Disney Wonder March 20th 2011 sailing

just an fyi...dh insisted i call our ped b/c he wasn't sure bonine was kid approved...and according to our ped it isn't approved for those under 12. the nurse said they looked up the patch for us as well, but that the only officially "safe" thing for kids under 12 for motion sickness would be benadryl. guess i will be going BACK to walmart (got extension cords, power strips, more FE stuff and bungie cords today) to get some single dose benadryls so i don't have to cart a huge bottle with us. ugh. sometimes having a dh as a dr is a pain cuz once i KNOW it's not "ok" i can't say "oops i didn't know" no judgement from me AT ALL if you choose to use it, i just wanted to put it out there for anyone who might not use it if they had this info, does that make sense? i am one who likes to have all the info possible when making a decision so...there ya go!

off to work on making my (and my il's) fish extenders...eek! so much sewing still left to do!

I don't know how big your kids are, but if they are a small adult weight the patch is safe. We used in on our daughter (under 12) and she was fine. It was the only thing that stopped her 5 hours straight vomiting spell on our last cruise!! DH is a dr too and he said it was okay to use because of our daughter's size (we have tall, sturdily built kids for their age

We had tried all the other things first...wristbands, dramamine, etc and nothing worked. The patch was our last resort when we couldn't get her to stop vomiting. She never got sick again.

Absolubtly - but when you are buying it you might want to say 'THIS IS FOR MY CRUISE, NOT MY BREAKFAST'

I'm not sure what stores are around the port tho??

I shipped my box, got things ready to pack, and am so darn excited I could just go crazy!!

Not really. The corkage fee is not to physically open the bottle, it's to make up for them not selling the bottle to you. You can bring a glass of wine to the dining room no problem, but if you bring a bottle, open or not, they are supposed to charge the corkage fee. Not that they always will (because some servers are scared it will affect their tips) but they are supposed to.

I only use a half patch, the half is cut in half again and I put 1/4 patch behind both ears the morning before boarding the ship. I use the other half the last day at sea and then take it off when I get home. It prevents having the feeling you are still on the ship once you get home. The seas are pretty mild on this trip, you will notice a little rougher sea the last day at sea as we are going against the current and going into cooler waters.

Do your girls usually get sick? My husband gets horrible motion sickness but on our last cruise he just felt vaguely nauseated, never really got sick. I have heard that kids don't get as sick as adults usually (although I know some do). I am confused as to why they make and market Bonine for kids if it's not ok for kids??? That's so strange. I'm going to talk to my pharmacist friend tomorrow.

DCL can't know if we purchased that glass in a bar or not, since it's their wineglasses we use! We always ask our room steward to give us two fresh wineglasses per day.

We have bought the wine package before when we were traveling with more of our family, and that was a good plan when it was more of us. Now we will just buy an occasional bottle of wine, but mostly just bring it on ourselves.

I have all the FE gifts made, packaged, and packed... it was soooo hard to do with it still a secret! No other packing can start till the kids head over to my parents' on Saturday. Just a few days now!

DS's birthday is tomorrow... poor kid has not figured out why he's not having a party this year. We told him we would do something special for him over spring break.

DH told the kids we are going to Arizona to watch the Angels spring training over spring break next week. They are so NOT thrilled...they hate baseball and he loves it. He even took them shopping for new Angels gear.
Boy are they going to be surprised!!

I started this practice as instructed by my doctor and have been doing so sucesscully for the last 10 years. No dizziness, no dry mouth, no sleepiness and most importantly no sea sickness and I have been on cruises where we have experienced 17 + foot waves. I only have to make sure the half that what I cut off first goes back into the foil, and I place the foil into a baggie and wash my hands after applying, you have to anyway. I have have been on 14 day, 11 day, 12 days, 8 days and 7 day cruises and never once had any issue at all. I trust my doctors and I trust my Pharmacists who both have given me there blessing of doing this proceedure. If in doubt always consult your doctor.

I have a feeling that my girls will be prone to seasickness, mainly because my entire side of the family gets horrible motion sickness. My daughters can't go on the teacups at DL, or tire swings at school, but they have no problems on roller coasters or reading in the car. I was planning on giving them Bonine for kids as more of a precautionary measure. Please let me know what your pharmacist friend says.

Interesting! The patch seemed like the perfect solution for me, but only if cut in quarters. I've heard of a few people that have cut it with no problems.

I was thinking of asking my doctor for Phenergan. My mom used it on her Alaskan cruise and it worked great. As well as a prescription med, I'm also thinking of taking ginger pills. I've heard those really work too.
