Do you go to a higher tier hotel at Disney then if you go to another place like Paris?

We haven't been to Paris. But we have spent more to stay at hotels in San Francisco CA ,
Coronado, CA, Huntington Beach, CA & Las Vegas. But we stay moderate at Disney (POFQ ). We base every trip on what matters the most at that location. We are very happy at WDW staying at POFQ ( 2nd choice would be POR ).

Totally agree that it's based on the amenities and proximity. At Disney I'm paying to be close to the parks and have the extra space of CL. For ski trips, it's ski-in/ski-out and enough space for all our gear, living space and a kitchen. San Francisco and NYC, it's close to activities.

smh No I am just wondering what hotel you are comparing Disney too? I am taking some time off to do trip planning

No particular one. Pretty much any historic (or for that matter, modern) five star hotel is more bang for your buck than Disney hotels. Theming is pretty much the only reason I'd stay in a Disney hotel. Disney hotels have proximity. Otherwise, it's an artificial environment of competition. In a city, hotels have a lot more competition.

I find Disney hotels and food middle range. They're never the worst but they're never the best. They have that corporate mass production feel.

Mmmmm....Do I spend more at Disney and stay at same class hotels outside of Disney? The overall cost at Disney always seems more than if I decided on an alternative. I go to New York City probably more often than I go to Disney and stay at the same class level hotels as at Disney. In NYC, depending on time of year, I can get a better deal than I could ever get at Disney. However, I do tend to go to Disney only at times when I feel I can get a good discount and the same applies to anywhere else I travel. I pay the extra at Disney because of the theming, not necessarily because their rooms are better quality than at hotels outside--in fact, I am certain that the actual quality of a hotel room outside of Disney at the same price point would be far better--just my opinion of course. If you are thinking of going to Paris and are used to paying Disney deluxe prices, then you shouldn't have a problem in the City of Lights or any other major city in the world--except perhaps Tokyo (I'm thinking more size of room for price, then actual price). I'm always surprised at how much I'm willing to shell out for the lodging portion of my trip to Disney than I am outside. However, one thing a lot of people need should always keep in mind is that the hotel price at Disney does include all--no resort fees or parking fees added--I guess that's already included in their prices:tilt:! So people should just make sure they are comparing apples to apples when judging alternatives. This happens a lot for me when I'm headed to Orlando. I particularly love the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress--right next to Disney Springs entrance to Disney. It's a great hotel, but I always have to make sure when I see a good rate there, that I have to include the resort fee and parking--and, of course, taxes on both of those. Okay, enough rambling on--but this is one of my favorite topics of discussion--getting the best deal at a hotel! Thanks for asking!!

I'm paying the same or a higher nightly rate for Yacht Club this November than I've paid at the Hotel Del in Coronado, CA and the Ritz at Lake Oconee in GA. And the Yacht Club is nice but nowhere near as nice (I mean, not even close) as the room I had at the Ritz in GA.

I wrote on Facebook that Disney Deluxe hotels charge the same as luxury hotels. My point is luxury does not cheap and comparing a deluxe hotel to a budget hotel in a city is silly. Because a hotel is in the centre of the city does not make it high end.

I don't think deluxe Disney hotels are luxury five star hotels. The amenities and service are not on par. Who has been comparing the deluxes to budget city hotels?

I agree with the poster above about Disney including parking but that's not an amenity I usually care about. Is it valet at the deluxe hotels?

Now deluxes could be less expensive or the same price compared to a city hotel in high season. But city high season is a lot less time than Disney high season. And you're still getting more for your money at the city hotel, so I still don't think that makes the deluxe have the same value.

So what's the point of your thread? Did Facebook agree with your argument?

I always thought people on this board went to deluxe hotels here and went to moderate hotels elsewhere. Because they love Disney so much. I guess I am wrong. Nothing wrong with that presuming they had the money

I tend to stay bottom tier at WDW, a bit nicer on most other trips. I'm usually solo and feel that the Deluxe hotels at Disney are crazy over priced. We don't find Paris all that expensive, I can get an apartment in the Marais for less than $1000/week. Jackson Hole/Grand Teton National Park, OTOH.......

You are definitely right about Jackson Hole/GTNP. I wanted to see that and some of Colorado this summer, but actually going overseas was the cheaper option!:faint:

I live in New England, Disney hotels at the value and moderate category are cheaper than any of the hotels near me. I considered a night with my husband at the casino and I was looking at about 400/night for a Saturday - so to me Disney is quite reasonable.

When not at Disney we stay almost exclusively at Hilton brand hotels. Most of them I would compare to a mod level at Disney with some at the deluxe range. It's hard to compare because what I'm looking for in a Disney hotel differs.

For a Labor Day trip outside Boston I'm looking at $150 a night for a room which is what we generally pay for a mod with a discount. Some of the hotels have a kitchen, which you can't get for that amount at Disney, but I don't need a kitchen at Disney because my kids are able to eat at more restaurants than when we are traveling elsewhere.

Hampton Inn rooms in some areas I can still find at a little under $100 so value priced but they are much nicer than the value rooms IMO.

We can do Boston area activities cheaper with reciprocal membership benefits from our local zoos and museums, but if we spent a full week there, without those discounts, vs a full week at Disney the daily cost of activities would probably be pretty close.

What casino? The four seasons in boston is about 499

This really is a sort of apples to oranges kind of question. When traveling to a major metropolitan city, to be close to the action, in a hotel (not apartment or flat), is terribly expensive. I stay by budget and not by tier. If I'm staying close to Times Square in New York, I think we spent about a $100 a night for a smaller room with double beds instead of queen. We haven't been to Paris since 2015 and the problem there was finding rooms that accommodate 5 people within Paris proper. Almost impossible unless we were willing to shell out the big bucks so we opted for an apartment. In Rome, we had an issue of finding a hotel with room for 4 that was close to major attractions. Again, we opted for a less desirable area and a flat instead of a hotel because there just wasn't one.

Just like huge cities that have areas outside of the main tourist attractions where hotels, apartments, homes are cheaper, there are areas off-property and many people love to stay in a house off-property for much, much less money.

We stay at Swan or Dolphin because we use SPG points. I think its similar in points as other SPG properties we've stayed at in other cities, but there is no option for club level.
