But wouldn't you a similar worry if there was a defined list of reasons for giving compensation? Such as clogging toilets or other drains to create plumbing problems? The expectation of no compensation is standard and within the cruise contract; anything else is simply good-will for whatever reason it was decided.


I don't see the connection you are trying to draw here. I'm pretty sure DCL has called muster drills in the past without compensation. Whatever specific circumstances existed in this particular situation does not guarantee compensation in the future if a muster drill may be necessary.

I was thinking more ship wide issues. An atrium out of commission where you can't even cross the ship for days on that floor is very hard to cause. If your toilet floods that is likely user error. You are right they don't have to offer anything but many people pay DCL prices for the service. It was pretty poor "show" (to use a Disney term) to have a flooded atrium and offer guests nothing.

Has DCL had a false alarm muster drill in the last 5 years? I do think it is strange to offer for this but the fire alarms that go off at WDW resort do not get compensation.

They may have decided to provide compensation because it was an employee error and a big one at that. Were not privy to the back story behind the error...was it intentional, unintentional, incompetence an over reaction. We will never know. I don't think it's very common, but if you do google searches will find a few of these incidents. The ones I dug up were rectified pretty quickly.

The one on DCL is getting a lot of publicity which leads me to believe that having people report to their muster stations and wait for over an hour is a pretty rare event.
