To each their own I suppose. Could also be a supply issue - perhaps the wall mounts haven't arrived and will be retrofitted.
Yes. We like to be in our cabin, watching TV, eating room service and relaxing. It may seem weird to some, but it is what we like to do. Everyone has different things they enjoy doing and what they consider a relaxing vacation.Do a lot of people spend thousands of dollars to go on a cruise just to spend time in their cabin - watching TV?
Yes, to a point. Maybe not so much on the shorter cruises like this one, be even there, families with young children may want to be with the kids at night, but the kids don't have the stamina to play late into the night. I have fantastic memories of us being all cozy in our cabin watching classic Disney movies with our young children. They do too.Do a lot of people spend thousands of dollars to go on a cruise just to spend time in their cabin - watching TV?
Most likely, they just wanted to put the same TV in every room like they've done on previous ships. There are only so many places to put it in the interior rooms, so it ended up in a suboptimal location.I always assume any company doing billion dollar engineering projects has done research and tries to think things through, but they got me on this one. It’s just so bizarre to have a TV there I don’t know what possible advantage there could be for anyone in that room.
Whatever the reason was, you’ll have a hard time convincing me it was because they thought guests would like it.
My daughter would always watch Disney movies while we were getting ready or just resting in the afternoon on the balcony. Some nights she watched a movie when she was tired. So yes, we did use the Tv. It’s not like we were glued to it 10 hours a day, but part of the fun of the cruise was watching Disney movies in the cabin 2-3 times a sailingDo a lot of people spend thousands of dollars to go on a cruise just to spend time in their cabin - watching TV?
By definition, "unique" cruises cannot add up to 100 sailings. Basic math. The short cruises are mostly first time cruisers. The more unique cruises are when most of the ship is platinum. Sorry to blow up your theory.
They don't pay thousands of dollars to go watch TV, just like they don't spend thousands to read a book, or sit in a coffee shop, or eat ice cream, or sit by a pool. But people do all those things during their cruise, and a lot more they could technically do at home. We stay plenty active and do lots of cruise-ey stuff, but I like couple hours here and there when it's just me and my family hanging out in our private room, not in a public space. Maybe I'm crazy but I don't think I'm alone on that one.Do a lot of people spend thousands of dollars to go on a cruise just to spend time in their cabin - watching TV?
I sure didn't.Do a lot of people spend thousands of dollars to go on a cruise just to spend time in their cabin - watching TV?
I have to wonder if little cruisers were breaking the pivoting mounts on the 4 other ships and this was done to eliminate that problem. No facts, just speculation on my part.Nah. That particular design decision smacks of the design team asking for pivoting mounts and the budget managers saying "no." I have to believe it was not the designers CHOICE to have fixed mounted TVs.
@AquaDame mentioned it briefly and included a picture or two. Must not have been very exciting…No one has mentioned the Hyperspace Lounge, even though it was one of the most talked about features and booked solid. Did anyone go?
You made a remark about how many of them have been to ten countries. What did you mean by that?By definition, "unique" cruises cannot add up to 100 sailings. Basic math.
First time logging on since we boarded the Wish - last day here...checking work emails and I have a couple of minutes before the last show.. haven't checked this whole thread, I will when we get back
I LOVE the ship.. it's beautiful but the Fantasy is still my favorite.
Quick pros and cons from me:
Pros: The food - It's amazing. Way better that other ships. Maybe bc most of the MDR food here is new (except for pirate night which is the same as other ships).. the pool deck food is a game changer. I love Donald's cantina. been eating there every day... bowls ala Chipotle (better than Chipotle imo), tacos, burritos and a variety of salsas. It's amazing.
BBQ place is good too... even the Pizza is not cardboard here and is half decent so that's a major upgrade.
The internet plan - Totally new configuration. No per GB anymore. You pay per the day, per type of speed and number of devices and it's unlimited... Though the speeds are not blazing fast, they're fast enough that you can easily download emails with attachments, watch youtube, etc... I've been using my Apple Music online without a hitch all voyage. We chose internet for the whole voyage for 3 devices and it's another game changer.
Huge kudos to DCL here - I Wonder if this new setup will eventually be in place in the other ships. I Wish it will.
The service - No surprises. DCL service here is top notch - All CMs are incredible. Don't have a single complaint
1923 - What an incredibly well designed place. It's stunning and now my favorite restaurant in all the ships.
Deck 14 - Kinda like the unofficial smoking area (a corner of it is devoted for that purpose) but the views and seating config are incredible. Will post pictures later.
CONS:
- Things are confusing with no mid ship elevators. And the ship is like a maze. A lot of stairs to get to the upper decks (good exercise tho)
- Pools too small, adult pool is always a people soup, impossible to get in
- Cove area always full as well...lounges gone by 8 am with towels or flip flops on them for 'saving'
- Gym/treadmills always full
- Others that I will add on later.... AND.... last, but not least... the most horrible CON:
There. is. no. walking/running. track. None. It's non-existent.
There is a pretend one but it's not a continuous loop.. in fact, it's an obstacle course. You cannot even walk half the ship without encountering a blocked gate or stairs or blocked stairs or both. It's a non-track.
This is a MAJOR flop by DCL. This is an unwalkable track. In fact, after I tried walking on it a couple of times by climbing the stairs, going back as soon as I hit every gate, I just gave up and said, well, no walking for me on this cruise...will have to use the stairs as much as possible instead.
I have a theory that DCL did it on purpose.- they don't want ppl walking on deck 4 and approaching the anchor room or the doors in aft/fwd that CMs use.
The couple of times I walked it for a bit I didn't see anybody else - and when I went to read on deck 4, there wasn't a single soul running or walking - whereas in other ships you always see ppl walking or running almost at all times.
I feel bad for those with mobility issues or that are not as fit to walk up the stairs.. because the area is designed for people to NOT be there.
So.. even though I really liked the Wish and I *may* sail her again because of the food - the missing track is a major issue to me - I will continue sailing in my favorite ship, the Fantasy.
Here is a pic of what is supposed to be the "track" on deck 4 - I will post more later.
Cheers.

It'll be a while before the numbers go down. The Wish is a new ship and it's summer cruising season. Things will probably look a bit better in the fall and even better by next fall. Thanks for the report! Can’t wait for the food! Thankfully we have no interest in a walking / running track, but the gym is something I’d like to hit up. But have no interest in an overcrowded gym.
I wonder if the crowds will disperse differently on future sailing. From what I’ve read, the MV has minimal children on board compared to a typical DCL sailing. I suppose we’ll get our first views from a “normal cruise” after the DVC sailing.
Got to agree with this one. That restaurant is beautiful. So much to see in there! For those who haven't sailed yet, 1923 is actually two separate restaurants; Walt and Roy. Which one you are in depends on some unknown. We've been in the Walt half.1923 - What an incredibly well designed place. It's stunning and now my favorite restaurant in all the ships.
And just to add: up until Disney+ came out, the cruise ships were one of the best places to watch on-demand Disney movies. That was how my daughter got to see some of the less-well-known Disney movies, years ago. Now, though, Disney+ makes the on-board TV look pitiful. My daughter would always watch Disney movies while we were getting ready or just resting in the afternoon on the balcony. Some nights she watched a movie when she was tired. So yes, we did use the Tv. It’s not like we were glued to it 10 hours a day, but part of the fun of the cruise was watching Disney movies in the cabin 2-3 times a sailing
Yes on both Fantasy & DreamQuestion for current cruisers: Has anyone been successful using their platinum Palo credit for brunch and not just dinner? Thanks!
