Disney vs. RCCL

I swear RCCL owes ME a muffin basket :lmao:

Congrats on your booking! You should have gone with me on 1/16 :)

I will *try* to answer these question, since you will be on Oasis it will be a whole new ballgame. ;)

--Lounges - they are suppose to have lounges and outdoor music in Central Park - so the kids could sit out there with you if you choose to do that.

--I can't imagine that you will need your oldest as a babysitter at night, even one night. I CANNOT pry, beg or bribe my kids out of Adventure Ocean. There is just too much going on. If they run Adventure Ocean at all on Oasis like they do on the other ships, forget it...you won't see the kids. They have their own circus, parades, pirate parties, etc.

--I have never been to Chops (it's a steakhouse and I prefer Italian) but I have been to Portofino...it is very comparable to Palo's. On Oasis, Portofino will be called "Anthony's Table" and they are adding another specialty restaurant called "150 Central Park"

--Waterslides on Oasis - MAYBE. I was just reading their press release and it says "Families looking for fun in the sun will easily spot Royal Caribbean’s signature H2O Zone, marked by a giant octopus with its slides and water-spraying tentacles and surrounded by fellow water-spouting ocean creatures."

Now I have to go post on the RCCL board and see if anyone else noticed that.

They have TWO flowriders. "The first Beach Pool at sea will have a sloped entry where guests will be able to wade into the water or relax in colorful beach chairs under an umbrella as the water rolls gently beneath." The main sports pool. The adult only solarium (with cabanas)

Oasis will also have the zipline, carousel (boardwalk with kids shops), aqua theatre and REAL grass.

Another little secret - if you book a balcony (D1) look for the "Hump Balconies" - they are the cabins where the ship bows out in the deck plans. The balconies are suppose to be larger there.

I am on Deck 14 - Hump Balcony (can you imagine DECK 14? I am going to be sooo high up)

Seriously, you deserve more than a muffin basket!

We are on deck 7 in a D4 stateroom. In looking at the deck plan we do not see a D1 with a sleeper sofa. We want to have DH, myself and DD8 in our balcony room and our boys 13 and 15 will be in the inside stateroom. Of course I have only looked at deck 7. I will look into this more, it would be nice to have a larger balcony.

We have to keep in touch as I cannot wait to hear your report about the Oasis since you sail before us! Did you see the video about the bar that moves up and down between decks?! :cool1:

I also think the partially covered adult solarium sounds heavenly. The one day I had at the adult pool on the Magic I was freezing due to the winds. It will be awesome to have a place out of the wind but still in the sunshine!

Does anyone know if RCI is having their reduced deposit sale?

I think I am going to book the Oasis for Presidents week 2010

They are advertising some kind of sale on 10/22 and 10/23, the info says it's for Oasis but when you click on it they talk about other ships...don't know if they will add the Oasis details on those dates
http://www.americanexpresscruise.co...jsp?cobrand=15558&pid=15558&webpagerecno=2169

Have you checked Presidents week? It's about $400 more pp (1st and 2nd person) than I am spending for Jan 2010. But there is availability. :)

Yep there are definatly D1s with sleeper sofas. I just put a mock reservation in for your date (2/6), and I listed 4 people in my cabin - they gave me 4 different open D1 cabins on Deck 6 (6196, 6594, 6598, 6200) and one D1 on Deck 8 (8598) that's still open.

The sofa cabins have a triangle listed next to the number.

I know we always have to pay more. DD will be a HS honors student, missing school for vacation they don't wait for you to catch up, you're on your own, they are tough in my district. Hmmm...I'll check out other prices though.
When is Oasis ging to be ready to sail?

What are you paying for 3rd person?

Yeah then that is different. My kids are young so I have no problems (at this point) with getting them out.

Oasis inaugural is 12/12/09 - BUT that sailing and the 2 following that are REALLY up there in price. The inaugural is thousands more. The next 2 sailings are holiday sailings, so they are expensive.

Then the prices lowers in Jan and Feb. The lower prices being in Jan.

Of course, they go back down for Sept/Oct 2010. And are more expensive during the Summer.

Just checked - cruise fare for 3rd and 4th was $749.00 for me.

The first and 2nd is now $1,479 for January (D1 Balcony). I paid less than that cause I got it as soon as C&A bookings opened.

Some of the other balcony categories are cheaper...at times, the Boardwalk or Central Park balconies are less (they face the inside of the ship overlooking Central Park and Boardwalk)

OK Just checked the prices for the 2/13/10 and the 1/23/10 sailings and they are sold out of every cabin except ONE suite cabin :scared1:

I was checking out MLK birthday week she would only miss 4 days vs 5

OK, unless there was a sudden rush to buy Oasis...lol...you need to click on the "tabs" at the top.

I checked that date for you not more than 30 minutes ago and there was alot of availability. Checking again....

OK, I don't know where you looked ;) but on www.rccl.com here are the results for 4 people in a cabin on Oasis on 2/13/10

For suites - there are 4 different kinds with availbility

For balconies there are B1 (boardwalk), C1 (central park), D1, D2, D3 and D4 (ocean Views) - all open

For windows - there are oceanviews and boardwalk views - all open

Insides - Promenade insides and even some interiors - available

Pretty much you can have your choice of categories - just not decks.

My friends booked on Oasis of the Seas and are trying to get me to book on it. I told them no, not unless they are paying for me, and they said I was nuts:lmao:

OK I'll check again, and yes I was on RCCL site

One quick hint about the Flowrider.......
We always checked the "compass" (RCCL's version of a Navigator). We were there when it opened every time.......and had lots of "turns" before the lines got too out of hand. By 11:00am.....I had all the fun on the flowrider, so I could sit on the benches and enjoy watching others.......

If you wait until 2 or 3 in the afternoon......yes....the lines can get long......but it is STILL LOADS of fun!

Me, on the flowrider!!!!!

Yep, I didn't see the tabs on the top...gee funny how they give you the suite prices first then everything else seems like a bargain.

Yeah really! That is part of their new web site...I don't like it. But they didn't ask my opinion...lol. :rolleyes1

Yeah you click on it and it says $17,000 for a Crown Loft Suite...after the initial shock, you realize you can click on the other tabs and be taken to much more managable prices. :)

Hi, I've never been on RCI so I'm finding it overwhelming to select a stateroom. I'm looking at the Oasis. There are 5 of us (2A, 3C). I know I want a balcony and a travel agent gave me a quote for 2 connecting D4's on deck 8. The total was about $6693. As an alternative, 1 family balcony room was $6362. I think I'd rather have the 2 connecting rooms for more space, more privacy, and 2 bathrooms.

My questions are: is deck 8 a good place to be? It looks like there are a lot of public areas. Will that be noisy? Would it be better to go up to deck 9 or 11? Does the higher deck mean a higher price?

Has anyone been in a junior suite? I think I'm going to ask for a quote on 2 connectings. They're about 100 square feet bigger. I wondered how these compare to the D4.

Finally, what's the difference between a D1 and a D4. They are same square footage, so what is the difference?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

The Oasis is not even out yet so no one will be able to tell you if the room you selected is quiet etc...But go to www.cruisecritic.com and I'm sure you will find all things Oasis discussed.

We have a western booked on Magic next september that we're keeping. after much discussion we decided that we wanted to at least cruise on both ships before we tried another line. we've done 2 Wonder's.

Then i think we'll try a suite with on RCCL's Liberty. I've cruised RCCL and Carnival before and remember RCCL's food to be better than DCL or Carnival. We hope after the girls are out of school to get to Alaska but probably on Princess not HAL.
