Wanting to know peoples opinions on getting a Disney visa for a chance at special offers. Specically offers in December.

My wife and I each have out own card and we have gotten in the habit of using it for most things. We do take advantage of some of the discounts but we use it most for the rewards dollars. Between the two of us we pretty much eat on the rewards when we go to WDW. We even sometimes have some left to trinkets and doodads!

iIve had my disney visa for a few months now. i took the bait to get the $200 gift card since I have a trip planned for October. So far, I haven't received any special offers. I don't know if I should be expecting them via mail or email, but I haven't gotten anything yet, with the exception of accumulating additional points which I plan to use on my October trip. If you get the $200 gift card offer, that alone would make it worth getting the card. $200 extra dollars to spend on our trip is nothing to sneeze at!

We have had one for years now, and the special offers really have more to do with racking up points to use than any specific discounts.

For example, last week we got a flyer in the mail that told us we can get triple points through July for using the card at certain types of places (gas, groceries, etc.).

The main advantage is the points - you can use them anywhere on the Disney property, from paying for tickets and hotel rooms all the way down to Dole Whips and bottles of Coke at the vendors.

Shortly before you leave, you cash in your points and Visa mails you a card to use.

We saved up for quite a few years before our first trip and racked up around $1500 to use - it paid for our park tix and all of our spending money, including meals, for the whole trip.

We're going again this year (3rd year in a row) and have managed to put away about $400 or so.

Wonder what that says about our credit card habits... :lmao:

I've been a Disney visa holder since day one and to date the only promo I can think of that the general public wasn't offered shortly after was this sprints kids stay, play and dine free offer. The public offer was stay and play only I think (or dine, not play).

Don't get the card just if you are looking for promos, their track record so far has been to offer the promo to cardholders about 3-5 days before they open it up to the general public.

I've had a Disney Visa for 6 years and I agree with PP, promos for Disney hotels/packages are few and far between and are almost always offered to the public soon after. I use the Disney Visa for the reward dollars, we have saved a lot of money over the years with those reward dollars.

I agree, the promo's are not the greatest, but we have made out with reward dollars, last trip it paind for most our meals! This trip it may pay for tickets or
a nights stay. We just received the triple earnings benefit as well so hope to save even more!

Please don't think I am calling you a fibber as this is more of a question to learn about Disney Visa. You said you earned $1500, right? I thought you got $1 for every $100 you charged to the card. Am I right to assume $1500 (X) $100 = $150,000 you charged over the course of 3 (or so) years????

Asssuming this is correct, bravo to you if you did that....well....and you don't have crazy CC Debt.

Same here...we have it for the rewards.

But I remember some of the benefits that came with it in years passed like free stroller rental at DL(now charges 1/2 price) and best of all, free movie screenings of Disney films. The last one they offered was The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Got to see it the weekend before it opened. What was that, almost four years ago?

I miss that the most since we don't put much on our credit card, although we've saved up about $50 for this trip in July.

We were able to accumulate 614 rewards points in a year, so it's possible to get to 1500 in 3 yrs. No, we didn't charge over $60,000 in a year. We lucked out with lots of bonus points offers and put some large ticket home improvements on the cc. We had the cash saved up for the home improvements, but charged them just for the points. We charged everything we could and paid the balance each month. We didn't change our spending habits, just how we paid for things.

A couple weeks ago we got a thank you card from Disney VISA with 2 free tickets to Toy Story 3 at the theater of our choice good until July 9. I wasn't expecting anything like that, but it was a nice surprise. DH said it was the least they could considering how much money they've made off us throughout the years. :lmao:

We use our Disney Visa for almost everything and pay it off monthly. Often times on groceries and gas you can earn 5% instead of 1%, they pay it out every 3 months. Earning $1500 a year isn't all that hard if you use it for almost everything, the trick is making sure you pay it on line before the months end. Disney trips are intrest free for 6 months so sometimes we let it ride a month or 2 but not very often. If you are comfortable that you cold pay it off monthly I would say go for it, paying for our 2011 tickets and meals with it next year - over half way there now.

Don't forget the free photo at Epcot. It's only for Disney Visa card holders. I love the candid photo I got a few years ago of my daughter and me with goofy, donald and minnie. It's nearly impossible to get a picture with multiple characters any other way. At the price Disney charges for photos, this alone is worth the temporary ding to your credit report.

Oh, I almost forgot, you also get discounts on tours too.

What I like to do is make monthly payments because then you can get the 6 months interest free for each payment, which really lets you spread out the cost.

I too have had the Disney Visa since Day 1. We too charge everything we can and pay it off each month. I'm guessing we charge roughly $25,000 per year. That said, I don't recall ever getting something about earning triple points. Certainly have gotten anything recently as some of you have mentioned. I wonder if that's a random sort of thing? Or if I should call and ask about it? I know credit cards are changing what they offer, but I'm sure in the past I could have earned more money/points with another company, but I love having the points saved up just for Disney. And of course, I LOVE the card designs. Get lots of comments when I use it.

We also like the free shipping when ordering online from the Disney Store. We have also seen discounts to Broadway tickets of Lion King, Mary Poppins, etc. whichisgood if you live near NYC (we don't). Also don't forget the 6 months free financing on vacations to WDW that you book through Disney! :cool2:

I charge everything on my card and take advantage of the triple point offers and also pay it off monthly. On our past three trips I haven't had to pay a dime once we got to WDW. All of our food and souvenirs were covered with our reward dollars.

Love the rewards we get! We use our Visa for everything in between our trips- every other year. We use our rewards for all of our food and fun stuff we need to buy. Just cashed ours in for our trip next week and got about $1100. One year we cashed in twice and got two cards, so my DH and I both had one with us.

I believe the claims for mega rewards...it is entirely possible to rack up significant rewards $$$. We use our Disney visa for virtually everything we would normally pay cash for --gas, groceries, many restaurants/movies/entertainment throughout the year. And for BIG ticket items, like DD's college room & board. We do run thousands & thousands through that card every year...and we have enjoyed many an adult beverage "on the Mouse" in Disney World. Those $10 drinks are lovely when they're free, lol. If you can pay it off every month, it's a great way to get bonus $$$ for items you're buying anyway. :thumbsup2

just wanted to let everyone know about another option i havent seen discussed here. disney also offers a chase disney debit card!!! :goodvibes i just got it two weeks ago and have already earned $25 disney dollars with my first purchase!!

We also just got the Chase Disney Rewards debit card. Now, does it also get the offer of 3x or 2x points now and then, or is it strictly for the credit card? We use it for everything, so a special on points would be great. And yes, waiting for my first statement, but we should have received the $25 reward bonus after 5 qualifying purchases.
