My dh's grandma was diagnosed with thyroid cancer about 3 weeks ago. She is 89 years old and up until diagnosis has been in perfect health. She has an aggresive type of cancer and has opted to accept no treatment. Grandpa died last year and she feels this is her time to go be with Grandpa. the oncologist had initially thought she would have about 6 months left. She is home receiving Hospice care (along with a lot of family taking turns). She has deteriorated very fast in the last couple of days. The hospice nurse today feels it is only a matter of days. Sooooo we are now having to very seriously consider that we will not be able to go on this vacation. You all know how much I want to go on this cruise, but grandma is so much more important to us than a vacation. She wants to die so badly and has been asking God all day today to please take her. Her priest was there today and she was very happy to see him. She was talikng in Italian alot today and thinking about her choldhood so who knows. Its out of our hands so we will play it day by day and hopefully we will get to say good-bye to grandma and then go on our vacation. We just can't go on vacation if she is still hanging on like this. It is soooooo sad.

Suzanne

Oh, Suzanne, I'm so sorry! :grouphug: We'll keep you in our thoughts!

Haha, go Suzanne.

Sorry to hear that though :( Cancer is bad stuff :( I've watched a lot of family members suffer through it..

I was going to pop in and say though that for those who were discussing taking their memory cards to shutters... With any luck, my laptop will survive for the cruise (It's really having issues) and if you bring the transfer cables we can pop in and just transfer pictures to a CD if you want :) Saves some $$.

Anyone else buying underwater cameras for Castaway Cay?

Got my Disney Rewards Card today from Chase and it's got 106 on it! YAY! I can buy myself something.

i'm so sorry! this is terrible news. i know what you're going through. my grandmother died of lung cancer in 2002. in 2001 she was diagnosed with colon cancer and we were supposed to go on our first (disney) cruise that august. and she had surgery in june or july and they were unsure of whether she'd be able to go. luckily that all worked out well. and things seemed ok for a little bit. she beat the colon cancer. but i guess that was just an inkling of what was to come. because the summer of the next year she was diagnose with lung cancer and it had pretty much spread everywhere. it was the saddest thing ever to watch her just waste away. my mom was there almost everynight. and that summer we had a hard time trying to decide if we were going to be able to go away for our vacation. it was horrible. :grouphug:
lots of hugs and extra prayers for you and your family

Thank you for the kind thoughts and prayers. It is very hard to watch someone you love suffer and I know most of us have been through this with someone in our families. She had a very happy and full life so we are ready to let her go when God is ready to take her. The timing is unfortunate but not something you can control :goodvibes

Awww, Suzanne I'm so sorry...it must be so hard on you. :grouphug: I know when my grandma had lung cancer she also deteriorated so fast. It was shocking when I found out she had passed away. I hope things work out okay for you guys.

I asked dh if we needed an extra memory card for the camera and he said (very nicely)- Honey, you won't need one do you know how many pictures an 8gig card will hold? So I torted back, so, how's the laptop going to handle all the pics I put in? :rotfl2:

Suzanne,

My prayers go out to you and your family. I hope your grandma gets her wish and can go peacefully and without to much pain.

I agree.

Attention skirt piratess wearers...... I just read this post from the "where'd you get your pirate costume" thread and ye be warned.....

Valgal##: "I don't want to wear a skirt because Deck 9 and 10 aren't skirt friendly. I had to change clothes and rejoin the pirate deck party back in June. This time I'm throwing some things together for a more comfortable pirate outfit. I'm not seeing anything that grabs me for a pirate costume so that's how I started pirate costume hunting. Hey, Goodwill is a great place to search for articles. It's so cheap you don't feel bad about shredding it or making it dirty looking. Here are some no-sew ideas relatively inexpensive ideas:....."

I thought, I'm wearing a skirt, maybe I should wear leggings underneath. Hmmmm. I'm not that kind of girl. I'll be hugging the railings.

Thanks again everyone. I sincerely appreciate it. I'm going to turn in now it's been a long day. Now please resume cruise talk and have fun :goodvibes

Suzanne
