Disney World or Disneyland

Both resorts have their fans, that's for sure.

I'm a WDW vet with 35 trips under my belt since 1971 who has been researching the Disneyland Resort. I was only at Disneyland once and that was back in 1965 when I was five, but we are planning an upcoming trip, and I am really looking forward to it. It looks like it will be a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to just being able to walk to the parks from reasonably economical accommodations. At WDW we've walked to the Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary, but you're talking big dollars for that.

I do have to say the WDW resort and Orlando area are amazing IMHO and have a huge appeal for us. Offsite owner home or timeshare owner condo rentals too are plentiful and a great value. Orlando has been overbuilt since 1971, which has means accommodations for a really great price (a great vacation value IMHO). Many of our Orlando trips were budget trips and were an absolute blast.

Is this a Disney only trip or are there other offsite things you are interested in doing too? That could influence your decision.

This is not really a question of which is better - it is a question of experiencing something different. Every Disney fan should experience DL if they have the opportunity.
Some unique highlights in DL:

Alladin The Musical
World of Color
Fantasmic - an amazing version with some unique twists.
Grizzly River Rapids
Matterhorn Bobsleds
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through exhibits
New Orleans Square
Blue Bayou restaurant
California Screamin'
World of Animation exhibits
Storyland Canal Boats
Alice in Wonderland
Pinocchio
Great and different parades
Cars Land - my god, see this at night, the beauty and themeing are spectacular.

I would love to one day get to DL. But being a Floridian born and raised WDW will always be my number one. I will visit DL at some point. But I see DL as Walt's first try and his "Florida project" as the manifestation he had dream and hoped for all along. An entire "world" of magic. I remember reading books how he hated that once you left the gates of DL you were surrounded by the un-magical, motel ridden Anaheim.
