Disney Wish Maiden Voyage - News & Live Checkins

The old placement was perfect for watching from the couch, or for sharing from all beds at night. It was the perfect placement. It really does seem like the design team never actually sailed the previous ships as a regular customer would to see what worked. Either this change was just change for change's sake, or DCL realized they could save a few bucks on a more simple mount.
Or it was changed because their competitors were offering larger TV sets and Disney realized that they couldn't mount a larger TV in the same place. Could you imagine the 40-50" TV they have now mounted on the corner of the desk? It would always be in the way!

Besides, the new location is better for people who like to watch movies before bed or something. So, it's less good for some guests, but better for others. There will always be tradeoffs.

Exactly. Yeah the old TVs can tilt, but they're also smaller than most of our computer monitors. Fair tradeoff, IMO. Same with the promenade stairs everyone is freaking out over. Probably had to be that way to add a lot of the stuff people love on the ship. And I'm guessing a full promenade loop doesn't move the needle as a guest experience to the degree this board would make it seem. Easier to just see something you don't prefer and assume the designers and engineers are all incompetent, I guess.

Interesting. I've never even considered comparing TV sizes between cruise lines, and I've never sat the four feet away from the TV thinking, "we really need a bigger TV in here." I don't think the extra size is at all worth moving it from a spot it can be easily watched from the couch, or by those sleeping on the pullout or bunk. Watching Disney classics late at night as a family was one if the fun parts of cruising DCL when the kids were young, and this doesn't look like it would work well for that at all. In short, I still think it's a bad design decision and few would care if the TV isn't as big as competitors.

Or sad to lose lots of little things that made DCL special to you? It's just subjective opinions that some bad design choices were made; they can't be wrong. I'm perfectly happy for DCL to try new things, and would love to try the Wish one day, but I'm even more grateful we still have the classic ships to go back to for those of us who love them. It's great to have both options.

@brentm77 have you seen the inside rooms for the TV’s?

So, after 4 days on the ship, I am finally getting a better feel for it. For most of you embarking, it will be a bit jarring because things are not laid out like they are on the other 4 ships. Having had time to get used to the layout, I am warming up to the ship. The food has been very good to excellent. The MDR’s are all good. Also, it seems like they have figured out the acoustics in the Arendelle restaurant where you can still talk to folks at your table (we always find Rapunzel’s and Tiana’s, while great, to be extremely loud.)

Quick service food is also very good with a special shout out to the “Festival of Foods” area. The pizza is better and the addition of Donald’s Cantina and the BBQ place are a big plus. Having gotten back onboard early today in Castaway to try the pools, I actually like this tiered pool layout a lot. A good bit of space in there. The Hero Zone (once I found it) is pretty cool too.

Are there things that can be improved? Sure, but I bet they take feedback and make some adjustments (how many of you remember when Satellite Falls was added to the Fantasy when it wasn’t on the Dream?). A couple things. While I would prefer the 3 elevator bank setup, this would work if they put in dedicated floor 12/13 buttons. Only the back 4 aft (out of 8) elevators go to 12, and only 2 of those go on to 13. Lots of people have been having issues getting up to 12/13 because it always seems like it’s the first four (that only go to 11 - nice Spinal Tap reference DCL!!!) that come. Many times you have to ride one of the dedicated elevators down and go back up, or you have to go to 11, get off, then push the up button again to try to go higher. Also, the placement of the adult area seems an afterthought and it is t real easy to get back there. Lastly. If you have more than 2 people in a stateroom, make sure to book a verandah. The insides and the one OV I saw are small (ok for 2, but I can’t imagine putting more in there).

All that said, we are having a great time!

I get that, no ship will appeal to everyone, and what makes DCL special to you may be things I don't care about. I'm more talking about the comments that every change indicates the designers are incompetent, didn't think it through, changing just to change with no good reason, they hate us, blah blah blah. Just because I don't personally like a change doesn't mean someone made a huge mistake and don't know what they're doing.

Although I would say this is fair for balcony rooms, the inside room TVs do not face either the bed or the sofa so I feel the only way you can really watch it is standing up. This seems absolutely stupid to me and clearly none of the designers have ever tried to watch TV in one of these rooms.

I’ve been in guy the thread trying to give them them benefit of the doubt on designs, but I saw the inside stateroom setup and definitely said “what the…” it’s hard to imagine who would want that.

There is no defending that design choice. NO ONE with half a brain would flush mount a TV on a side wall next to a bed when there is NO way to watch it face on (no couch, even). These rooms, at least, should have gotten bracket mounted TVs that could be angled.

Someone must have because Disney is known for researching things to DEATH. So a lot of someones must have wanted that.

Probably lots of 3-nighters to Bahamas on Florida rates. But it will be interesting to ask how many have been to more than 10 countries. Excluding the two Dakotas, mind you.
The short cruises are mostly first time cruisers. The more unique cruises are when most of the ship is platinum. Sorry to blow up your theory.

I always assume any company doing billion dollar engineering projects has done research and tries to think things through, but they got me on this one. It’s just so bizarre to have a TV there I don’t know what possible advantage there could be for anyone in that room.

Whatever the reason was, you’ll have a hard time convincing me it was because they thought guests would like it.
