Disney Wonder for Adults

We have been trying to decide between a 4 day Disney Wonder Cruise and a 4 day RCL cruise but I am leaning towards the disney. Anyway, is it a good cruise for adults only (we're both 32) and going for our 10th anniversary. We've never been on a cruise before, but we do enjoy all things Disney (we are going there with our family in March). Anyway...I though that it might be nice to see what it is like for possibly taking our children in the future and I know adults do go. Someone said Disney is more casual, which I like, but wondering if it will be romantic enough. Sorry for running on. Thanks to those who respond..

I've cruised twice without any children and am cruising again this October. In October I am getting married and all of my adult only friends are going with us.

DCL was our first cruise, our honeymoon cruise at that! So we had no kids, and now we are quite unwilling to sail on another cruise line! From everything I have read (because I can't actually compare), DCL stands alone in the quality of service and cruising options for all, but let's face it, you gotta love Disney! They specifically cater to adults, and we were not disappointed AT ALL in what they had to offer.

if DCL was around at the time we got married, we would have definitely gone.....there is not a 3 or 4 day cruise that even remotely compares to DCL...

I've only cruised twice, both time as an adult with no children ... well, my DD is an adult, so that doesn't count. I was a little concerned the first trip that we would be dodging kids the whole trip, but we hardly ever saw any (beyond the times we passed by the family pools). They keep the adults separated from the children, which is nice. Our trip in December seemed to have more kids, or probably just kids who weren't being watched/controlled by their parents. But mainly it's very nice for adults that don't want to be around kids.

There are plenty of adult-only options. This includes the spa, the wine tasting, dinner at Palo, the adult beach on Castaway Cay.

The 7 days have the "adult education" which has the behind the scenes type classes. I don't believe the shorter cruises have them yet...the navigators on the castawayclub.com site were very helpful for us to decide if there was enough to intrigue us. And there is!

DH and I took our first Disney Cruise as our honeymoon (7-day Eastern, Christmas 2001). We were 26 and 29 at the time. We've taken two more Disney Cruises since then (one of those times I took my Mom). We have another 7-day booked for March 2005

We've never tried any other cruiseline because we are reluctnant for many reasons. I've read so much about other cruiselines and asked so many questions of others who have cruised on other lines -- it just doesn't seem to compare.

One of the biggest differences I see is that Disney is very strict about keeping adult activities and areas completely kid-free. Other lines aren't as strict about this. This is super-important to us.

Aside from that, some of the things we absolutely love about Disney are as follows (in no particular order):

1 - Quiet Cove Pool and Signals pool bar. This pool also has two hot tubs.

2 - The secret decks and comfy chairs -- decks 4 & 7.

3 - The dining experience is wonderful. All restaurants are wonderfully themed and the food is yummy. I'm vegetarian and they've been so great with my meal preps.

4 - The stateroom decor is so much nicer than any other photos of staterooms I've seen from other cruiselines (and trust me, I've looked at SO MANY in my 'research.')

5 - The staterooms are 25% larger than most other cruiseline's staterooms.

6 - Castaway Cay is unbelievable!

7 - Serenity Bay at Castaway Cay is so relaxing!

8 - I love the Rainforest Room at Vista Spa

9 - The massage cabanas at Serenity Bay and the Surial experience onboard is so wonderful!

10 - The stage productions are top notch and unbelievably magical and entertaining.

11 - The ship is immaculately clean. It's amazing how everything looks so new and clean.

12 - NO CASINOS

13 - There are so many activities to choose from that it is sometimes frustrating deciding what to do!

14 - The deck parties are awesome!

15 - Promenade Lounge -- it's fun to sit and have a drink, listen to the musicians and watch everyone all decked out in their best making their way to dinner.

16 - Cadillac Lounge/Sessions has these wall headphone next to the portholes that you can sit and listen to music and relax. It's nice and quiet in there!

and would like to add that getting a 'verandah stateroom' adds SO MUCH to the romantic feeling.

-- We cruised alone for our honeymoon & had a verandah
-- Once with the kids with a huge porthole window (they had their own room)
-- Once with the kids with a verandah (they had their own room)

All times were romantic, but by far, the most romantic times we had were in the verandah rooms. It's so special to go back to your room & open the door & step out -ALONE- on the verandah & look @ the moon beaming down on the sea & listening to the waves. Then to go back inside & leave the door open & listen. We brought things with us (rose petals, etc.) to add to the romantic atmosphere.

With this & all of the 'adults-only' areas on the ship & on CC, it is a wonderful vacation for adults - with or without children. You can be around them if you want to - or not if you don't.

WOW! Can't believe in the long list I made that I actually forgot to add 'verandah' to the list! LOL -- We've had a verandah 2 times and I had a porthole once (cat8) while sailing with my Mom. The verandah was VERY romantic. The sun rising and setting over the ocean gives off one of the most unbelievable color shows!

Just got back from a 4 day DCL cruise on the Wonder, left on Feb 1st. Sailed with my wife and 2 girls and my Sister and Bro in law came along for their 10th Anniversary and their 1st cruise ever. They got a stateroom with a Verandah and they had the most romantic and unbelievalble fun time. They loved having breakfast on the verandah, the adult only areas of the ship(and they were adult only no kids), the Vista Spa(Surial room, lots of fun, awesome massages etc) and Castaway Cay and the adult only areas on the island was just so relaxing. They loved all the food and so much being geared to adults even with having so many kids on board. They had just a great time and kept saying while we were on board that we should have done the 7 day cruise instead of the 4 day but that is for another time very soon. I would not hesitate to recomend DCL to any Adults only that want to take a cruise.

If you have children, but decided not to bring them on your Disney cruise (because it was an anniversary or whatever), did you feel guilty? We still can't decide on what to do. Part of me want to be just dh and I alone, then there is the other part of me that says..."hey this is Disney, how can you not take the kids on the cruise" HELP!!!!

First, I would say CRSNDSNY has already covered all the really good points!

We don't have kids and are honestly reluctant to cruise any other line at all. Just because it's Disney doesn't mean it is just for kids. I personally hate that stereotype that seems to becoming more and more prevalent. Walt wanted a form of entertainment for the whole family, just not kids. What was the exact idea - He took his daughters to the local carnival and saw all the parents standing around waiting and at that point came up with the idea of a theme park that covered the whole family. And DCL does deliver on this.

To answer MOM's question: You don't have have to worry about having 'alone' time- the ship has totally separate chaperoned programming tracks JUST for the kids, where you check them in and out and you now have oodles of time to yourselves.

I guess I'm the odd person here with my opinion. We've always done Carnival. We cruised last month on Disney with our kids, ages 13 and 15.
The kids enjoyed the cruise cuz they had the teen club. But my husband and I wouldn't do a Disney cruise again. We thought the shows were much better on Carnival. The one we went on was a new one. So I' can't speak for the older ones.

I just thought we got so much more for our money with CCL. You pay for the Disney name. I'm NOT knocking Disney, but just thought it was too much.

You can get a verandah on CCL for LOTS less money. We went on the Pride. We'll be doing Royal this year. Our friends that went with us on Disney, just LOVED Royal! They just got back.

Good luck! YOu'll have a great time whatever you decide. But considering you won't have kids with you, I'd opt not to do Disney. There's kids EVERYWHERE! Maybe you don't mind.

My Hubby and I leave tomorrow for our 5th Disney Cruise. and we don't have any children. We love cruising with Disney!!
