Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

Ludari - Congratulations for making it on the Cruise to Nowhere!

Kris - I think it's safe to say I'm a true DCL fan...I still have most of the weight I've gained onboard! Thanks for the link. She did a really nice job. If I had money and/or artistic ability, I'd have a Disney-themed house. We've got a friend we met through Disboards who buys a lot of things Disney sells when they refurbish their resorts and uses them to furnish her vacation condo. I think most of her stuff is from Wildnerness Lodge.

Emma and I spent some nice time together tonight and made our door magnets. I think they turned out great. It's a bummer we're near the end of a corridor so only passengers from three cabins would be walking by to see them.

I also just finished our main FE gifts. It took a little longer than I expected but I'm really happy with how they turned out. Hopefully everyone likes them and gets good use out of them back home. I still have a few little things to put together for everyone and then I'm off to figure out the cheapest/easiest way to get them to the terminal.

I want to get something little for all the kids in our group. I think I know what I'm going to do for all the younger kids but I'm stumped for the kids 10-14. Does anyone have any ideas for inexpensive things for boys and girls in that age range?

I know many of you claim to be fans of the Disney Cruise Line and many of you even own DVC memberships. However, until you do this, I don't think any of us can call ourselves true Disney Cruise Line fans.

I have been inspired with a way to redecorate the room my 20 yr old son just moved out of. I bet he will think twice about moving back. :wizard::rolleyes1 Naw, that looks like it took waaaaaaayyyyyy too much time and I am not that good at painting. It is amazing, though!

I wonder if she was able to recreate the horn in her living room :) The would be one heck of a dinner bell!

Steve, I'm impressed that you're so far ahead of the game. I'm hoping to get my door magnets and t-shirts done by the 25th; I just need to get through finals and grading before I can do so. We're doing door magnets, but only the ones that you use to decorate the room number. Other than that, the only other one I'm doing is a happy birthday sign for DS on Friday of our cruise, which is when he turns 4.

Sue, I'd recommend taking the redecorate up a notch and installing a teak floor; that way, it's as if you're on the ship itself.

I was intrigued by this post http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2612151 on the main boards regarding DCL crediting back money to those who had paid in full but had not cruised. So, I checked my credit card and found that DCL had refunded a total of $47.12 in three different credits. Thus, you may find a few extra dollars credited to your credit card if you haven't checked recently.

I called DCL today as I was curious as to why. Here's what they told me: The taxes charged in the fare went down, so they were passing along a refund.'

For the 7 day cruise for 3 passengers, it was about $44 dollars; we're on the 2 day to nowhere with family, which accounted for the other $3. By my calculations, that dinner or brunch at Palo and tea in the afternoon for mommy and daddy. Not a bad surprise.

Silly bandz? My son is 12 and they are really into them at his school. They are pretty cheap. Glow bracelets, or glow sticks, temporary tattoos? Just some ideas. When all else fails.. candy! :rotfl:

As I previously posted Ashley and I went to WDW last weekend. Had a great time enjoying the holiday festivities. In addition to the top 5 attraction channel and the 24 hour DVC infomercial channel, WDW parks added a 24 hour DCL infomercial channel. Unfortunately the loop was only about 10 minutes or so. Got old fast. But it did highlight Disney stepping things up having to fill 3 and soon to be 4 ships.

I wonder if that's why the Disney vacation videos were made available on Netflix for streaming. Perhaps they were motivated to make the information available to help fill the ships.

The rates look fairly competitive now that they have extra capacity. I'm thinking of booking onboard for a January 2012 double-dip on the new ship (Dream?). For some reason, I can't keep the name of the new one and the one currently under construction straight. Some of my students work at DCL and they always have to correct me :)

Do you teach at UCF? The videos on Netflix were not produced by Disney but by the travel channel. They just cashed in and put them out on DVD and sold the streaming rights to netflix and iTunes. But I'm sure it doesn't hurt.

The Dream and Fantasy are the new ships. Fantasy goes into service in April '12 according to the DCL website. They won't be able to go through the Panama canal until 2016 or so, so I doubt we will see them in the West Coast until then.

If you mean Fullerton, then the answer is no, but I have several former students who attend there and know some of the faculty. I teach a bit south at one of the colleges.

We all should be receiving our cruise docs sometime next week. My SIL received hers today for the 1/21 sailing. Something to look forward to as it means our cruise is that much closer.

Hi Everyboday, I just wanted to show you what I came up with for the scavenger hunt. It will be Christmas Day. I found some of this online and added to it. The only one I wanted to try and reword is the dinner plate one.. any ideas?

Don’t worry; don't fear this is not your gift this year.
Clues will lead you to something good.
Look for a 2nd clue where we store food.

That was quick, you’re pretty smart
You and your gift aren't far apart.
Search for a clue where you get nice and clean.

Not bad,
You found me, quite a feat
You're almost there,
So don't retreat.
You'll find a clue where we relax
On cushy seats
Those soothe our backs.

Its not the end if dinner is late,
I'll wait what mom is about to create.
Put your food on me. I'm not a bowl,
I'm a___________

When your parents let you play on me,
You probably have fun.
Just be careful not to hurt my keyboard,
Or they might say you're done!

Ah ha, you've found
The final clue
You're gift is waiting
Just for you
Head over to the treasure chest
And hopefully you will like this gift the best!

1) 1st clue wrap & put under the tree
2) the shower
3) couch
4) Plate
5) Computer
6) a treasure chest we have with toys in it

In the treasure chest I was going to put this. I thought this was SO neat!! They will know once they see this. I may just put this and the DC booklet in there too.. Not sure.
http://sweeps.travel.aol.com/disney/assets/downloads/Disney_Ship_Paper_Toy.pdf

I also found trading pins on Ebay to the places we are going. I don't think they will get it once they see them. They will just think they are trading pins for their collections. I bought small things like a mickey pez, small pirate legos, those velvet mickey posters they can color on, etc.
Let me know what you think.

Hi all
Did someone say cruise docs WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! yippee are we there yet are we there yet ? Im so excited I could DIE ! Wendi has NEVER been on a cruise and she LOVES food !!! She calls today and says to me " What day do we get to do the buffet ":rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I told her EVERYDAY if she wants LOL Shes so funny !!!
Has anyone ever used the patches you put behind your ear for sea sickness? Any feedback would be great as Wendi will be trying one both before and during the cruise ( Before to see if it makes her sick or too sleepy ) I hope it works for her and would love feedback

Amber and Rick and the kids suggested maybe doing a scavenger hunt for the kids ...Who thinks that would be fun ? and who can help me figure it out if everyone decides they want to do it ? I think it would be good for an AT SEA day to pass the time for the kids
let me know !

Hello everyone!

Hope you are all doing well and are enjoying the awesome season. For all of you who went to DL this last weekend, I hope you guys had a blast! :thumbsup2

TONYA: Your scavenger hunt idea is AMAZING! :love:And I LOVE the boat idea! Your kids are going to love it!

KRIS: I received the same credit. I was super happy to make the same realization that the money can go towards Palo brunch. ;) I can't wait!

CARI: I filled out my cruise docs a LONG time ago. :lmao: I'm just that excited.

JESSICA: I know I'm kind of late on this, but were you able to order the wristbands?

Does anyone know for sure if the Golden Mickeys was removed? I would be infinitely sad. I've heard nothing but great things about the show and I was really looking forward to seeing it.

Our anniversary getaway is fast approaching! (December 26th-28th at DLH) It's definitely something to look forward to before the Cruise.

I just picked up the 2011 brochure and it still shows Golden Mickeys as one of the shows. I missed it on the Magic earlier this year, so I'm hoping it's on the Wonder next month.

Enjoy your anniversary getaway. I'm sure you'll have a blast.

I called my lady at DCL reservations and she did some foot work - it appears Golden Mickeys as of right now are set to STAY !!! WOOOO HOOOOO This is my FAVE show from the 3 night cruises and since I have never been on a 7 night I have no idea if it will remain the same fave but it is SO GOOD it brings me to tears - It goes through all the years of Walt Disney like from Snow White to more modern films OMG its so good !!!! I CANT WAIT TO SAIL ohhhh Im so excited Im DYING !
I think I recall on my last cruise someone posting a thread about where you can type in your ressie number and see when your cruise docs will arrive to your house Anyone know anything about it ?
Jessica- Just thinking about the braclets and thinking about how you can make it less work for getting them to us - What if we all sent you a self addressed stamped envlope along with the payment and maybe we write on the envlope somewhere how many we ordered ... Just thinking it would save you time and save you the hassle of having to look up how many to send back - Let me know what you think :thumbsup2
I want to go to DL again soon ... Im sick though so I dont know how well it will pan out ... this cold I hear is getting lots of people sick and it hangs on FOREVER ! oh well better now than in Jan - which is just a few weeks away !!!! WOOOHOOO then the real count down starts
do you guys think the news will be there ? I wonder if we should call channel 4 and see if they want to do a story on our group and the DIS boards since it is Disneys first sailing ? Just thinking crazy LOL

Thanks for the tips but I've got it taken care of. I ordered the bracelets Friday night, I just haven't sent the payment or retrieval info because this is finals week and I'm swamped! I will get those PM's sent out soon though!

Thank you. I noticed I did mess up on some of it. Oops.. guess I should have used spell check. It was late and I was tired so I was trying to hurry. I figure you guys would get the idea.

Somebody posted that paper ship on this thread... sorry I can't remember who did. When I saw that I thought.. perfect. Oh and I to go with that I forgot I made a hardback book of our last cruise 2 years ago. They should know what all that means after looking at the last 2. I can't wait. I think I am more excited then the kids will be! LOL

i have not been a regular on here, as my job (and two kids) keep me very busy. However, I have a couple of quick comments...

1. to Jessica- if you have any extra bracelets after you give out the others (i.e. people do not pay up), I may be interested in one or two.

2. to one organizing a scavenger hunt... please let me know if this happens. The one thing my tween commented about the DCL kids programs was that scavenger hunt wasn't as well-planned as on another line and the other line did them daily. She really LOVES scavenger hunts, and I am hoping the director of children's programming will realize kids love these. If anyone does organize one, please post or private message me with day, time and meeting place.

3. does anyone know how rough Mexican Riviera waters are, compared to Easter Carib or Western carib? I would imagine with the Alaskan current and subduction zone plate boundary (leading to deeper coastline) that there is the potential to be a bit more choppy.

If you have a local Walgreens near you, you might want to check out their light-up Disney shirts for kids. They're pretty cool with a patch that has fiber optics embedded into it and you can select from a number of light-up effects. They were originally $20 (probably not worth it), but our local Walgreens had marked them down to $10.99. We bought one for DS and two for our nieces; perfect for AP :)

Still anxiously awaiting the cruise documents . . . . I can't understand why my SIL already received hers, but we haven't received ours. Maybe it's because we're doing a B2B and they're only doing the two day. My DW doesn't understand why it's a big deal, but it's the fact that it's the final thing that signals the cruise is near.

Enjoy the rest of your week. Forty days until we cruise according to the DCL website tonight :)

Kris

Hi! Is your name Jessica too? I should probably know that but I've been so busy I haven't really kept up with the boards (sorry). I ABSOLUTELY have extra bracelets! I had to buy about 9 extra and just pay for them myself in order to meet the quantity for a price break. The good news is (and everyone who ordered bracelets will get this information in the next couple of days with my PM), but a couple of people ordered bracelets that didn't originally say they wanted any so the price went down! :thumbsup2 I think I last posted that they were $180+ but they went down to $1.26 each! :woohoo: Let me know if/when you decide you want any and I will send you a PM with the info!

Jessica,

I hope you're majoring in business. Getting a price break from $180 to $1.26 each is phenomenal! :). Sorry - couldn't resist.

I hope your finals went or are going well. Ten more papers to grade and final discussion boards to review and I'll be done for the semester only to start classes again the day after we return from our cruise.
