Disney wonder....won't let me pick a specific stateroom?!?

The majority of my cruises I have booked a 9c GTY, OGT or VGT. I've never been unhappy with my room, but I'm not fussy. Most cruises sell out so arguing at the port might by pointless. San Juan's not a huge seller, but they will offer GT rates and military rates and such. I don't how, but cruises always seem to be sold out by sail date. Deck 2 goes GTY pretty quickly. I'm sure they do this so they don't have party's of 2 booking rooms that sleep 4. It gives them more control over the inventory, and the can place people appropriately.
I don't know what category your looking at, but I do know going from a 9c or 9b to a verandah can be a pretty substantial chunk of change. If that's your dilemma I sympathize.

I think it's one of those cruises the OP is looking at. If he wants one of those cruises and to pick a room he'll have to choose and inside cabin.

Cruisefish is a bit misleading in those percentages. It only shows the percentage of categories that still have at least one room available. Not the percentage of rooms still available.

It's possible for a cruise showing 25% availability to have more rooms available than a cruise showing 70% availability.

It did not sell well in the past Sorry I can't predict the future. When we did this cruise in 2014 it was not sold out. I know our Hawaii cruise was gty in every cat and the ship was empty.

I know on our Hawaii cruise, the ship was full and they still eliminated one of the late dinner seatings on one rotation. That's because most rooms had only 1 or 2 people in them, not the 3 or 4 (family) groups usually booked. The ship was "full" (all rooms sold) but had fewer people onboard.

My Alaska cruise in 7 weeks has not gone up in price since opening day. It shows only 24% availability. The fact that the cruise never went up in price leads me to believe there were still a lot of rooms left before the PIF date. I tend to to look at price hikes to determine how well a cruise is selling.

As far as Hawaii goes half the ship was cast members. I think that's a pretty good indicator they sold out the rooms the last couple of months. I'm sure that is why they haven't returned to Hawaii.
Like I said previously most cruises will sell out eventually. I'm sure they will find a way to sell the remaining rooms on my Alaska cruise.

Bumbershoots has great advice. We always choose deck 10 on Dream and Fantasy, and deck 8 on Wonder and Magic. There is quite a bit of noise from the deck above (chairs moving, etc..).

I wear earplugs, and have a small white noise machine (one that plugs in, and does not run on batteries... they would not last).

Please don't stress! You may get an upgrade!

I don't think it's possible to tell that. I do think once it goes gty it stays that way even if a lot of people cancel. I could be wrong on that. On opening day are all the rooms available or do the hold some back? Another interesting question. I've gotten gty rooms in really good locations. I always assume I've gotten a room someone else cancelled.

About 45 days ago the Concierge was sold out except for HA but from time to time I see 1-2 rooms open up and then disappear. As of right now only ocean view and inside remain - they are showing only 1 -2 rooms available in the Ocean View and Inside cabin category to choose from and another level of OV is Gty. No rhyme or reason, but it seems to me that availability is in short supply.

The heat was pretty oppressive on our Southern Caribbean cruise in June, also.

Just random things I have heard or read on the DIS - when there is a large inventory of rooms, they may not all appear as available when you check the website online. If you want to check for further availability you should call directly. They have fluidity in how they assign the GTY cabins due to the number of people who wait until the PIF date to cancel or change plans/rooms -hence the timing of GTY assignments. Wish I knew how they determine when to price a category as GTY. But I like knowing our room assignment and having flexibility to change it!

I think they did price the January 2018 southern Caribbeans right... I booked the January 28th 7 night southern B2B with the February 4th 4 night eastern from San Juan to Port Canaveral in a category 5A for just a little more than our October 2015 7 night eastern on the Fantasy in a category 4A.

I too have noticed that only ocean view and inside staterooms remain and those are in short supply. Also, the prices on the remaining categories have increased significantly since opening day.

You might try Travelocity to see what's available in cabins if you want to choose. I recently couldn't find any cabins in my category for viewing on DCL website, jumped over to Travelocity and they still showed availability in my category.

Odds are it was sheer luck. When I had booked a GTY because I kept flipping around so that the cabin I LOVE was in GTY status I asked to put that on the reservation and was told by multiple reps (I called more than once after getting the response the first time) that that request is not looked at for guaranteed reservations as part of booking a guarantee is saying that you will take that category or any above it. (I did NOT get my desired category and HATED the deck 5 verandah cabin I got put in - I know, I'm weird...most people would have LOVED it.)
