White in Germany because we had seen her twice in 3 days and I just wanted to get back to Future World and on something air conditioned. The Ellen ride was sounding good to me!

Then my son found yet another drum he had to stop to play. The kid cannot pass a drum
e12.jpg

We finished the World Showcase and decided to stop at the bathrooms right next to the little bridge by Canada. We came out and it was drizzling. We decided to head over to Soarin' and halfway there the skies opened up and we got soaked from head to toe. It was horrible for me because feeling sick the last thing I needed was to be wet and in air conditioning. We left puddles every time the line moved for Soarin and the ride was painfully cold for me. I was going to buy a new shirt but my shorts, underwear, socks and shoes would still be wet and I probably wasn't going to find all those things, or those things in my sizes at Epcot, so I suffered. It was horrible.

It was time for us to head to the Rose and Crown. Off Kilter was playing in Canada so we watched them for a bit and then I went ahead to R&C to check in. It was 6:55 and our ADR was for 7:05. I talked to the wonderful CM there and told them I know everyone is coming in asking for a table on the patio. I told him I wasn't feeling well, was soaking wet and really could not deal with sitting in the AC. I didn't care if we were outside in a spot where we couldn't see Illuminations because we knew we could go to their other patio to watch, but to please not put me in the AC, as long as I had a Scotch Egg and Fish & Chips I'd be happy. He asked "you already know what you're having?" I told him we ate there last year and I have known since the day I booked our trip and made the ADR 4 months ago what I was eating that night. He gave me a buzzer and told me that British Invasion was starting soon, to go enjoy the show and they'd beep me. 30 minutes went by and finally our buzzer went off. The timing was great because my son loved British Invasion, and didn't realize that it was way past his dinner time and that he should be tired and cranky. It also meant there was less time that I would have to entertain him between dinner and Illuminations.

We were escorted to our PRIMO table with an amazing view of the lagoon. DH and I both ordered the same thing, Scotch Egg and Fish & Chips and we both finished everything. I didn't see grilled cheese on the menu for kids but the table next to us had a grilled cheese so I asked and sure enough my son ended up with a grilled cheese. We both had sticky toffee pudding, which came out second before Illuminations started, and my son had ice cream. He was more into making his own little sundae and dipping his banana chips in his chocolate syrup than he was into watching the show!
Not bad huh?
e13.jpg

It was an EMH evening and we really planned on finishing up a few rides we had left undone, hoping to do at night, but I was really feeling crummy. I could feel blisters starting from my feet rubbing around in wet socks and shoes and I really needed to get some sleep before I ended up REALLY sick. Our really close parking spot came in VERY handy this evening and I was even more appreciative of the before opening ADR at that very moment. We went back to the hotel and I took a hot shower. The boys went off to the pool.

Next post will be about day 5. We had to go to Melbourne to see a doctor for my son, then we hit TL and DTD. I'll try to do that report tomorrow

It sounds like you had an amazing time! I have JRA (which cracks me up--I am 65, but was diagnosed at 12.) and I understand about catching everything!! I hope you were able to rest and recoup really quickly so the rest of your trip was just as magical.:grouphug:

Day 5 started for us with a trip to Melbourne, the real purpose of our trip to Florida this year. We took our son to see an autism doctor there. We saw him at 9am and were back at WDW by noon. We changed quick and headed over to Typhoon Lagoon!

My husband and son went ahead of me as I wasn't feeling that great. They had to park off in Never Neverland up on some grassy hill that was marked Cast Member Parking. Glad I wasn't there for that walk, my feet were already killing me from the first 4 days. They had no trouble getting in. Our umbrella/chairs that we rented were not ready. I rented them because we knew we'd be getting to the park late and the CM who took our ressie said that even if the park closed for capacity, we'd be let into the park because of the reservation. I know other CMs on here said that wasn't true but we reserved chairs/umbrella at BB and were told the same thing. Even when we changed it from chairs to a Polar Patio they confirmed that info. Anyway it didn't matter because they had no problem getting in.

When I got there we got lunch at Leaning Palms. I said it before and I'll say it again, water park food is THE WORST. Greasy, tasteless and disgusting. DH and I both got the double cheese burger and thanks to lots of napkins used to blot off the grease, then tons of ketchup, salt and pepper, we made it somewhat edible. My son choked down his nuggets.
Here's a couple of shots from the day.
tl3.jpg
tl4.jpg

We went back to our room and cleaned up, then headed to DTD. We had a ressie at T-Rex thanks to this board. I couldn't get a ADR through Disney but was easily able to get one by calling them directly. We checked in a few minutes early and were seated within 10 minutes. We loved the place. My son was a bit freaked out by the meteor showers and the little dinosaur right next to our table that moved at first. By the time our meal was over, he loved it.
tr1.jpg

We had the Supersaurus Sampler and loved it. Everything on there was delicious and there was plenty for the 3 of us to share. For dinner I had the Triassic Tortellini and was pleasantly surprised by it. It was delicious and way more than I could eat. My DH had Cretacous Chicken Fried Steak and loved it. He couldn't finish his either, and believe me, the man can eat. The steak was huge!! My son had the Cheesy Macaroni and finished it, which was rare for any meal this trip. We skipped on dessert because we were just too full. Plus I wanted to go over to Goofy's and get a snack later on.

We went over to go on a Characters In Flight balloon ride but there was a storm approaching and it wasn't flying at that time. They told us to keep an eye out because they were flying until 11pm. If we saw the balloon go up and down more than once, they were back to flying. We did some shopping, played with the Potato Heads and my son built his own light saber. By the time we saw the balloon it was 10:45 and we were all the way over by Goofy's Candy Co. and didn't think we'd make it over there in time. So we just finished up our shopping and headed home. We didn't get a snack because were still so full but we did have slushies. I can't remember the name of them but they were basically slushies and we all had the blueberry. We had a lot of frozen slushy drinks this trip and these were second best only to the Coke ones we got in DHS.

I was VERY disappointed in the selection of ornaments in the Christmas store, and merchandise in general all over. I was really shocked not to see more Jessie themed stuff for girls since Toy Story 3 had only been out a few weeks. It was a nice relaxing down day though, and we needed it.

Just a few more shots from DTD:

My son loved this musical group. He kept saying "that man looks like George Washington."

I love this shot

My son, who has had severe sensory issues in the past, is getting more accepting of things like band aids, wrist bands and things like that. We decided to try an airbrush tattoo. He not only sat for it but kept it on until it wore off. I'm so proud of him!

Sorry it's been so long. Things get crazy when my son's summer program ends. I'm not sure if anyone is reading this anyway. :lmao:

Anyway, day 5 was Hollywood Studios Day for us.

We got there and hit Tower of Terror and Rock N Rollercoaster first, then headed over to Sci Fi for a 11am reservation. We wanted to do Sci Fi, 50's Prime Time and Mama Melrose (Fantasmic package) and had a tough time squeezing it in without eating SERIOUSLY too much. The FP times are horrible and really screw up a day. We made it to Sci Fi and MM, but had to skip 50's PT. We tried twice to get into the Beauty and the Beast show and got there too late. The last show was a must and wouldn't be over before we had to be at 50's PT, so I didn't get to eat at my choice. Oh well.

So we get to Sci Fi and the place is nearly empty!

We all loved it, thought it was really cool and would eat there again. My husband and I both had the Reuben and enjoyed it. Nothing out of the ordinary but delicious and we'd get it again. My son had Mac & Cheese and practically licked his plate clean. Guess it was good because he's picky about his pasta. We actually skipped dessert knowing we had to be at MM at 3:35.

My son got so excited to see Mr. Incredible he walked right past Frozone.

When we got off the backlot tour, we lucked out and Sully was there! There were about 10 kids on line in front of us. The handler announced he was leaving in 10 minutes. I kept thinking "HURRY PEOPLE HURRY." When the 5 minute warning came there were still 3 people in front of us and I thought we were screwed. Finally the handler came over and asked how many in each group. There was 1 kid in front of us, my son, then a family with 3 or 4 kids. She said my son would be the last to see Sully, then Mike would come out. There were only 5 or 6 people behind us. I told my husband to go get on the end of the line so we could see Mike too because people were starting to walk over. Yeah, line holding/cutting, I got the idea from a lady ahead of us in line!

Last year when we went, there was never a line more than 5 or 6 to see Lightning and Mater, and the line was on the left near the pressed penny machine. Oh man were we surprised to walk up and see ropes set up and about 30 people waiting. The one positive thing about these guys, they don't take a break. The line took forever though. Thought for sure a melt down was coming but my boy did good!

Mama Melrose was great. I know it gets bad reviews but we love it there. We're from NY, are Italian and are really picky about our Italian food. There are certain dishes we know better than to order out unless it's a great restaurant. We go with the flatbreads. I got the pepperoni flatbread and my husband got the grilled chicken flatbread. Both were very good. The boy got penne with marinara and liked it. We were not very hungry, skipped dessert again, and were just happy to be sitting in air conditioning and drinking ice cold pomegranate lemonade. That seemed to be the big drink this year. Every place had it and it was better at some than others.

At some point in the day we went to Herbies and got a frozen Coca-Cola. Mmmmmmm......I was in heaven especially since I was running a low grade fever. I always get a bit sick when I travel on airplanes, so between the heat and the slight fever I wasn't happy. I was drinking and eating lots of frozen things.

Sounds like you had a great day at Hollywood Studios.
Sci Fi is a great restaurant, I love the movie clips they play on the screen.
Can't wait for more updates! popcorn::

Day 7 was a bit busy. We rearranged our plans a bit but this is how our day ended up.

Breakfast at Boma. Loved everything about it. The jungle juice is awesome but I still liked it best at Tusker House. Everything was delicous and the atmosphere was great.

We went back to the our resort and the guys went down to the main pool for a while. I got some packing done then headed down there myself. We also had lunch at the food court at Caribbean Beach. Never again. The service was so slow and the food was dreadful. My son got chicken nuggets and we both got double bacon greaseburgers. Yuck.
Here's some pictures from the resort/pool:

After lunch we headed over to AK. We had missed the parade the other day, and my son loves that parade. We also wanted to get another ride on EE. We didn't have a ton of time because we had reservations for the Hoop Dee Doo Review at 7:15.
We got to see the parade. My son LOVES stilt walkers and got so excited to see them! I think they noticed because 2 of them waved to him and one walked over. He was jumping up and down and pointing.

We got a frozen lemonade at Royal Anandapur Tea Company to cool off a bit then off to EE

Then it was off to Fort Wilderness with Phineas safely buckled in next to my son. This cracks me up because he did it himself.

We made it to Pioneer Hall and there must have been some confusion that night. We waited on one line, then were told to go wait on another. We spent 10 minutes on the other line when someone came around to check our tickets then told us we were on the wrong line, as were about 10 other people. Not a big deal but my kid was getting frustrated moving from spot to spot.

We had category 3 seats. Didn't care where we sat and if we go again, we'll get category 2 upstairs. CMs from the show actually came up and talked to us and we were the furthest table all the way down by the doors to the kitchen. We had a great view and my son loved the chair that swiveled around. I know the HDDR gets mixed reviews but we loved it in all it's musical corniness!! I thought the food was good too. I wasn't sure if my son would eat the standard food so I asked what was available as an alternative. They rattled off several options (I think they were mac & cheese, nuggets, and PB&J). We got my son mac and cheese and he loved it.

Well, as if that wasn't a busy enough day, we headed over to MK to catch the MSEP, which we hadn't had a chance to catch all week. We got there and found an awesome spot outside the Christmas shop. Sat there for 30 minutes when finally a CM came over and told us we couldn't sit there, it was the handicapped viewing area. UGH!! We had a GAC and probably could have stayed, but I wouldn't want to take up space from someone in a wheelchair, and my son likes to be upfront. We looked straight across and their was room so we just ran across the street and claimed a space on the ground there.

By the time the parade was over we were shot. We got on BTMRR twice in a row then the line went from 10 minutes to 60 while we were on it the 2nd time!!! There were long lines at the rides that were open and my son wanted to go on, and they were not accepting GACs at that time. I promised my son that in the morning, after breakfast with Pooh, the first ride he could go on was Splash Mountain. He was so upset that we couldn't go on, but the wait was 60 minutes and he was already borderline melting down.

Next update, our last day, and the Splash Mountain dilemma!

I'm enjoying your trip report a lot! Your son just sounds like a little trouper. So awesome how much he loves music!

My husband is autistic (Asperger's, but still -- there are so many difficulties!) so I can certainly relate some.
