Ladies-

For those of you who had a Disney Wedding and an At-Home reception, how did your bridesmaids handle the shower invitiations?

I am having a custom wedding in disney and we are inviting about 110. My mom is throwing us an at-home reception and planning on inviting about 100 of my family members (most of which were not invited to the Disney Wedding). So, my sister (bridesmaid) and my MOH are planning my shower and my mom chimed in that she wanted to invite everyone who is invited to the at-home reception to the shower. I am not sure this is correct though...I kind of feel like I am saying you are good enough to give me gifts, but not good enough to invite to Disney. That being said, these are relatives that I really don't know, so I am pretty sure they wouldn't bother coming to Disney anyway. So what are your thoughts out there?

My original idea was to keep the shower small and just invite all the female guests to the shower (girl children too). It would mean that we would invite about 40 and only about 20 would probably show (most would be from out of town).

Thanks!
Tara

We're just having immediate family at our DFTW.
All together there is 17 of us.
Our at home reception is going to have over 200 people.

Everyone invited to the at home reception is invited to the shower (women/kids that is).

We spread the word as soon as we decided on DFTW that is was going to be a small, immediate family type thing, so no surprises for everyone later on down the road.

It's their choice to attend, I'd just rather invite them then have someone get upset later they were left out.
Recently happened with the last family wedding, and there were a lot of angry people.

Tara:
i say if your mom wants to throw you a shower. let her invite family not going to WDW.

Those family members do have the choice to say "no".

id let them decide & just go with it & have fun either way.

Destination weddings are all the rage nowadays, so its not uncommon at all what you are doing

If your worried about someone asking you why they werent invited, just practice a response ahead of time & pow wow with your DF & mom so you are all on the same page.

GL & congrats:goodvibes

Thanks...I guess the only problem I have is we are invite a large number of family, but not all of them. I guess I could say that we had to limit due money and reception location, so we decided to make the cut at first cousins and kids. I suppose I should just let them worry about it and go from there.

Thanks,
Tara

I would suggest sending out announcements--maybe with a small blurb on how your having a more intimate ceremony in Disney, and will have the big celebration once you return. Personally, I wouldn't want to bring people to my shower that wouldn't be coming to the 'real' wedding. Although I (and you too I imagine) aren't looking for gifts, however, it may come off otherwise.
Hopefully I don't offend anyone. This is just my own feelings.

We were just having the same discussion this week with my DF's grandmother. She was concerned about what she could do for a shower on her side. We are only having 60 people at our DFTW, but are having over 300at our at-home reception. It's good to hear all the different points of views on this topic.
