I was just reading a post regarding the vile water at WDW last night and I cannot find it anywhere! I apologize for any duplicate posts.

To save money, we were originally planning on taking a bottled water for each of us and then refilling it throughout the week. But after hearing about the terrible tasting water, we are now rethinking this. Purchasing several bottles of water daily (I am a big water drinker) I'm sure will be pricey. Has anyone found that adding flavor to the water has helped the taste? We were thinking of getting the individual Kool Aid or lemonade mixes to add to the bottles. Has anyone tried this? Thanks!

Yes, Florida water has a high sulpher content and many people find the taste to be unpalatable, myself included. DH thinks it's all in my head and drinks it anyway but then he can pretty much eat or drink anything! I have found that the water is not quite as bad at MGM and AK for some reason but I can't stand the taste or smell at MK and EPCOT. Adding a slice of lemon helps some and this time I'm going to try the kool-ade packets. It beats dehydration!

Vile water? What vile water? We just returned from an 8 night/ 9 day stay at CBR. We didn't notice anything wrong with the water.

I hear many complaints on the taste of WDW water. It doesn't really bother me, but does seem to taste "worse" at MK.

We are trying the add in packets (Kool Aid, etc) for the 1st time next trip. My son isn't a water drinker, so hoping this will help.

We were "afraid" of the water before our first trip after hearing so many comments here, so we bought the Brita filter bottles and a HUGE, expensive fanny pack with side "holsters" to carry them. After two days of lugging those things all over the parks and having the condensation soak the front of my shorts (not a pretty sight!), the kids tried a fountain at MK and decided that the taste was quite bearable. My advice: have a plan in case your family doesn't like the water, but don't go overboard and spend a lot of money, just in case you're pleasantly surprised.

I bought the kool-aid singles for a trip to the zoo to try them out for WDW. They worked great. I am planning on bring a water bottle for each of us each time we go to the parks... drinking the water and then using the bottle to refill it with kool-aid or cyrstal light singles for me. They will be so easy to pack in the suitcase or to carry them in the parks.

:thumbsup2 I give them a thumbs up, they worked great.

:rotfl2: This sounds so much like me...

Its so funny you ask that because that is exactly what we did on our trip last week.

First of all I live in Florida but the water close to home tastes fine. So, I wouldn't say the water in Florida or even in southern FL has a high sulpher content. That odd taste is something I've only found at WDW parks.

Its drinkable, especially if you're really thirsty.

We took one bottle of unopened water into the park each day and shared (we're a family of four that have no problems swapping germs!) Multiple bottles of water can be really heavy to tote around when one person is doing the lugging. And since there are such long bag check lines, I recommend one bag per group that you can take turns carrying. My husband or I would go to the back check line while the other three would enter thru the "guests with no bags" entryway and grab a spot in line at the turnstyles.

Once the bottle was empty we refilled at fountians and added country time lemonade packets. We also brought lipton peach tea but we didn't like it as well. We went thru three or four a day and we bought cokes at lunch. On a return trip to MGM from our hotel, we knew we would be seeing fantasmic so we thru juice boxes and a can of coke in the backpack as well. When we headed into the show, DH picked up a turkey leg to share with DS and I bought a chocolate covered banana and toll house cookie ice cream sandwich to share with DD. Once we found our seats we had no problems staying entertained until the show started!

We bought the Crystal Light packets, to change the taste of the water, and the taste was fine, but I like my water cold, and it was kind of warm...

For the next trip we'll put bottles of water in the mini freezer, and hope it will stay cold in that Florida heat! :sunny:

I disliked the tap water at WDW. It smells and tastes pretty bad. In a restaurant, we did ask for ice water, and could drink it when it was first brought out to us. Later in the meal, when it was warmer I couldn't drink it. We were on the dining plan, and often got water bottles as drinks with CS meals and used snack credits for them. So it didn't feel like we were paying for them.

I brought mixer packets (Target's strawberry lemonade flavor :thumbsup2 ) but didn't like them warm in the parks. We only used them in the room, and kept them in the fridge.

experiment at home to see what flavors you like and if you can drink them warm or not. I'm sure it varies from person to person.

We drink the water at WDW - every trip with no problem. Though this time we are planning to bring the crystal light packets with us.

FYI: You can go up to ANY food place (and I have even gone up to the side of a busy restaurant) and ask for a glass of ice water. The CM's have no problem getting it for you - and it is FREE. :sunny:

I think there was a thread somewhere about ordering from staples.com and having cases delivered to your hotel...Let me see if I can find it again...I think you have to sign up for the club card (or whatever they call it) and you get free shipping. Even if you have to pay for shipping I am sure it beats buying 24 water bottles at 2.50 a pop = $60.00 :sad2:

Yeah, the Staples thing is a good deal. If you have a car, it is less expensive to hit a grocery store, but the Staples deal is pretty good.

WE find we can tolerate the water if we must. It's not the best water, but 'foul' is perhaps a bit strong. It's better than the heavily chlorinated water other parts of the country have.

You can add Crystal light packets - but the problems I had with them is that the flavor I bought was loaded with red dye. Just a tiny bit of that on your hand or clothes (as your trying to pour power from a jagged rip into a water bottle while walking) and you've got stains. Plus, I like diet soda, but the Crystal Light wasn't my favorite flavor. Besides that, to keep hydrated, the best thing by far is to drink plain water. To much caffeine or artificial sweetener almost negates the benefit of drinking the liquid.

If you've got a stroller, a few water bottles is no problem. If we go sans stroller, we just bring one or two bottles with us and refill them. I'm not a fan of losing time waiting in line for water, so we try to avoid it if we can. We try to get water with every meal. Drink as much ice water as we can at meal times, and at the end of the meal, pour the leftover water (or maybe juice) into a bottle. In a pinch, if you don't mind having warmer water, you can fill a bottle at any sink.

I have a sensitive stomach and nose, so the combination of the smell and tastes is HORRIFIC for me! I do think it is worse at MK for sure. It upsets my system something fierce and brings a whole to meaning to "don't drink the water"!!!
Now, my kids are just fine with it, so apparently some people are more sensitive than others.
Like someone else said, prepare yourself, but not to the point of bankruptcy!!

Good luck!! :thumbsup2
