Hey guys! I recently got a Disney Visa card and I know there are benefits to having it. My only question is, are these benefits automatic or do you have to somehow activate them? Also, do you have to book your vacation using the Disney Visa in order to get discounts or are the discounts mostly in the form of gift cards that you can earn through your rewards on your Visa account? Thanks!

They sometimes will do 5x points (we haven't gotten them in a long time) you don't have to activate for the regular points. Now and then there are discounts, 10% at Disney Store when you spend $50 I think. A free 5 x 7 photo with the characters at Epcot. If you pay your Disney vacation with it you can defer payments. You transfer the points to a rewards card when you are ready to use them.

With the regular Disney Visa card, you earn 1% in points for each purchase. Anywhere. To redeem points you do need to transfer them to a Rewards Redemption Card -- similar to a gift card but not the same, one big difference is redemption cards have an expiration date. The Premier card earns 2% rewards for purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and Disney; and 1% on everything else. Points are redeemed the same way, except with the additional option of using points for airline tickets.

There are standard offers, such as 0% interest on vacation packages purchased through Disney Travel, shopping/dining discounts, the Character Spot picture from Epcot, etc. There are also occasional special offers such as broadway shows, pins, etc.

SOME offers from WDW (free dining, room-discount, etc.) are available to Disney Visa cardholders for maybe up to a week prior to releasing the same offer to the general public; but the advanced notice isn't always available.

And it has to be a package. We usually book room-only so we've never been able to take advantage of the deferred payments.
For the deferred interest, yes.

You can certainly use your card to just book a room-only discount.

Once you get a redemption card you can use that to purchase gift cards with no expiration/no value loss. I did that for the last few years and now I have enough to pay for our meals for our trip in July.
