Disney vs Resale

I believe I finally convinced my husband in purchasing DVC.  He's not a Disney nut like I am but still enjoys going every couple of years. I've been telling him that there's more to Disney than just the parks, I think I finally convinced him that it would be a great winter get away every year. So I need to move forward before he changes his mind.

With that said, I'm interested in purchasing at BCV or at the VWL, I realize these are sold out resorts, but would there be an advantage to purchasing through Disney vs purchasing through a resale broker?

I realize through Disney, I would probably be placed on the waitlist for purchasing into one of these resorts. How long does it usually take to receive the pt package once being placed on the waitlist?

Plus, how much are the pts if purchased through Disney and what would the closing cost be for a package of 150pts.

Thanks.

To buy from Disney at a sold out resort depends entirely on how long the waitlist is, and how often Disney gets back points that they can sell. They get them back through ROFR for contracts being listed, and probably some where the purchasers default on their loans.

No one can tell you how long it will take because there is no way to know for certain how fast points will come in.

As for costs, I'm not certain, but I don't think any of the incentives apply, so you're probably over $100/point. Someone else may have better information.

If you decide to go resale, be sure to examine the contracts as there can be a large degree of 'value' between any two contracts. Things like banked points, or borrowed points, make up the biggest difference in a resale contract's 'value'.

Purchase of resorts other than SSR thru DVC is possible. There is a price range depending on the resort - the upper range is $95 (for BCV and VWL), but VB, HH and possibly OKW may be a little lower. Closing costs will also depend on the size of the contract, but some have reported $200 in closing costs for first purchases thru DVC directly.

Some Use Years at some of the resorts may be immediately available in the sales inventory, but that can change from day-to-day and some resorts may have a waitlist. Your DVC guide will be able to advise you what is available currently.

Resale purchase can certainly find more affordable opportunities and is worth investigating for comparison.

Be sure to look at all options before making your decision. :)

I just purchased a 50 pt contract thru Disney @ $95 per pt. and no closing cost.

I was on the wait list about four months.

Good luck

I purchased last week after being on the BWV waitlist for one day. I bought a 250 point package at $95 per point. It was more than the resale market but I had two offers refused on the resale market at 85 a point. Going through disney I was able to book two trips the same day as my deposit.
No closing cost on my BWV from disney.

We just did a 25 point add on VWL through Disney. Interestingly, there was a sheet to sign regarding closing costs/financing. I called Disney and it's just something to sign, didn't add to our purchase price. The 25 points were not financed, so I wondered why this sheet was in the packet. However, for the 25 points, the cost given was around $95. I've already mailed the packet, so I don't have the exact amount with me.

Thanks to everyone. This seems hopeful that I'll be able to purchase one of the sold out resorts through Disney.

I'm going to call DVC and have my name placed on the waitlist this afternoon.
I hope that it won't be a long wait in order to receive the package I'm looking for, 1st choice - 150pts at BCV, or 2nd choice - 150pts at VWL.

if you want to close fast your best bet is to purchase a resale thru the timeshare store. call jason at the phone # listed on this dishboard site. tell him what you want and more than likely he will find it soon. it is really up to chance that what you want will turn up. mine did. and for less than you think. i did have to pay closing cost. but i got what i wanted in short time.
i bought 150 pts. at bwv.

if you go thru disney you may or may not have to wait longer but i think they pay closing costs. if all things were considered (money wise) the total cost might end up being about the same. but my purchase went thru (with closing) in less than a month

check the resales to buy at this website. this is the timeshare store site. they may already have what you want. if you want to use it soon, be sure to check the #of points available right now. i was very pleased with the timeshare store. :yay:

Keep in mind that you have to be really really firm, and tell them that they won't be getting any money at all unless you're put on a waitlist. I've heard that some guides won't sell "sold-out" resorts at all, on the other hand, we bought a "sold-out" resort very easily.
