Today was an adventure. Finished a project with one client late last night and had a meeting with another this afternoon. It is about a surprise (to me) large grant that needs to be submitted by Tuesday. It was storming big time outside when I woke the child at 11:00 (letting her sleep in on some days) then off to the shower. In the middle of the shower, I hear a big bang and the power goes out. Finish and get dressed in the dark. That was fun. The dog is freaking out and DD says, “Did you hear that?”
Went to the meeting anyway. It went well but there is a lot of work to do over the next couple of days. Back at home still no power. It is in the mid 90’s here and without AC the house was a sauna. OK, lets go do something. We went and had a late lunch/early dinner.
Returning, I see utility trucks parked out front. Good sign. Then they start to leave. Me, “What?” Them, “Transformer is blown.” Me, “What?” Them, “Transformer is blown. We don’t carry them on the truck you know.” Me, “Why not?” Them, “Because we don’t (you idiot under their breath).” Me, “I have some work to do, When?” Them, “Few hours maybe longer.”
While I am making fun of the Utilities Company (FPL), they were pretty efficient. Power was restored by 8:00 and it was cool to watch them replace the transformer. If lightning is dangerous, try playing with high voltage electricity.
So anyway, power is restored then I have to wrestle to get the Internet up. The router may be fried but at least I can connect with the umbilical cord. With taking DD and another friend to a residential sports camp and work, the next update may be a while. Forgive me.
Sorry a bit out of focus but you can see what lighting can do to metal, let alone skin and bones. No reason to be afraid just be aware.
The other side more in focus
