Just wondering what the feeling is among college kids about disney. My son will be attending Princeton in the Fall, and among seniors at his high school, loving disney world isn't so cool. Personally, I think it is their immaturity speaking. My son doesn't care that he gets negative comments about visiting disney. I expect that kids in college will be more mature. thanks:)

I think students either really really love it or are extremely negative and against it (I've heard that our school actually had protestors at a College Program presentation a few years back).

After our first year of college, 2 friends and I went down to WDW without any shame. We're not afraid to admit that we like it. :) Heck, I work there. I wouldn't still be there if I didn't love my role and the place itself.

I think in high school it can be one of those totally uncool things, but once you hit college, everyone is independent and open to many different things, that it really is not an issue.

Hope this helps! :thumbsup2

I am probably one of the biggest Disney fans ever. I have done 2 CPs (about to do my third), want to work at Disney FT, and have done 2 solo trips there.

Seriously, it just depends on the people and the situation. I don't think you can generalize all colleges and their students into being ok with disney, or not being ok with disney. Personally, everyone I know likes Disney to some degree (not to the insane degree I do, but it's hard to love disney that much!).

I think the reason a lot of people in high school are so negative about it is because they have never been there or do not know what WDW is really about. A lot of my friends think WDW is strictly the characters and only have rides like Dumbo and It's a Small World. If your son enjoys WDW now I'm sure he will continue to love it while in college. Most people on these boards have been to WDW many, many times and a lot of us have worked there as well. We all LOVE Disney!!!!

I'm a guy in college, in a fraternity and I still love it. In college, you are free to enjoy whatever you like, if he loves disney, it will continue.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents... I am a guy in college, and I actually fell in love with Disney only after I was in college (a trip during freshmen yeared opened my eyes to how amazing the place is). So like everyone has said, there are ALL types of people in college and if your son has enjoyed trips to Disney he will surely find others who share that with him.

:) Thanks for all your responses! He has always been the kind of person who liked what he liked and didn't care what others thought. For instance, some kids in HS, aren't into Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings while he has always loved fantasy fiction.

Personally, I am a 46 year old attorney and mom of 3 and have loved Disney since I first visited in elementary school. The love for Disney World only gets stronger.

Good luck with college and your careers!

I am in college and still LOVE Disney! It's actually kind of funny because my junior year of high school we went to WDW over spring break, and my dad said that it would probably be the last time for a while that we'd be able to go. Well...that was 5 years ago, and since then, we've somehow managed to get in 5 more Disney trips (though not everyone went...my dad and I managed to get in 5 more Disney trips!). My sisters are a junior in high school and a sophomore in college and they both love Disney too. :)

I love Disney World...all things Disney! I mean...for my first tattoo I got a Disney tattoo! It's an ankle band with peace-love-Mickey Mouse on it....super cute...once I can post pics I will.

But yeah, one of my friends just graduated HS and she picked Disney World for her senior trip.

It really does just depend on the person...on whether or not they think it's "cool" or whatev.

I am going into my 4th year of college this year and still have an affinity for all things Disney. The reason I say funny you ask is that my DGF and I are both children raised on Disney movies and have the same obbsessions for them. Well I have been to DW twice now. I went my first time when I was 17 and then second when I was 19. She although has never gotten a chance to experience the happiest place on Earth. So when I supprised her with plans on arranging a trip for the two of us over Christmas I though she was going to have a panic attack with the amount of delight she showed. So an asnwer to your question, is YES! A definate YES! if need be. Disney has done nothing but good things for me and my college life style.

In best regards,
Floaton

It mostly depends on the situation and the friends he makes.
For me, no one really cares. My friends occasionally jokingly make fun of me for being such a disney addict, but it's all in a friendly manner.
Alot of my upperclassmen friends (and my sister) have taken trips to WDW with friends either during the summer or Spring Break... And my friends and I are already planning a trip to WDW for next year's Spring Break, so it can't be THAT uncool. :)

He loves Disney and Harry Potter, sounds like my kinda guy.

Okay, I'm done teasing. In all reality, as a college student, he will be fine. My friends do tease me in a jokingly way about my Disney obsession, but it never has gotten out of hand. Same with my Harry Potter obsession.

The thing is, there is always going to be someone who won't like you for your interests or who you are. It's impossible to make the whole world be on your side. It's really a waste of time and identity. The important thing is for him to be himself and that will guide him to future happiness.

Best of luck, and congrats on your son heading to college!

I'm sitting here at my college wearing a t-shirt with Mickey on it. :) Honestly, when you get to college, it doesn't matter if the others think it's cool... college (in my experience) helps you understand that it's "cool" to be yourself. Most people seem to understand that too.

Disney is cool at any age, I dont care who you are....

i love disney and in college, it people think it is childish that fine. I love disneyworld because it gives me the feeling of when I was little girl at christmas time.

Disney being cool is timeless. I'm in college and I love the parks, maybe more of the purely thrilling rides like the Rock N Roller coaster or Expedition Everest, which has the coolest story of any ride there! Disney is great, and frankly, the two Disney coasters make most other coasters i've seen look worthless.

I just recently graduated from college, and I'd like to parallel some of the sentiments voiced above. The magic of Disney is actually enhanced when traveling as a college student. You are free to go at your own pace, you can appreciate some of the "locales" a little differently. Being older I found myself appreciating the World Showcase and Pleasure Island/Downtown Disney a little more. It's especially wonderful if he got the opportunity to bring a friend from school, or an old friend from back home for a little more independence (the one thing that truly changes when you go to college: the need/desire for independence).

All in all, I think it's more magical being older, especially when your love of the parks has persisted throughout your early life; a truly nostalgic and simultaneously fresh experience.

All of my friends were jealous when I told them I was going to Disney World for spring break. I've seen a lot of their pictures from when they got the chance to go too, and all want to go back :) .
