Day 1
Cruisers Lisa and Jim
Got up around 8am, got everything repacked that needed it and went to McDonald's for breakfast. After breakfast back to the Radisson and checked out. Got the 10am shuttle to the port. Shuttle driver was not pleased he had to deal with my wheelchair. We were dropped at a tent in the parking lot, where they took our luggage and then we had to walk to the terminal. Thank God I had my wheelchair and Jim could push me.
Got to the terminal and through security. People kept telling me stuff and I had no idea what was being said but at least Jim could hear and take care of things. They patted me down as I have metal in my leg so wanding would be useless even if I was not in a wheelchair. Took the elevator upstairs and checked in. We were sent to an area with seats for handicapped guests until boarding.
We were boarded first and sent to eat at the inside buffet. I made a good dent in the shrimp! After we went to our cabin and dropped everything then I went to speak with the head waiter about my food allergies and the fact I am diabetic. Got that put in the computer and off to deck 9 and the spa. Set up an appointment for an aromatherapy wrap and massage.
Now back to our cabin to unpack and check things out. The cabin is all set up with a vibrating alarm clock, flashing lights for the door, fire alarm, and phone as well as a tty so I can contact guest services if I need. One light doesn't work and closed captioning is off but that is quickly fixed.
Just before time for the emergency boat drill a casrmember comes to the cabin to assist me to deck 4 since I use a cane or wheelchair. At our station, Theresa is there to interpret for me. She is such a sweetheart and I am glad to see her again. I like her as an interpreter. Funny is I see Theresa sign our cabin and raise my hand and my dh who is hearing missed it being called. Jim asks Theresa why she doesn't have a life jacket on and she signs back so I had to interpret for him. The interpreters don't wear the life jacket during the drill as it would be difficult to sign clearly with it on.
Drill over! We skipped the send off party since we wanted to change for dinner. Set up my internet account. Angela is there setting one up too. Dinner first night is great. We are seated with all 4 interpreters, Angela, Vince, Marvin and Theresa. Angela interprets for the waiters. Angela teases Vince and Marvin telling me they are the touble makers of the group. I already knew that since I know all of them.
After dinner I do some pintradig before going to the show and buy some new pins. The first night's show is Gary Delaney, a comedian. Angela and Marvin interpret it. Delaney gives Marvin a hard time by throwing in a few things just to see if Marvin will actaully interpret them. He does. Angela does a terrific job interpreting some of his Brooklyn attitude jokes. She really gets into the character! Attitude to the max!
After the show I go up to deck 9 to hit the hot tub for a while. They kick us out at midnight. I head for my cabin to find my dh sound asleep already. Take a bath and off to bed.
