Disney World and the War in Iraq

We won't be cancelling either. In fact I'm even considering adding a few more days to the 15 we will already be there. We haven't decided if we are flying or driving but that is just because of the cost of flying. Haven't been able to find a decent airfare yet.

Maybe we should all go ahead and plan another trip. Sounds great to me!

We're supposed to be leaving in 16 days. I have to admit, I'm nervous about possible terrorists attacks. The last time we were there, it was one month after 9/11 during all the anthrax stuff. Seems like something major happens when we decide to visit WDW! I guess we'll have to take a "wait and see" attitude.

I hope the terrorists don't read the dis boards. They'll think half the free world is in WDW and consider it a prime target!

I also saw on tv today that almost 1100 people a year die in their own bathtub. The speaker said if you choose to travel your getting the benefit of lots of experts and extra security, but your on your own when it comes to bath time. Just something to think about!

The high school I live near is having the senior trip to Disney. They're not cancelling.

And i don't think anyone else should either. You can worry all you want at your home but at WDW is a time to enjoy yourself and not worry. You can worry about the war just don't think about it 24/7. Everything will be fine. You can't enjoy yourself if yuo keep thinking about war. Just enjoy the magic and spnd time with your family. And have a darn good time at WDW.

I also heard on the news today that there is no fly sone in WDW or Disney land!!

We're staying at the Boardwalk Villas (or is that the Villas at the Boardwalk? I always get that confused).

I would love to meet up with other DIS-folks for a toast to, as eeyore0062 said, our wonderful country, our military, our freedom, and WDW.

We're thinking of doing a Monorail Cocktail Party on Wednesday, the 26th. Maybe we can meet up during that.....?

Our thoughts and prayers are with our men and women overseas and their familes at home.

We have plans to come in May and no way would I cancel our plans.

We also had plans to visit the week of the 9/11 attacks. Although our flight was canceled - we drove from Milwaukee to Orlando. We had the best time. The parks were virutally empty because everyone canceled their trips. There were no lines. It was amazing. By the end of the week the parks had started to fill up again, but mostly by florida residents who could drive.

I was very sad that our country was attacked, but I had invested too much time and money into our trip. Life goes on and I was much happier spending that week at Disney World instead of sitting at home with my kids watching the twin towers crumble over and over again.

I hope and pray that we are never attacked on our own soil again. In fact, I hope we go over there and kick their butts so that nothing like 9/11 can happen to us again.

I work in the travel industry also. I am encouraging clients not to cancel unless their flight is canceled. I doubt very much that the government will ever ground the planes again. Let's face it, the airlines are all going to go bankrupt if they do. However, if the airlines do get grounded they all have refund policies already in effect in case of any emergency.

I am still going. Nothing is going to stop me. See ya'll at the World!

My family will be arriving in Orlando on June 3rd as scheduled.
My son graduates from high school this May, and we are going to celebrate! I will not allow terrorists to ruin the idea of "freedom"
for my children. Terrorists win if we allow them to rule our lives!
I will continue to pray for my country, our soldiers, and our families! If our soldiers have the courage to fight for freedom, then my job is to enjoy the freedom they are fighting for!

Hi all,We are still planning to go in April/around easter.I am nervous too but I so need this vacation & my little one is really looking forward to the Disney Magic.We are driving though and we keep hearing reports about bridges etc..etc..I pray for all of our safety.Is anyone else driving?I just flew back from L.A. and felt safe at the airport.I just keep thinking about Disney World,it's so wonderful there.We all need some extra pixie dust during these times.

This is pretty much our plan...The 1st 2 days we have to take care of the business of moving down there.... apartment, job interview, etc.

Epcot Monday afternoon, eat at Cape May.

MK Tuesday afternoon, eat dinner at Kona Cafe.

BG-T Wednesday

MGM Thursday until about 3, then visiting friends at their house.

We leave on Friday

I hope we are able to meet up. I could kick myself... I packed up my Dizpin... so I will have to go look for lime green ribbon today! I will likely have it in my hair!!!

I still plan to go, but I guess living closer to the action is having more of an affect on us Wash./MD/VA/NY folks (and a few others). Today we just found out that we will be receiving "shelter-in-place" kits at our jobs here in the government. These are kits that will help us survive a biological attack should we be here when the attacks begin. I continue to countdown to my trip, but hate to think that this will cancel it. Our friends at the Pentagon received this gas/mask kits a couple of weeks ago. This is so real that it stinks!

Joyce, that in itself should be the biggest reason for you to get out of town!!! In NY we are having a hard time finding any supplies of bottled water. They have closed our underground parking because of the proximity to a HUGE federal building across the street from me.

You and I both survived 9/11 and we met in Disney that very next month to help support each other and I plan on seeing you there on May 3rd again.

Keep your hopes up, kiddo. This time, we are more prepared. We're not going to be easy targets ever again.

To all of us: Go to WDW, make magical memories, refresh your spirit and by all means, visit the American Adventure and the Hall of Presidents and maybe even attend the Flag Lowering Ceremony at MK to renew your patriotism.
