Just jumping on to say hi. I am volunteering all day today, Teia's teacher has laryngitis and she can't talk so I am helping out. I stopped home to pick something up and I couldn't walk past my computer without hitting the DIS! :thumbsup2

I am not sure I'm ready to start that new thread just yet. I'll work on it, I promise. I don't want to close this one either! It's "home" for me now. ;)

We need a catchy thread name, I am open to suggestions. :goodvibes popcorn::

Be back later. Hope everyone is having a decent Tuesday! :grouphug:

Oh poor Logan! I hope he gets better soon. Apparently the cruise got half of the DISers sick! :rotfl: (Kidding of course, but I got sick, Lisa and Conor...then Holly got sick afterwards, and Logan and Lisa's mom...) Coincidence?... :rotfl:

3/4 of my family got sick, too. That was a real thrill at WDW, too, let me tell you! The up side is that we were soooo grateful to come home, that we weren't sad to leave! :rotfl: We just wanted to be home, in bed, relaxing. It was very bad to be on a plane, though--my son had such awful sinus pain that he was in tears. This is a boy who has migraines and doesn't tell anyone! What a relief it was to be home.

Now I'm the only one left who's sick...I hope it's not as bad as Lisa's family got! I'll just keep telling myself that it's just a cold, and that'll make it true. :thumbsup2

O.k, advisors (all of you are advisors btw), I'm looking for advice.....

Why is my son so whiney and emotional compared to my girls? !

If you are a DVC member can you still take advantage of the group rates? And how many qualify for being a group?

DVC members use points not cash, so a group rate wouldn't apply. You have to use cold hard $$$$$ to get a discount. :teeth: Vicki, they told you how to bank your points, right? I just thought it was odd that you said you had to take a vacation in 2008 or lose your points.

Well, I'm only 40 pages behind. I'm catching up with you all! :faint:

Yes, I agree, Congrats on the pin Jan! I can't wait to see it Monday! Jan, I thought of you walking around the various Disney shops wondering if you had this charm or that charm or this link or that link...

O.k yall, post to me about the DVC. Did you buy retail or resale? through who? What do I need to know about it? What do you know about it? I'm getting myself acquainted with the DVC forum, but newbie-itis is overwhelming me.

Prego test? Wow, :thumbsup2 those are the easiest tests to take.

Erica, let us know when your sea day installment is done.... :hourglass

Oooooh! DVC! I totally love it. It means so much to me to know that my hotel has been paid for. We bought through DVC, and we bought Saratoga Springs. You "own" your membership for a certain amount of time--50 years from the year that the resort opens, I believe. So, for example, Saratoga Springs opened in 2004, so those contracts expire in 2054. I know that lots of people get good deals buying resale, but keep in mind that if the deal is too good, DVC has the right to step in and buy the contract. It's called right of first refusal or something like that. It helps keep the "value of the property" up. (Read: keeps the prices up.)

We stayed on property for the first time last week. Previously, we've used our points at Disneyland. The points to stay at Disneyland have come way down, so it's a MUCH better deal now than it was when we joined. When we stayed at Saratoga Springs (which I will abbreviate to SSR from now on) we stayed in a studio one night and a one-bedroom villa the rest of the time. The studio was way too small for our family. It would sleep four, but with two kids of 12 and 7, who happen to be opposite sexes, we didn't have enough room. The one-bedroom villa had a living room and a bedroom, and the kids took turns sleeping on the pull-out couch. The kid who didn't have the couch took the couch cushions and slept on the floor. I've heard of DVC members who took an inflatable mattress, but I didn't see how I could fit that in our luggage. Anyway, there was plenty of room--TONS of room in a villa, the bathroom alone probably could have housed one of our children-- for that to work for us, but I think the next time we try it, we might consider a two-bedroom. When we stay at the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier, they have a couch that folds down into a single bed, which works well. Then we have two queen sized beds and a single.

DVC is a points-based system. You buy a set amount of points--I have 160. Then you have a chart that tells you how many points are required for each room size at each time of year. I haven't got any idea where my points charts are right now (I'm sorry!) but I can look up specifics online if you want. I believe that SSR was in the 140's for a one-bedroom for a week.

I don't think that DVC is a great deal if you want to use your points for cruises, but I haven't crunched the numbers yet. I'm always happy to go ON and ON about DVC, just ask Vicki. But I'm trying not to put too much in one post, so let me know if there's anything in particular you want to know. And it just occurred to me that I'm 40 pages behind so I'm really sorry if someone has already answered your questions!

hey! if you dvc and they ask for a reference type thing... tell them pete & judy wittsack sent you :teeth:

Oh yes! Definitely! DVC gives some nice gifts for referrals. :thumbsup2

Unfortunately, our state doesn't allow us to receive gifts for referrals :furious: so there's no competition from us to get the gifts.
