oh it is so nice! hey, and as long as it's cooled off by january i'll be happy. don't really want to run that marathon in swealtering heat :rotfl:

I walked a half marathon (NOTHING compared to running a full marathon, I know :rotfl: ) but for my big ol' butt it was quite an accomplishment And it was for cancer research so I'm quite happy with myself :cheer2:

Anyway, it was nice and mild. Can't imagine how it would be running it and running it in the heat bleah I'd keel plumb over!

Hey I'm so glad you're on here, if you don't mind me picking your brain and getting your expert advice.... In Feb I started entering little races like 5K's etc and I run on the treadmill at the gym. Anyway a few months ago my right achilles tendon started killing me and after the walk thingy my right foot puffed up (I had actually been training for it and had walked the route a few times so I don't think it was just the "shock" of walking that long of a distance.

Anyway the foot swelling went down but my achilles tendon still hurts everytime I do the treadmill. I try to stretch it etc. and then I realized my tennies are about 2 years old, way overdue for replacing.

So the last ones I got, literally I just walked in the store, went to the running section and picked one that actually fit and was pink (my favorite color). Now that I'm actually trying to take running a little more seriously do you have any advice on good brands what to look for etc?

I run on the treadmill every day but the "races" I have done have been on city streets or trail runs. Do I need a different shoe for treadmill vs. trails?

Arggh any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Especially regarding my achilles tendon, I can't go more than three miles without keeling over and the pain in my ankle isn't helping me get past that mental barrier that I actually could go 5 miles if I tried.

The frustrating thing is 6 months ago I could go 5 miles no problem (well I take that back, i was huffing and puffing and feeling like puking but I could do it, now I can't go three without hobbling and giving up because the pain isn't going away and I'm worried I'm just making it worse)

Thanks (and sorry that was so long)! :goodvibes

it's been pretty good thus far. did get my run in this morning. all 5 miles of it. i got a really bad cramp with 1 mile left but i pushed myself to the end. i kept thinking, come on you can do this! there's no stopping for cramps during the marathon keep going! :teeth:

then had to run a few errands. just got home a little bit ago. tried to take a nap cause i'm really tired. but i wasn't getting far. was supposed to have a date tonight but the boy had a family emergency so it looks like i'm home for the night. unless i can round up some friends to go to the bar. if not a quiet night in front of the tv should be just fine :)

sounds like it could be a nice night either way, though I'm sure you would have preferred the plans with the boyfriend :thumbsup2

I am going to a movie tonight with my sister, outdoor cinema, the newest willie wonka - mmmm johnny and chocolate I haven't seen it yet (I don't get to many movies, :rotfl: haven't even seen the new POTC)

Oh well it should be fun! I have to go to a work bbq here in a few minutes, have the apple cobbler in the oven cooking and am just waitin until it's time for me to go start picking people up.

Hope you all have a nice evening, talk with you later! I'll let you know how Johnny turned out, twenty feet hiiiiigh, niiiice :teeth:

bye!

haha no worries... i'm always glad to help out when i can!

and even walking a half marathon is a great accomplishment! i told my parents they should do it. my mom was hesitant about spending the money though just to walk the race...

sorry to hear about getting hurt! that's never fun. my knees are a little wierd sometimes. so i have to make sure i ice them and stretch out and all that good stuff. the worst i had was some weird pain on the side of my foot. i took a couple weeks off and it was fine after that...

anyways, i run in nike shoes. i have the shox. they are amazing. my pair are seriously probably the most comfortable things to run in. so you could always try those. granted they are kind of expensive, but if you're anywhere near a nike factory store (usually outlet malls and stuff) i say check them out! the pair i'm running in right now are normally over $100... i got my shoes (and special running socks) all for about $70. it was great. i highly recommend getting several good pair of socks made for running and stuff. i learned the hard way. i had many blisters and lost toenails after i did my marathon...

um, as to the difference between running on a treadmill vs running outside, i'm sure any shoe is just as good as any other. i don't really know the difference in that.

a good stretch you can do... i'm not sure how well it gets you achilles, it might be more for your calf but it might help. what you want to do stand facing the wall, rest your heel on the floor and put you toes on the wall and then lean in towards the wall. (if it makes sense you should feel a pulling in your calf). or you can do it my way... i stand backwards on a step with my toes on the edge and my heel hanging over and then you want to push that leg down. once again you should feel it in your calf. i'm not sure how much that will help with your achilles but i guess it couldn't hurt to try! i can ask some of my friends from college if they know anything else you can do (they ran track so they might know a little more than i do!)

i hope this has helped!

haha yeah, plans with the boy would have been preferable, especially since he was being a baby yesterday. however last night he did make my night when he sent me a text saying 'if it helps i miss you' hehe that's always nice :teeth:

ooo i love that movie! you'll have to let me know if you like it! i go to the movies too much, so i know most of them. although recently it's only been pirates i've seen :lmao:

mmm work bbq and apple cobbler... can i come!? :teeth:
haha have fun, enjoy the bbq and the movie!! :wave2:

I am in the same boat, lonnnnng travel day for us. Get to the airport about 5 a.m. and arrive in Orlando around 4:30 p.m. some time changes in there so not really that long, but sure feels like it!

Last I heard was that you could bring electronics, just not if you were flying from the UK, but then someone mentioned it might depend on your specific airline.

I'm crossing my fingers, I sure want my laptop with me, especially for watching movies, since I don't have a game boy or anything.

Hi, by the way.

We're flying American, and they've got info up on the website. So far, electronics are allowed for domestic flights with them. Hope it stays that way!

hey cool, we are pretty darn close to you! I think mom of two princesses got to post on my cabin number.

Have you ever been in this area of the ship before? (Sorry I can't remember if you've ever been on DCL before.)

OK, I was just going to post my room number there for Jan, and was wondering how safe that would be.... not because of you all, but if there are any lurkers or on here who could somehow use it wrong, ugh I hate that we have to be so cautious.

am i being a worry wart? :confused3

NO. There are lurkers, and we can't control who sees your information. Only post it if you feel comfortable. You can always PM if you want.
