Disney Wonder October 11th, 2015 5 day Baja

 Finally I have found someone like myself that doesn't do the coffee thing. UGH, can't stand anything about it taste or smell, ick.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I don't think I've ever met anyone else who didn't like coffee... most folks think i'm an alien :lmao: What do you drink instead? My go to three are Iced Sweet Tea, Dr. Pepper and Ice Water with lemon :goodvibes:goodvibes

I saw on your ticker that your family is going to DLR!!! We are locals and we are doing a staycation the week of July 6-11. We are staying on property for the first time & will be staying at VGC. Hope you have a blast! :yay:

:cheer2: Yes we are going down June 26th - July 1st so we will just miss you. We usually go down at least once a year...We have yet been able to stay on property. With 6 of us its SUPER expensive to stay on site. We always stay at Embassy Suites with a DL view for two reasons. 1] the savings from not paying for breakfast for all 6 is huge...and with DH and twin teenage boys...a simple pastry and juice will not cut it :rotfl: 2] we get the view so I can see the fireworks at night..with my illness I can't stay in the park that long..so I go and rest and get to watch the whole show from my room. :goodvibes

It will be her 21st birthday a few days before so she has an idea we may do something. My other DD will be 10 at the time of this cruise. She loved the last two, especially the kids club. k

You have a big age gap between your kids as well. My oldest DD will be 32 in a few months... she has given me 3 grandkids so far... 7, 4 and 9 months old, this will be all of their first time going to DL. My other kids are 17, 15, 13 & 13. I was a teenage mom with my oldest and begged her to wait to have kids till I was 40.... she did but barely :rotfl:

First post and hope I'm doing this right...

It will be my DDs 21st birthday a few days before so she has an idea we may do something.

This will be our third cruise. First was the Magic in 2011 (western Caribbean). Second was Fantasy Eastern Caribbean in 2012. Both were great.

As live in Vancouver getting to San Diego will be so much easier so that played huge factor in decision to take this cruise.

My other DD will be 10 at the time of this cruise. She loved the last two, especially the kids club.

k

Yay! Another Canadian :cool1: Welcome aboard. My youngest DD will be ten too, although she wasn't enamored of the kids club on the last cruise...but that had more to do with being jealous of her big sister (who went to the Edge instead) than any fault of the club

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes a big gap with my girls, like having only children sometimes. The older one actually suggested another cruise. She was a month away from 18 last time so couldn't use the adult areas. Will be different experience for her next time as an adult.

:rotfl2: I guess I am an alien also, I love to be different. My husband doesn't drink coffee either so we make a good pair, the only coffee pot I own is a small 4 cup for when my Dad would come over. My husband starts work at 5am and is the only one on the job without that first cup of coffee!!!

OH MY....I also have my favorite "go to three"......Pepsi, milk and water no lemon. :rolleyes1 Not only am I a non coffee drinker but I can't stand the taste of tea, ick. People try to get me to try flavored teas, but I can still taste the tea, nope none for me thanks!! :wave2:

:cheer2: Welcome to the group CountryK. You may change your mind about the FE, we are still a few months away. I am participating in my first FE on our cruise in August. I am really excited about it and already thinking of stuff to do for ours!!

Just booked for our 15th anniversary cruise :yay: Right now it is just Dh and me, but we might bring DS along.

I cannot believe how active this page is so far out!! Awesome!

This is our 12th cruise and 7th on the Wonder! It is my favorite ship! But I am biased ;)

I love doing FE's!

I feel the same way about the Magic.. We sailed on her 4 times then our last cruise was on the Fantasy... We missed the intimacy of the Magic...I'm hoping we will feel the same way about the Wonder. :thumbsup2

I called costco to transfer my booking. The TA checked the rates and said that if we tried to book another 9C (deluxe ocean view deck 2) for our family of four it would be an additional $1000!!! I'm glad I booked opening day prices! Whew!

So then, this got me thinking. I've tried to check the prices on DCL's website for the same category and it only offers the GTY rate? Does this mean that DCL reserves a certain number of cabins for outside travel agencies? What does everyone know about this?

According to my travel agent it isn't what DCL does. The TA's have to call the same DCL customer service line like everyone else does. The only difference is if a big company like say...Costco buys a block of cabins on opening day and then "re-sells" them through their website.

As of right now our sail date is 75% sold out... All quad cabins are sold out.. and on this one site you can see all the price increases from opening minute to now.. and a cat 9B for instance.. Started out at $780 per person and is now $1380 :crazy2: That is a jump of over $600 per PERSON.. Yikes!!! And there are 10 categories that are fully sold out. Whats even crazier is we paid $640 per person for Cat 9A.... before the cat was totally sold out they were selling them for $1250 per person. We would not be able to take the 6 of us if we wouldn't have booked opening day. It makes me sad :worried: to think of all the folks who didn't book on day or or even two and now can't go at all.

Not cruise related but I have a question :hyper: We are taking all our kids down to Disneyland June 26th - July 1st. We are doing Disney for 4 days.. and they want to do Universal Studios for the 5th day.. Has anyone ever gone? If so what is there to do? Did you enjoy it? Do you ride that tram/bus thing all day, or how does that work? Any thoughts or opinions would be great :thumbsup2

Universal Studios is fun, especially for first timers. The tram is a ride that takes you "behind the scenes" of movie lots. If you want to go on it again, you would have to get in line again. It is a must do once. There are other "movie" type attractions and rides based around movies. I haven't been for about 10 years and they have probably added or changed a few things. I would suggest going at least once in your life!!

My DH and I used to love going to Universal Studios before the kids came along. We haven't gone in about 8-10 years. We will wait til they're older because they're too young (now 6 1/2 and almost 3) to appreciate the movie tours and rides. If I remember correctly, your children are older so I think they'll like it. Your family could easily spend the whole day there. After the park you could go Universal Citywalk. Check both online, look at the attractions & rides, look at Citywalk, and check w/the family if all of it looks like fun for them. ;)

It is quite a drive away from disneyland though (you'd have to also factor traffic cuz you'd be coming during the week).

Thanks for the info! I think it's so crazy how fast the prices have gone up. This has been so fascinating to me! We also booked the 2 nighter after this cruise to make it a 7 night cruise, but it's so expensive. For now we are keeping the 2 night but may cancel later.

My daughter and I are also booked on the 2 nighter after this on. We aren't sure we'll be keeping it, but for now we will. The prices increased so fast.... Hoping Disney sees that CA is in demand and they bring the Wonder to the West Coast for good. :)

I am new to all of this, but how do you know when opening day occurs? Also, you mention a website showing how full the cruise is booked. How do you find this info? Thanks!

As for opening day... We all knew the approx date that DCL was going to release the Aug-Dec 2015 dates...but my TA emailed me a few days ahead of time to tell us what places they were sailing...We told her which one we were interested in..and we had an exact date due to our kids fall break schedule. So on opening day May 21st she was on the phone and within an hour had booked our two cabins and emailed me.

We didn't know about the 2 day add on till 2 days later and it literally was MORE for the 2 days for our exact cabin then it was for the 5 night...so we cancelled.

There are several websites that list the fullness but as for the opening fare and such I use cruisefish. net then go to finders then the ship/date/etc...

Yes our 4 kids that are still at home... are twin 13 year old boys and 15 and 17 year old girls. When I go online I only see 5 rides does that sound right? So is the park more walking/looking type of thing? What is citywalk? And how far is the drive? We could do Universal on either Sunday June 29th or Monday June 30... Wondering which day would be better? :confused3

I really can't help you with the rides, I just know that they have them. I think they have a couple of shows also. I just think you would enjoy it :thumbsup2 and your kids are at the right age to go there. Going on Sunday you won't have the weekday traffic just Sunday :hippie: drivers!!! Monday you will have a lot of traffic going, but coming back if you are returning late it would be a breeze. I would estimate an hour with light traffic from Disneyland. (could be a little less if you get a tail wind!!) It is an easy :drive: drive north on the 5 to the 101 north. Citywalk is sort of like a Downtown Disney type of place, shops and restaurants. I think you have to walk through it from the parking structure, well at least we did. :yay: I would go on Sunday.
