Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

Dave and I are coming in on Friday and staying 2 nights at GCV. Going to Disneyland on Saturday, (Our first time in Disneyland) Did you guys notice that we leave at 4pm from Mazatlan? I thought we were leaving at 7pm. Any one know why the change in time?
We will be staying in a studio there Saturday night, too! I am a Disneyland veteran and let me know if you have any questions. Jeff always teases me as I typically help complete strangers at least once a trip.
Have you figured out what you will do with your car while on the cruise or will you have a car to worry about? I know they have transport from DLR to the port but I don't think they will let us leave our car there. Has anyone researched this situation, yet?

Off to review what we are looking at for excursions.:banana::banana:
We wanted to do the zip line but I think Alec will chicken out and we want to do something as a family when we go into ports. We are looking at PV-whale watching (maybe the one Disney has, the Photo safari), Mazatlan-Randi's Happy Horses & maybe hanging out at one of the resorts in PV and possibly finding jet skiing there. I am open to any all all suggestions and impressions. We have never really gone to Mexico as Jeff has been very against it until DCL decided to come this way.
OK, back to my research!:surfweb:

I called DCL to find out info about the Pirate Party and i was told:
1/24 Monday/ Sea day is Formal Night
1/26 Wednesday/Puerto Vallerta is Pirate Night
1/28 Friday/ Cabo San Lucas is Semi-Formal Night

I think it would be crazy to have Formal Night on the day we board, it can take hours to get all of your luggage.

Thanks! I meant to type 1/28 my brain processed the "8" as a "3" seems so far away. Sounds good.

Just thought I'd pipe in and say that this is absolutely correct! :thumbsup2

thanks for the info. So it is 12:01 AM Eastern time that bookings start?

I read on an earlier post that semi-formal night is 1/23. Is that still good info? We like to go to Palo on the either the semi formal or formal night. Order room service the other. I'm on vacation -- no dressing up (except may be for Palo and Victoria & Albert's that is worth it).

Frank

Yuppers - 12:01 AM EST! :woohoo: Ryan and I will not be getting room service any night (unless something goes horribly wrong and one of us gets sick or something), but we WILL be taking the time to watch the Lion King in the room once during the cruise! Our last Disney cruise we kept saying that we have to catch it and watch it because the movie is in the vault and its one of the few we don't have. Unfortunately we were always so busy that we missed it every time. :( No matter what, we're watching it this time! :3dglasses

Hey Hey Hey! How have you been? We went to Disneyland today and just got back so I was in the Disney mood and wanted to check the board. I'm glad you posted! Ryan and I keep going back and forth on excursions, but we need to make a decision before tomorrow!

In all honesty, we are really disappointed with the excursion choices (and prices). We are set in Mazatland because we're doing Randi's Happy Horses, but Puerto Vallarta and Cabo are a whole different story. There's really nothing in those ports that grab us as something we want to do. For the sake of doing something we narrowed it down to a few things we would settle for, but then we noticed that almost everything was $99 per person! ***?!? Seriously, $99 for something that should be about $40, it's insane! So, this is our current plan:

Puerto Vallarta - get off the ship for the sake of getting off the ship; maybe walk around and shop a little, then get back on the ship and spend the rest of the day there. (If anyone has any fun plans that you'd like company on, let us know as we're flexible and up for whatever!) Otherwise, we will just do nothing but walk around a bit.

Mazatlan - Randi's Happy Horses (this is concrete and not changing)

Cabo - Sue, we were thinking that if you, Jeff, and Alec were still strolling around town and going to cabowabo that we'd just tag along with you. Are you guys still doing that? If so, can we still tag along? If not then we'll do the same thing as in PVR, just walk around a little, maybe do some shopping, and then get back on the ship.

I truly am disappointed by the excursions. Hey Steve - have you and Amy decided anything for Puerto Vallarta and Cabo?? Maybe we could create something of our own with the kids (yours, Sue's, etc), like go to a beach and host a kids sand castle contest, have games or events and stuff like that. I don't know, just a thought. The only thing I know for sure is that the shore excursion options seem to suck!

I agree the excursions do seem pricey. I am guessing they are shifting costs from the room to the excursions. I did think the cruise price was pretty cheap compared to the 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise we took last year. We are both going to miss the Castaway Cay stop. I posted my selection earlier in the week. We are now talking about even skipping an excursion at one port. We will decide today.

As far as the Lion King -- now you have me wanting to see it. Just ordered a copy for $17 new on Amazon. Will let you know how that turns out.

We did a date night last year and stayed in, ordered room service and relaxed with a movie. It came out of just being tired but was fun and we decided to make it a tradition.

Hi Andrea,

Yes, I believe she is allowed but I don't know for sure. I sent her an email to check and see. I also asked her how many of us are booked for that date and whether or not there is any space left. I will let you know! :thumbsup2:woohoo: It would be awesome if you guys joined us!

Feel free to start your FE making/buying! Technically the FE list is closed, but if someone wanted to join late we would tell them that they could give gifts, but they would half to understand that the only gifts they received would be from those who decide to make/buy a few extras.

The list on our little website under the "Characters of Wonder" link is updated. The only one I'm not sure about is DangerMouse, so I put a "no" for them. I believe Steve had emailed everyone who was undecided, so I will email him today to see if DangerMouse was one of them. DangerMouse - if you read this will you please let me know if you're a "yes" or "no" for FE's (sorry, I can't remember!)? The only other thing to note is that Karen (So_Oregon) thinks that some of her family may be canceling, but we're not sure yet. For the time being we're running on the assumption that no one is canceling, but I won't know for sure until she gets back to me. I'm sorry I don't have a more concrete answer, but for now I'd say the list stands around 18 or 19 cabins and potentially can go down to about 16. I hope that helps! :confused3:thumbsup2

OOPS! I was looking t the FE list and apparently i forgot that my DD Lizzy has a b-day between now and then cruise! hahaha

she will actually be 6, if we can change that - if not no big deal :)

thanks so much!

I think we are going to do the same for Puerta Vallerta. I read on line it is a 30 min walk from the port to center of town. It should be $5 USD cab ride regulated. All sites I read said gave the normal international advice, pre-negotiate the fare before getting in the cab. They also said to use the yellow cab directly outside the port complex versus the Federal cabs in the port complex. We figure we will wait until all the excursion people get off the ship and take out time.

Yes! I've contacted Randi and she said it would be fine for my 4 year old son. However, if your daughter needs are harness type saddle, then they may be limited there. If she can ride in a normal saddle and they have enough horses, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Steve, Amy, Yanira, Sergio, Sue, and Jeff - I love you all, but this is SO FRUSTRATING! Ryan and I were in at 9:01, pulled up our first reservation for brunch and clicked the button to add another and it kicked us out saying that someone else at our table was in their reservation! Now it's COMPLETELY LOCKED US OUT and says "your reservation is not available, try again in 20 minutes" - and it's said that for 20 minutes! GRRRR! If we get jipped out of a reservation, then Steve and Amy, Sue and Jeff, or Yanira and Sergio are going to have to edit your reservation from a table of 2 to a table of 4! :lmao: (by the way, this is not a joke) :rotfl2:

Hang in there. I booked 70 days out for our first DCL cruise and was still able to get everything I wanted, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I am joining you in frustration but Yanira & Sergio can't be causing it as I realized this is their first and won't be on for awhile. So....it must be Steve. :3dglasses:eek:;)
