Disney Wine Costs vs Carry-On Costs Spreadsheet

I was looking over Barb's site and realized not only does the wine list repeat the Chardonnay's, but is for Triton's.

Does the wine list change that much between the Magic and the Wonder? Does anyone know where else I can get wine lists? For that matter, I would like to get a copy of the reserve list. Any thoughts?

Wow- great spreadsheet! Thank you for all of you hard work!

I noticed the repetition of the Chardonnay section a few days ago, and I sent Barb an email about it - they're looking into it. I don't think there's a big difference between the wine list at Triton's vs. Lumiere's, but it's certainly possible that there would be some variation. I think Barb/Tony's site is the only place I've found the wine list, other than the few wines listed inside the regular menu.

As for the reserve list, I don't think I've ever seen it online. Perhaps an upcoming cruiser could persuade their server to either give them a copy to take home, or at least to photocopy at Guest Services. I would be happy to do it (as well as get a copy of the regular wine list for the Magic), if you're willing to wait until September. ;)

Calvin! What a fantastic job for all of us wine lovers! You put so much work into this and it is appreciated more than you know!
Thanks so much!

Wow! Thanks for sharing the spreadsheet.
I have a question - I like to have about 2 glasses of wine with dinner and my husband does not have wine with dinner so I assume the wine package will not work for me because I doubt I will drink 7 bottles in 7days. Should I buy my wine for dinner by the bottle or glass?

You purchase 7 bottles of wine, you can choose however you want to drink them. If you want something from the reserve list instead, you can have them apply a credit from the wine package to that purchase. If you have not used all the bottles from your package, you may order the remaining bottles on the last night of the cruise to take home with you unopened.

All-

I'll update the spreadsheet next chance I get with the information from zellda.

Over the weekend, I updated the spreadsheet using a cached copy of the wine list from Barb's site. This wine list has the reds where the 2nd Chardonnay listing is currently found. I also found a few more prices on ABC's site with prices.

I will try to snag a complete wine list during our upcoming cruise and update the spreadsheet with this info.

zellda-

Thanks for the info.

Last time I purchased by the glass and felt it was not a good value. I feel the cost of wine by the glass should be a slightly more than the total cost of the bottle. This allows for the extra hassle of having an extra open bottle. But the Disney's cost by the glass is at quite a premium versus the bottle cost.

Given that they will store the wine for you if you purchase by the bottle, I'll probably purchase two (or perhaps three) bottles this next cruise. One red and one white. Then mix and match as we dine throughout the cruise.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

I did a bit of browsing on the ABC Liquor Website. So, Disney says that by buying the wine pkg, you save approx 25% over just purchasing it by the single bottle. We drink red wines and were looking at the premium pkg. With the premium pkg you pay $38.00/bottle ($265./7). Looking at the selection, the prices for the premium reds ranged from $12.99 to $19.99 per bottle at ABC. It's hard for me to see where the savings are:
Fairy Tale Cuvee on the reg. wine list: $39. vs. $38. on prem pkg
Greg Norman Shiraz on reg list: $35. vs. $38. on prem pkg
Antinori Chianti Classico on reg list: $40. vs. $38. on prem. pkg.
King Estate Pinot Noir not on reg wine list.
Kendall Jackson Vinterners Reserve not on reg wine list.
Robert Mondavi Cab not on reg wine list.

I used the 11/03 wine list on Barb's site. Perhaps the regular wine list prices have increased since then?

I don't see where the 25% savings are by buying the pkg. Am I missing something? Any insight would be appreciated - we're sailing this Sat.

Excellent observation Jules1!

I will incorporate the cost savings of single Disney bottle price vs package price per bottle in the spreadsheet.

The cost savings is, er, um, 25% more Disney in each wine bottle?

25% more pixie dust?

Hmmm... Have to think on that one.

With regard to the prices at ABC, you have to factor in 7% sales tax on top if their cost and then the $17.25 corkage fee charged by Disney. Of course, if the bottle is for consumption in your cabin, corkage fee doesn't come into play.

As a note, Jules1, we'll be sailing this Saturday as well.

I've updated the spreadsheet based upon wine package information received from zellda. I've also compared the cost savings of the Disney Wine Packages vs Disney Single Bottle Costs, based upon an idea from Jules1.

I've also removed the column for ABC tax. The tax is still part of the "ABC Total Cost" calculation, but I no longer show it as a separate column.

I've also color coded the wines that are part of the classic wine package (chardonnay-type color) and premium wine package (very light purple).

I've also folded the "classic vs abc" and "premium vs abc" columns. I simply change the formula when comparing the package cost to abc cost. This removed 2 additional columns from the spreadsheet, thus making it easier to read.

Changed the column header from "XXX vs ABC Delta" to "ABC Cost Savings over Disney". Thus if the number is positive, it is a cost savings. If the number is negative, the cost savings accrue to Disney. A bit more understandable.

Also, I've changed the column header when comparing costs from "Single Bottle Better Value" to "Single Bottle Lower Cost". Ditto for the package headers. Sometimes a higher cost might be a better value for someone.

Glad everyone is deriving value from the spreadsheet. I hope to snag more wine lists when I go on my cruise for a complete picture.

Could someone please tell me how much the beer mugs are and how much for refills. Do you know how much they hold and how much it is just to buy beer not in a refillable mug. Which way is cheaper?

Please note: If you are travelling with other families you can split a wine package. Your waiter will divide the cost and charge each room their portion. We have done this twice.

thank you for the spread sheet TDC Calvin! My DS 22 and I are just learning about wines and this info will help us decide wheather to purchase the premium package from Disney or just bring our own.
Also we have a winery in our home town and I was wondering if I am allowed to bring a few bottles of this award wining wine as a gift for the Captian? We will be on the 7 day Western Magic Sept. 25,2004 ::yes::
