Disney will find a way to make a Marvel 5th gate

There is no way that after the biggest box office haul in history that Disney isn't fighting every day to find a way to pull this off, and in Orlando....that’s the only place to do it right, and get the bang for the buck. This is really just the tip of the iceberg with this immense catalog of characters and stories. This isn’t superficial stuff here these characters have very deep and complex stories that have been cultivated over half a century or more in some cases. This isn’t like adding the transformers, and as big as Harry Potter is, and I am a Harry fan, that story ended with book 7, period. These characters live and breathe and grow every month, they are in constant use, and are icons. This will happen...it only makes sense.

Listen...those box office figures might look great on the surface...but these popcorn movies that come out every month don't represent "themepark potential"

Don't get all geeked up (pun intended)...they took a couPle of decent movies and slapped the characters to make money...good job...good for Disney

But you'd have to make ...literally....a dozen of these guys at no cost to scratch a dent in the themepark construction costs

The movie is a diversion...not a development plan...enjoy it as that

Not seeing this at all. Perhaps a few attractions in one of the existing parks. Just can't believe there is enough interest to support an entirely new park with the associated infrastructure.

Why can't we just have a good movie be a good movie? I absolutely loved The Avengers, I think it's one of the best films I've seen (biased because I'm a Marvel geek though). That said, I really don't want it entering the theme park plateau because it just clutters it all, and has no true place in a Disney park. Six Flags is big on incorporating all of that in their parks, and their parks suck (imho, they suck). I say let it be a grand success, it deserves it, but it has no place in Disney theme parks. So, let's just stop this now... before the devil's advocates come...

Well, I respectfully disagree. I think this is something that not only they are looking at, but should seriously consider, and fairly quickly.

The little land that was very poorly done in IOA has been very big for UNI. And it’s nowhere near the quality that either UNI or Disney is capable of right now.

Let’s not forget the amount of land and money that Disney is pumping into Avatar over at AK. You can’t tell me that Disney thinks Avatar is anywhere as rich a story and entertainment pool as Marvel. Yet Avatar is getting what is basically equal to its own park.....????

If Avatar can carry something that big, (which I'm not sure it can, but they do) then you have to believe Marvel can.

If done right this is their big thrill park....this is a Villain park....This can be used not just for thrills but educational purposes too. Many of these characters lend themselves to different types of awareness and educational opportunities.

There is way more here than, Avatar, Transformers, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings (UNI rumor).

All I'm saying is they must have someone on this right now....trying to find out the feasibility and how to make it work ASAP.

I'm not saying there are dozers on way. Just that they have to be very very seriously attacking it as a top option.

I could be horribly wrong.....but if I was a betting man,,,, Marvel is your best bet at a 5th gate over anything else.

i do think the heros and villians park is a cool idea but i just dont see it happening yet..... i wuld love to see a themed land after the characters

While I'd love to see this happen I don't think it will. I am sure Disney is looking for ways to capitalize on their Marvel purchase as well as the run away success of the Avengers but I can't see another park (in any shape or form) in the immediate future. They already have enough gaps/issues in the existing parks to dump billions into a Marvel only park. Hopefully they do see the value here and make a play for shaping the future of Hollywood Studios or DCA, for example.

Wishful thinking my friend. Nothing more. If they really wanted to add marvel to the parks they missed there chance. Ant Man, Wasp, and Black Panther attractions would be much better than Avatarland.

that's an important point that needs to be point out...again...

Marvel was bought simply to collect royalties...not to put a mouse stamp on spiderman's tights...

It's enough that they saw that the comic book genre can be used more effectively and more profitably with CGI in the movies and web presence...so they went after it.

It was a good move...especially on a day like today. Disney needed this to offset the john carter ridiculous scenario (gone in memory...but not in the wallet). It is a good day for disney.

but they will never run IOA or Six Flags Magic Mountain...and that is what is being advocated here...
In order to do "superhero" park...it has to be about speed, height, and steel. That's what comic book gee...i mean..."fans" want.

I love a ride on Batman at GA or The Hulk...and i would love it if disney wants to put me on one...i'd be there. But its not in their best interests.

Now...lord of the rings...perhaps avatar....something that can be "fleshed out" and be "immersive" on multiple levels beyond the ride...that is something they can move into. We see it with harry potter...though that doesn't have the staying power that the fanboys are predicting.
Star wars was prime for this...but ironically only george lucas can go toe to toe with disney greed....so nothing was ever done.

But not Xmen and Spiderman...those that it will draw will want inversions...and disney is well advised to only use things like that sparingly.

And i can't say this more delicately....marvel is for "fans"...i like it just fine...but its for a specific demographic that - from a reality standpoint - is a small percentage of the population. not to say that it wouldn't translate into something good for a disney park - but that's not what they want. They want mainstream stuff with the ability to push volume in merchandise.

Second: Somebody do the accounting for me on this... to build another theme park in florida and to do it somewhat correctly is going to run a tab of roughly 3.5 BILLION dollars if they break ground right now (AK was probably 2.5 all said and done 15 years ago...so realistically speaking...it probably well over 4 to do it anywhere close to correctly...which hasn't been done and paid for by TWDC since EuroDisney)

that's a lot of comic books and overpriced movie tickets to be sold...and each blogger that shows up the first weekend will have to walk out with roughly $15,500 worth of Thor merchandise in hand for the accountants..i mean..."board"...to not pull the plug the next monday morning.

It does those kinds of people who love thrill rides would have a place where their kids can have fun but at the same time they can still get a thrill out of it.

I know it will never happen because of the 2 reasons that are known by everyone (including yourself) but it's not because of money. The money would catch up eventually.

Oh and was that date for the release of The Dark Knight Rises? If so I couldn't agree with you more that movie might set records that won't be broken for a few years!!

They are making a lot of money off Spidey and it was a 1 time purchase. US/IOA gives royalties to Disney. So Disney doesn't need to build or maintain anything which would increase the cost to them. They are just fine with that.

On the Money issue, Reccesion + Horribly maintained and 2 of the parks lackluster in attractions = not gonna happen

Disney bought Marvel for two reasons and two reasons alone the movies make money and besides POTC they had nothing to offer males 10 and over.

1. You will never see a Marvel park in Florida.

2. They may build one over seas or even as a third gate in DL but not in WDW.

3. And the most important point is a 5th gate would not help WDW but hurt it. They can't keep the 4 parks they have up to Disney standards. Look at the state Test Track was in that Soarin is in for proof.

4. When would it happen? They ate spending almost 1.5 billon on MK and then a lot on Avatarland! Also next year another major attraction in MK is getting a major over haul. So let's just round and say when all us done over the next 5 years they will have spent close to 2 billion dollars on WDW.

That remains to be seen. While Dark Knight Rises has been predicted to be this summer's blockbuster, it may have a big hill to climb after what Avengers just did. Either moviegoers are going to be primed and we'll see a repeat of what just happened, or they'll stay away for fear of the darkness that's being portrayed so far in the advertising. Avengers was fun and really enjoyable, but so far DKR just looks like a dark, scary repeat of Dark Knight. I'm still planning to see it, but I really think Avengers set the bar pretty high and DKR is going to fall just short of reaching it.
