Trying to book a cruise but it won't let me pick a specific stateroom. Only classes on the Disney Wonder leaving from San Juan.

Your Stateroom Is Guaranteed
Because you have chosen a stateroom category with limited availability, we'll select your stateroom for you at a later time. Please rest assured that while you cannot select a specific stateroom, you'll have one assigned to you when you arrive at the ship. Your exact stateroom will be in the category chosen or a higher category.

Any idea how this works? I don't want to be in the very front or back of the ship or by any elevators. I don't want to book and then find out when i get to San Juan that I'm right by the elevator or at the front of the ship!

Go on the GTY thread. You'll see how it works. You will usually see a cabin number appear on your reservation around 50 days before your cruise.

By the way, I've received assignments aft of the ship twice and those are the rooms I enjoyed the most.

Guarantee staterooms show up when there are only a handful of cabins left in that category. Yes, they will put you where they want you, within that guaranteed category (most likely) or a higher category (if you're lucky). If you need to pick your own cabin, you'll need to choose a category that still has enough availability for you to do so. If there are no categories like that for this cruise, it means the cruise is close to selling out.

i don't want to be right in the front or aft because my wife suffers from motion sickness when we get either of these rooms.

plus, she's a light sleeper and can't be near elevators.

i don't want to be in san juan arguing with cast members and i don't want the aggravation of having to cancel my cruise and flights if i can't pick my room.

Then you need to pick a category that is not in GTY status.

Pick a different category of cabin and you will be able to pick your cabin.
They do GTY when they sell out of a certain category.

Two options:

A) Wait for the assignment (around 50 days before the cruise) and if it doesn't fit your expectations, pick another category.

B) Pick another category now.

GTY cabins are not going to be the best choice for you. I would choose a non GTY category so you can actually pick your cabin.

IGT, OGT or VGT rate cabins have restrictions. These type of GT cabins are typically last minute, are less expensive and need to be paid in full at booking because they are close to sail date. These cabins are going to typically assign cabins at 10 to 14 days before sailing and you have no way of changing it.

I personally would not feel comfortable booking GTY then... the risk of getting a room that won't work for you is too high. As others have said I would choose another category that lets me pick my room or wait and see if that cat opens up where I can choose my own at a later date without booking now (knowing that may never happen).

You've eliminated about 70% of the rooms on the ship. I think you are better off choosing your own room. Good luck.

If you pick a gty category that is midship, you should be fine. Such as, 9b is a midship oceanview cabin.

There'd be nothing that you could "argue" anyway. If you book the GTY category you are agreeing to be put anywhere.

As others have said - pick a different category and/or cruise where there are still specific cabins for you to choose.

And the fact that they *could* "upgrade" you to something else.
I've heard people say that they put "do not upgrade " on their reservation. Usually your not upgraded anyway. But elevator situation would be difficult to fix.

For those telling him to pick another class, it doesn't seem that's possible from the above quote.

Alas, when getting GTY you're literally agreeing to "Your exact stateroom will be in the category chosen or a higher category".

Op have you cruised Disney before? Elevators aren't right next to rooms. They are in a more central elevator lobby type thing, then you go through an entryway to the stateroom halls. There's no door (under normal
circumstances) but it's a separated area from the elevators. I wouldn't have an issue with being the closest room to an elevator.

And being a person who sleeps with earplugs, I know that that's also an option.

As for seasickness...I've been in the very front (first cruise, Alaska, realized I was very very very newly pregnant while on the cruise), the very back, and in between. Can't prove to me there's much of a difference. Sometimes I'm woozy, sometimes I'm not. Only time I was actually sick from it was first cruise the morning we left the Inside Passage. Real ocean + itty bitty baby already messing with my hormones = bleah. If I was super concerned I would take the drugs or wear the seabands (did so for the first cruise) or gnaw on the ginger or dip slices of green apples in salt and eat that (the remedy MIL's server gave her when he noticed she was getting a bit green first night of her Alaska cruise) or do it all.

Doesn't apply to GTY or *GT reservations.
